Surgery for Mara; adding D-man probable

As predicted, the need for the Rangers to acquire a d-man or two by tomorrow's 3 p.m trade deadline has become more acute.

Paul Mara is undergoing surgery for broken facial bones today and is expected to be sidelined for two weeks.

Mara was hammered in a helmet-to-helmet hit by the Sabres' Pat Kaleta on Saturday in the first period and didn't return.

Mara, an unrestricted free agent in July, was acquired from Boston for Aaron Ward on last year's trade deadlne, Feb. 27. This appears to remove him from any deal tonight or tomorrow...

well now it looks almost imminent that the Rangers will make a deal for a defenseman. My preference is Boyle. We all saw how Campbell played against the Rangers as of late and i didn't see things i liked, but that is only my opinion.

Maybe its just me but I dont think Boyle at age 32 is worth 5-7 million per over 4-6 years, plus the prospects it would take to acquire him.

I always liked mara he plays on the third d pairing not the first like malik. hes got a good shot too. hes eye looks pretty messed up, i wish there was a way to hold off on the surgery until tues after 3 pm so the other teams cant use that against us poor job sather

It's only two weeks, they don't really need to make a deal.

where's the suspension?

Mike A,

The Rangers needed to an acquire a defenseman before Mara got hurt.

Remember? Montreal forwards whizzing around Malik, Strudwick and Mara like they were made of stone?

Hate to say but, I think Prucha is gonna get traded.

If I had to choose, I'd rather Prucha get traded over Dawes.
