His parents will be watching from Saskatchewan when left wing Dane Byers makes his Rangers debut tonight against Los Angeles on a line with Blair Betts and Colton Orr.
"Very excited," said Byers, who was at the same locker he used in Westchester the last time he was recalled, but didn't play. "I'm just going to keep it simple, read the play, get in on the forecheck, force them to turn pucks over. Same things I've been doing in Hartford.
Byers is here because Ryan Hollweg, who practiced with the team, will serve a one-game suspension.
Today also is the one-year anniversary of the trade with the Kings that brought Sean Avery here, where he said he feels he is treated more like an adult by the coaching staff. Although he stays in touch with some players, including Mike Cammalleri and Scott Thornton, "it all goes away when they drop the puck."
Brendan Shanahan, who did not skate, remains day-to-day. My guess is that he won't play until the weekend.
Ryan Callahan, who will dress for the second game since his recall, said he feels more comfortable than when he left for the Pack in early December. "The knee's 100 percent...I got my whole game back under me down there."
More from the Garden later...

I think you mean Scott Thorton... I think Shawn is a Bruin.
Callahan looked good against Montreal, just out of position on the right wing often.
all i have to say is, prove it Cally!!!!
LA is the worst team in the league currently. With Kopitar, Brown and Frolov leading in points, the teams over all -28. Don’t be fooled by what looks like a complete lack of offensive talent. Overall the team has 8 players with 20 or more points. With Calder and Handzus as this teams underachievers, there are 2 more closing in fast also. Very similar to the Rangers.
The hot new rookie lately is Brain Boyle, with a goal and assist in his first NHL game just the other night.
Cammalleri and Nagy are out of tonights game. Possibly Blake as well (Blues, couldn’t find an injured Blake story, a little help?)
The Kings have the 6th best PP in the league with 19.2 49goals/255chances (3rd highest). Which means they’re fast!
28th in PK with 79.7.6% - 6 short handed goals. So thank goodness, no Malik! Lol
They putting 30 shots on goal a game, so Hank will have his work cut out for him.
This team needs this win. Complete dominance of this LA team will make it to the Ducks practice tomorrow morning when they start getting ready for the Rangers on Thursday. We’ll have the momentum to beat the Champs! Another game sorely needed.
Let’s make it 4 in a row boys! Keep the ball roll’in!
Let’s go Rangers!
I agree I want to see Cally prove it. Mainly because I like this kid and think he has potential but want to see it.
Slick, (Here's two)

I want and see a big win tonight. Set the tone early. Hope Avery can be Avery because it can have a good affect tonight. He has to be pumped. My call is that the Drury line will shine again tonight.
4 in a row...LETS GO RANGERS!
(feels like a playoff game tonight, guess they are all going to for a while huh?)
Well with Blake out too, than there are no excuses.
Must win!
Callahan is going to have to show something more than the bump and grin if he wants to stay around for Thursday or the weekend. I just don't see Renny sitting Hollweg at this point.
But anything is possible right.
MUST WIN!
Let's go Rangers!
let Shanny sit until weekend - not because he's playing poorly or what not, but because the rest will serve him good come end of reg. season and playoffs. he knows, and we know, that he can still play, but at 40+ yrs. of age, he could use some time off to rest and recoupe.
i like the young guys enthusiasim, and certainly like the feeling that gomer and drury are stepping up and helping out jags.
also, rest up henrik a little more often here to freshen his legs as well. i know every game is a must win, but valliquette can win the games vs. kings / lesser teams.
Guys, let's not underestimate the Kings. The have won something like 6 of 10 with 2 OTLs over the last 10. They have some VERY good younglings and are dangerous on the PP. No dumb penalties Roszival!!
I just hope that the boys aren't underestimating them as well. Renney better have them fired up so they come out flying. A quick goal or two will put the young Kings on their heels.
And I disagree, we need to play Hank as often as possible. Ride him like we did last year down the stretch. He didn't tire last year and he's had a pretty favorable schedule this year with some rest built in. Plus, between the 10th and 29th we only play six games, so their is more rest ahead. Hank seems to be getting back to being himself and we need him.
Two big points tonight, let's get them.
"there" not "their" in the last post.
Going into tonights game I had to point this out, an Islanders fan made me watch it once:

Zipay, I was wondering if you've heard of this guy Brunnstrom in the Swedish Elite League, or if the Rangers have any interest in him. I had never heard of him until I read the article on tsn.ca. Sounds like someone the Rangers should be interested in maybe for next year.
Here's a link to the article if anyone wants to read it.
