Sather: Jagr staying
Although the Rangers have denied repeated requests from New York writers for a sitdown with general manager Glen Sather, he spoke with Edmonton reporters and said Jaromir Jagr would not be traded, and that he would like to resign both Jagr and Sean Avery.
Unfortunate situation.
Not for Jagr and Avery, but for Rangers fans, who pay top dollar for tickets and should hear from the team's boss more than every once in awhile.
Anyway, just arrived at the Garden. Maybe we'll have something from Glen before the end of the season.

how can he talk to edmonton media but not ny, gary bettman should make this mandatory that once a month during the reg season the gm speaks to the media. i have no problem resigning jags as long as its reasonable like 4 mil a yr.
This is ridiculous. Glen Sather should have been fired a looooooong time ago, like especially after he traded Leetch. This just goes to show he cares more about Canadian teams and fans than he does about the Rangers or their fans.
As long as the team is going reasonably well, that is, in the playoff hunt, I don't think Sather has any obligation to shoot the breeze about nothing, or answer every rumor that comes down the pike. He's doing the job, fielding a competitive team and developing players who are moving up from the farm..
Better to say nothing than to inadvertently trigger a controversy which can affect the team adversely.
That Jagr rumor has been kicking around all year starting with Eklund and fueled by the stupid comments of Milbury and even the Buffalo announcers were talking about Jagr not caring half the time. I think Sather in defending Jagr outside NY is doing the right thing.
Well, maybe now Steve and John Dellapina will finally discuss this in print and not just on their blogs.
talking to edmonton reporters and not ny reporters...I don't trust anything sather says...watch folks, I can see him trading jagr...and also doing something stupid like trading away dubinsky, not that want to see him go. But I'm hearing rumors on the other boards, that dubinsky could be heading to toronto for antropov...that would be scary.
A bit misleading...he didn't speak to Edmonton reporters...he spoke to AN edmonton reporter. The man in question is Jim Matheson, a Hockey Hall of Fame writer, who has known Sather for decades.
Feel bad for the NY media, I suppose...but this was nothing more than Slats talking to an old friend. Not an entire media gaggle from a foreign city as has been suggested.
If the Rangers don't win the cup Sather should be fired. 8 years here and what has he done to make this team a top 5 team in the league? Yes there are younger kids but there is not one top 3 young forward that can replace Jagr when he is gone.
Sather is wrong not to talk to Ny reporters. They cover the team and have a right to at least get some words out of him on the direction of the team. Sather does not care for us in NYC or the media.
I think it might be time for all of the New York Ranger beat writers to get together and collaborate on a column slamming Glen Sather for being so free with his time with out-of-town reporters as opposed to those reporters who cover the team on a day-to-day basis. I can understand that he has ties to Canadian/Edmonton mafia, but ro completely shut out the New York beat reporters shows how much class slats does NOT have.
OMG,
who cares whether or not Sather talks to the NY press?
who cares whether or not Avery talks to the press?
I can't believe some of the things you crazy people get all in a huff about.
Steve, I hope you take the time to respond to some of these blog comments.
Yeah we get in a huff because everyother GM here talks to the media when the bad happens and the good. Sather is out if New York, fishing sailing enjoying whatever it is he is doing. We have a right as fans to know what the team is up to and what moves he at least thinking about.
