How could I forget "Time Will Crawl"?
Two minutes for brain lapse.
But I also forgot this one, by John Prine, "Sabu Visits the Twin Cities Alone." Won't bore the non-believers with the lyrics, which are swell, though.
One more note from Dom Moore. It was rather balmy here today---mid-20s---and Moore said that after "a few days of minus-2, you get one of these and think, "Ah, it's not so bad." Not.
And this from Joe Micheletti, who hails from Hibbing, home of Bob Dylan and Kevin McHale. "I had six brothers and one was close to Kevin's age. He played hockey until a growth spurt at maybe 14, then it was all basketball."
Other notables from Hibbing, a old iron mining town hours north of here:
Vincent Bugliosi, the Manson prosecutor, and Gary Puckett..."Young girl, get out of my life.."
Didn't all that Union Gap stuff sound the same?
More from the press box in a while....

I say the Rangers go out and give it all they got to beat the Twins. Ever since the moved from Hartford and got rid of Rick Aguilara I cannot stand them!
Well, this game is going horribly. BURNS IS A DIRTBAG! Gaborik just stuck his tounge out and pumped his fist like he won the Stanley Cup. What a moron. You aren't ever winning the Stanley Cup you idiot. Someone needs to take a run at Burns and whoever is standing in front of the net needs to nock Gaborik on his rear end. You can't let him stand in front of the net, carry the puck in front of the net, or shoot that close. Somebody DO SOMETHING besides stand around and watch that moron stick his tounge out. Rip it out of his head or something.
"At $173,333/point, Jags is on pace for 57 points... I said 57 POINTS! He isn't making his option triggers and isn't going to get 9.88 million next year unless he goes to Philly."
8 left in the 2nd. The referee is beating the Rangers tonight. I just love it when The referee determines the outcome of the game.

These refs are retarded. Seriously its amazing how they have one job to do and they can't do that right. Those 2 minors were bullsh*t. How the hell do we get a penalty when Prucha got elbowed. THE REF WAS RIGHT THERE HOW CAN HE NOT CALL IT. I hope burns has his head dropped on the back of the ice and gets a concussion.
WOW WHAT A SURPRISE. ANOTHER PENALTY ON THE RANGERS. These refs are unreal.
Hey DAN: Now you know how the REST OF THE NHL feels! AVON AVERY does that nightly. He yaps, tongue out, smirks, etc.
As for you people blaiming the refs. Simply hilarious. Your team is so over-rated, it is scary.
Ahh yes carry him off the ice because he scored five goals ... classy. Jesus do they have nothing better to do then watch Gaborik take a victory lap and get carried off the ice. Woo hoo you scored 5 goals. (Although im not taking away the accomplishment theres just much classier ways to handle it.) Back to vintage Ranger hockey i see. WHEW I was worried we would actually win two in a row for a minute.
Joe,
You are right. It's like 1997-2004 all over again! Lots of star power and no chemistry...
Anonymous,
Fair enough Avery is an agitator (you might as well admit it, you want him on " Lon Gisland"), but at least he doesn't commit attempted murder in front of 23,000 fans like Chris Simon does!

This was brutal, I think I lost a lot of respect for Lundqvist, he couldn't stop a beachball there. When will Renney get that Prucha and Callahan never have and never will have any chemistry? Wasn't it apparent enough during the playoffs? What is the point of Hollweg and Orr when they couldn't even respond to Prucha getting killed?
Shanahan is absolute crap, he just wastes offense with his terrible shots and refuses to even finish checks. When was the last time he hit someone?
Trade the entire 4th line they suck. And instead play Hossa, Moore and Byers--this line will generate offense, defense and energy.
Screw it, trade Prucha already, Renney screwed him so bad that he is no longer the same player he was even last season. It will take a lot of effort to get Prucha back to the player that he was. And he hurts the team by being a victim of big hits.
And why not send Callahan down for a handful of games to get his scoring and confidence back?
So much to talk about here and so many questions to be answered.
Why didn't someone stand up for Prucha?
How come Prucha doesn't start putting his elbows up?
Why does every goalie have their best night against NYR?
Why did NYR give up for a minute or two after each goal they scored?
Why did the D let Gaborik stand in front of Lundqvist like he was
a beer vendor on the concourse?
Gaborik wouldn't have had five goals had someone put a big hit on him while he was standing in front of the net. That big, mean, slot clearing defenseman ala Jeff or Ulfie would have put a stop to that crap quick...and Glen picked Chereponov instead of Petrecki. What good would a JJ clone have done last night? Oh yeah, that's right,
"At $173,333/point, Jags is on pace for 57 points... I said 57 POINTS! He isn't making his option triggers and isn't going to get 9.88 million next year unless he goes to Philly."
I still can't get over the Burns hit. If Petr would just start getting the stick up, elbows up, or hands up he might start to get a rep and take a few PIMs but after the first few times the hits would stop. #11 made a career out of not getting hit by getting his elbows up when he got run.
Holy crap Crosby had a night didn't he? It's too bad NYRs poor chemistry getting taken advantage of by a clown overshadowed his best game yet.

