Time for a move?
With all facets of the Rangers game falling apart, if GM Glen Sather or his right hand man Jim Schoenfeld has a trade on the table to be made, he should pull the trigger in the next few days.
Too bad Dominic Moore was grabbed by Toronto off waivers. His d-presence and fondness for New York would've been valuable.
With seven games (five at home) before the All-Star break, the Rangers desperately need to regroup and pull out of the slide.
Because Henrik Lundqvist was not chosen for the East All-Stars, it would be wise to encourage him to use the late January break to visit his family in Sweden. Everyone else should use the time for some soul-searching.
Congrats to Scott Gomez for his All-Star selection and Rick DiPietro for his. As I've written, he's the Isles' MVP, the key reason that they are over .500 and deserves the nod.
Newsday's Katie Strang is filing in for me at practice. Check here later for an update...

how about malik for lapointe
Agree that the timing is right for a move..ESpecially like to see a two way 3rd-line winger or a steady dependable D-man...OTOH, dsee your thinking on Dom Moore though..Would have been a total waste of a pick-up...The 4th line is alrady lights out defensively most of the time and has been the best line of the team since Holly's one game benching (and it's no coincedence that the line has played better as soon as Hollweg straigtened hs game out)..It's the one thing we don't touch...Unless you were thinking about replacing Dubi...
We need a #1 D-man more than anything else. We have too many forwards as it is.
Not just a #1 Dman. They need an Ulfie. They need a Beuk. They need someone that is going to hang back and treat guys like Marion Gaborik like they need to be treated. Put the lumber in their back when they're standing in front of Hank for a screen or deflection, or standing at the side of the net sniffing for a deflection or rebound. If they had an Ulfie or Beuk knocking them on their @$$e$ they would think twice about standing in front of Hank. They would be shooting from the outside...
kind of like if 25 would start putting an elbow up when he felt a hit coming, he wouldn't get his block knocked off so often.
AND
Instead of Hartnell smacking the fastball out of the air behind Hank, after Drury wiffs, he would just get knocked on his @$$ before he had a chance to swing the stick.
Guess what? There are TWO Dominic Moore's in the NHL, and Toronton picked up the 27-year old former Minnesota player, NOT the 23-year old Hartford Wolf Pack / New York Ranger.
I think Henrik (even with the recent slump) deserved to be on the All-Star team more than Vokoun in Florida. But, maybe it was one of those instances where he wanted to be excused to be able to go to Sweden for the long weekend.
The move is simple, pull the damn "C" off of Jagr's shoulder and put it on to Drury. Listen some captains lead by example other are a hodge-podge of ability. Messier could score and was "wise" on the ice. If Jagr doesn"t score... he has no other leadership skills and looses the respect of his fellow teammates. I would consider Shanny for the "C", but I think he may be in and out of the line-up in the coming weeks. If someone other than Jagr gets the captaincy maybe everyone will stop looking to pass the puck to number 68... maybe the Rangers will become a "team". And to those who say Jagr is too fragile for such a move I say time for pragmatism... whatever helps the most is the best... Jagr has to start wondering about a legacy not just stats... Jagr can either step up his game with an "A" on his shoulder or book a flight to Russia...
