Blue Notes: MASH unit grows; Avery on IR

The Rangers' injury list mounted today as Sean Avery, whose right wrist was injured by a slash and swelled up after the Montreal game on Dec. 30, was placed on injured reserve retroactive to Saturday. "It's been bothering him a lot," said coach Tom Renney. Avery had surgery on the other wrist at the end of November.

So, Rangers fans who've been clamoring for youth will have their pleas answered tonight, with Nigel Dawes, Greg Moore and probably Pierre Parenteau---summoned from Hartford to practice---dressing to face the Lightning.

Martin Straka (concussion, more tests today) and Brendan Shanahan (knee) will be sidelined, although Renney said Shanahan would skate in the pre-game warmups. Shanahan skated before the team this morning, and felt better than he thought he would, said Renney, but the target date for his return is Thursday.

Moore had flu symptoms and didn't skate, so the lines were jumbled. Chris Drury was on the left of Scott Gomez and Jaromir Jagr; Parenteau, who played five games for the Blackhawks last season (with an assist), skated on a line with Marek Malik (yes) and Marcel Hossa. Brandon Dubinsky centered Dawes and Petr Prucha, and the Hollweg-Betts-Orr fourth line was intact.

Should be an interesting evening at the Garden...

If Avery wants to stay a Ranger, I suggest he takes paycut!

Dawes Gomez Jagr
Prucha Drury Parenteau
Hossa Dubinsky Moore
Hollweg Betts Orr

wow that's a lot of youth!

If Renney is now saying that Avery's hand was bothering him on the entire trip, why would he use him in the shootout?

joe good call, and what r those line combos in practice!

i dont think it will be as bad as everyone else thinks it will be as long as the above lines from the practice r used. no way should malik be a forward or every touch the ice again unless he wants to be an islanders ice girl cause he plays as soft as one

the above lines from practice AREN'T used

Why not give Prucha a chance to play with Jagr??

Wow! Hope some of you are happy now.

I know your not because Ken Gernander wasn't called up to coach and Sather is the GM not Schoenfeld but, tonight is going to be a sight to watch for sure!

I hope that I am wrong and this team shines tonight but, I can't wait to hear all the defense for all these kids tomorrow when the team looks dumber then dumb out there on the ice tonight.

Heres your youth! If they fail miserably please get your blame comments for Renney ready...wait, most of you do that here already, nevermind!

Henrik if you ever needed to be huge that time starts now!

7 out of the next 9 at home this was the stretch to make it happen for the season. Could turn out being the stretch that causes the golf bags to come out and get cleaned.

Avery's career seems to be headed the way of the Eric Cairn's of the world. This wrist injury seems to be one of those that will get reinjured everytime he fights, gets slashed or checks hard. Shame-the Rangers either need to rest him until it is completely healed or he will be done.
