Tempers flare: Sean Avery, Marek Malik fight in practice...
according to observers, including my NHL fantasy league co-owner, Sam Weinman, and others, it was a half-minute tussle that began with shoves.
Malik is frustrated from riding the pine and injuries; Avery unravelled against his former club, the Kings.
Great timing.
Now they're intense.
Figures.
What happened in the flat-line first period on Tuesday?
Let's see if the battle level carries over in the next three games...or this skirmish, rare for the Rangers, means little...The Senators and other teams have had dust-ups this season already.

Malik has balls in practice. Let's see it in a game. I can imagine the names Avery came up with for Malik. : )
was there a linesman between the two? avery only drops the gloves when he knows his opponent is restrained.
Hmmm...now see here this is something to get angry about as fans.
Why is this tool Malik still around the team?
This is one thing that can get me going at Sather.
His disrespect and lack of teamwork shown that night in Edmonton again when he snubbed Renney and now this?
Get him gone, shoot send him to Hartford already. Nobody will claim him. Send him down and bring him back up for someone to take at half price. Trade him!
DO SOMETHING HERE GLEN!
Fire sale this season = Stanley cup next season!
Great..... Malik can fight in practice, but during a game, hes as big of a p@ssy as Bossy.

You're a fool. Avery started the fight because Malik checked him into the boards and gave him an extra shot (which is something we'd all like to see). Read Delapina's blog. Avery started the fight. I'm glad Malik kicked his ass. Avery has been getting on my nerves lately. I'm glad someone gave him an ass whooping.
Fact of the matter is that Malik is not liked in the locker room. So had it not been Malik, no fight happens I'd put money on it. But, I hear what you are saying and can agree with your take. But, to me it is pretty obvious from the beginning of January up to now Malik is a problem on this team.
Who knows, maybe Avery just took one for the team and sparked something in a way.
I say good for Malik for standing up for himself. The guy's trying to win back a spot in the line up and is going all out in practice to try to prove he deserves it. So he hits Avery as part of a drill, and Avery, frustrated with his own less-than-stellar season -- and a particularly putrid showing last night -- takes exception and takes his frustration out on Malik. I'd be more upset with Malik if he HADN'T fought back.
If you ask me, you're all making way more out of this than there actually is. Stuff like this happens.
Laurie,
I agree with you it does happen.
But, usually not a good sign. Very possible and sounds like Avery was the d!ck here (no shock). All I am trying to say that there is a problem in the locker room with Malik. If that is the case something needs to be done to fix it. Many instances heard about this year all of the Malik factor in common. I am not attacking him as a player either. Just don't want to see the team divided thats not good.
What a bizarreO team
Zip - Please don't use words like"battle level." You sound like Renney, and he's a moron. Thanks.
according to thefourthperiod.com (i dunno how truthful but found it interseting) the leafs are trying to shop kaberle which would be awesome
Maybe this will wake Avery up. He's been playing like the 4th liner the Kings traded away last year. If he's going to justify the attention he gets, and the playing time he gets, he needs to pick up his game offensively.
I really thought Avery would be a Gravy type player. Get in front of the goalie and redirect shots in. I still think he can maybe put him on the power play like the way Graves did and stand there for the loose pucks. We all know there is nothing else to lose with the dreadful power play.
Tough game tomorrow with the World Champs. They better not sleep walk through the 1st 20 minutes. Or else it will be a long night.

oh, good, glad I am not the only one that noticed. Zipay's comments lately have become very bizarre, erratic and enigmatic. No wonder he is such a big Renney supporter
Malik is pathetic. If he wanted to show off his physical game he should have done it against other teams, and playing 184 games as a Ranger he never did, never seemed interested, never showed any intensity or emotion. Avery has every right to be pissed off at the big ugly for hitting him during practice.
It's time for malik to go, this isn't what the team needs and avery did what a bunch of other players wanted to do....but that said avery will never be an adam graves.
let's see Malik do that to his buddy Jagr in practice, then do it for real in a game. DOUBTFUL! I hope Avery shuns his hand shake so Malik can see how it feels. Let me know when Malik grows a set, at least Avery has them.
Maybe Avery needs to toughen up and drive to the net in games and not just in practice. "Big" guy does it in pracftice - how about (bleeping) doing it in games!