Gaborik was way too comfortable last night. Last night's one of those games where Sean Avery's value really shows. Someone needed to get under the Wild's skin and throw them off their game.
WHY DID DUBINSKY GO OVER AND GRAB BURNS AFTER THE HIT. HE SHOULD HAVE WENT OVER AND KNOCKED HIS TEETH DOWN HIS THROAT. CHARGE STRAIGHT OVER WHILE DROPPING THE GLOVES AND THROWING HAYMAKERS. THAT IS HOW YOU STICK UP FOR YOUR TEAM MATE ON A PLAY LIKE THAT. THE FACT THAT BURNS NEVER PAID FOR IT IS MORE DISGUSTING THEN THE OUTCOME OF THE GAME!
PEOPLE NEED TO START MAKING THE STATEMENT THAT OUR PLAYERS AREN'T OUT THERE TO GET RUN OVER.
ALSO, NONE HAVE YOU WOLF PACK FANS HAVE FOUND A PLACE TO TALK YET? STOP WITH THE 4TH LINE AND TRADE THIS GUY AND THAT GUY. IN THE SAME BREATH YOU RIP ONE MEMBER OF THE YOUTH YOU ASK FOR MORE!
Steve--
Young girl, get out of my *mind*
My love for you is way out of line...
Important to treat these cultural milestones with respect.
I'll second the notion that we need Avery more than ever. If Avery was in the lineup Gaborik doesn't score 5 goals.
Also born in Hibbing, MN (on 9/10/34): Roger Maris

This is a hockey blog, so don't forget Matt Cullen born and raised yoost down da road dare now from Hibbing in a little town called Virginia which is in the shadow of the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame (in Eveleth, or as they say up there "Ebleth").
They run THE US/USSR Hockey Game from 1980 Lake Placid there 24/7 on a TV monitor.
Matt Liskanen (sp) from the Stars is from Virginia as well.
On a more negative note about the area, (aka as Da Range, I have spent WAY TOO MUCH TIME UP THERE), it is where the movie North Country (Charlize Theron) was based out of, where up until recently "Men are men and woman better be glad of it".
And nice correction on the Union Gap lyrics there nyce, I was gonna jump all over Steve and give away my age.
Anyone see Prucha go THROUGH the boards last night during the drubbing you took?
At the end of the day, your team is going nowhere and you are all starting to realize it.
PICK ON THE LITTLE KID,
Amen. Somone should have at least taken a run at that guy for throwing the elbow, but what is really funny is that he tried to hurt a guy probably less than half his size and couldn't even do it right. If Avery is on the ice Gaborik doesn't get 5 goals.
"At $173,333/point, Jags is on pace for 57 points... I said 57 POINTS! He isn't making his option triggers and isn't going to get 9.88 million next year unless he goes to Philly."
how about the fact that Henrik is absolute swiss cheese lately. He may need glasses. Glasses Alice, glasses!
Two cents from an Islander fan on the Burns/Prucha hit.
First cent...
From my perspective there was no elbow involved. Rosen and Micheletti (and I guess Renney) were clamoring for one, but from my barcolounger, the only violation was Burns leaving his feet, barely. Which should have made it a penalty call. But that was easy to see on slo-mo replay.
It was a MONSTER hit, however.
And the followup hit by Burns on whoever the guy was that skated in to "send a message" to Burns was equally impressive.
It was clearly a game changing event.
Second cent....
I continued watching, anticipating Orr or Holweg to follow Burns out on the ice for his next shift. Never happened. At all. The entire game.
WHAT'S UP WITH THAT?
Was it because Orr and Holwegs dad's were in the stands?
What's going on over there Rangers?
Christ, out on the Island we got (had) a guy delivering completely uncalled for and ill-timed cheap shots and the Rangers aren't even standing up for their own guys when they get pulverized?.
Islander505,
Watch it again, the elbow was in Prus face mask.
SERIOUSLY ISLANDERFAN IF THAT HIT WAS ON PARK YOU WOULD BE CRYING THAT THE REFS WERE OUT TO SCREW YOU AS USUAL AND LOOKING FOR A SUSPENSION. SO WHO ARE YOU KIDDING?
how about the fact that DiPietro is absolute swiss cheese lately. He may need glasses. Glasses Alice, glasses!
