The Rangers are close to a deal in which they will play some preseason games in Europe in late September. A team spokesman said that training camp would begin in Westchester and some preseason games would be played here before the Rangers jet to Bern, Switzerland and then to Prague. No word on which European teams would be the opponents before the Rangers open next season with two games against Tampa in Prague. That series is expected to be announced during All-Star weekend in Atlanta

The breakup of the two young D-men lasted games: The win over Montreal and the loss to the Pens. Coach Tom Renney said the separation would be short term, and it was.
The pair will be rejoined tonight, and Marik Malik will skate with Michal Rozsival and Paul Mara with Marc Staal.

Brian Leetch will join Mark Messier, Mike Richter, Jeff Beukeboom, Rod Gilbert, Adam Graves and Stephane Matteau in the 14th annual "Skate with the Greats" on Jan. 23 at Rockefeller Center.
