In what qualifies as a strange decision, it appears no forward has been summoned from Hartford and D Jason Strudwick is working with the forwards at the optional skate.
A practice goaltender (unidentified at the moment) is here, however, as Henrik Lundqvist often skips these game-day skates.
About 15 skaters are here, including Sean Avery. Jaromir Jagr, in warmup suit and no helmet, skated alone earlier.

Color me not surprised. Renney needs to stop being so darn stubborn. It is hurting this team and it might hurt his employment status. By not summoning an extra forward to come up for tonight's game, he is basically saying that this team can get the job done offensively. Is he watching the same team that I and many others are? This means Hollweg moves to the third line, wow, Brodeur must be shaking in his skates with this lineup:
Hossa-Gomez-Jagr
Dawes-Drury-Shanahan
Hollweg-Dubinsky-Prucha
Strudwick-Betts-Orr
Horrible, I didn't sign up for this nonsense!
Blues called this one.
pathetic, Renney needs to be fired. Moore deserved a callup
Funny that Pock was waived when he could have been a much better 3rd line fill in for Callahan than Strudwick or Hollweg. Everything is so backwards with Renney and the Rangers.
this is pure genius for a team who has trouble scoring lets insert a player into the lineup who cant score
hopefully the fans are smart enough to start a "Fire Renney!" chant?

Slick - Yea and I am a fair weather troll...:) that knows nothing. Not claiming to know it all either and never have!
Strange decision? I am going to go out on a limb here and say that is a matter of opinion. I am not sure exactly what Zipay is implying with the comment.
I am not surprised. This team started the season with a real $ issue with being close to the cap. Also with carrying the 8 defense men. I don't know all the exact rules here but, with the injuries we had to call up Dawes. So at what point do the call-ups pose cap problems. Can that have to do with the decision to not call up another body? Or the trade that might be working?
This is why I have liked the move of having Strudwick on the team. He can play both Offense and Defense he has a lot of experience and like said before, he has alot to do with leadership, the locker room and is good to have around the kids on the team.
Midnight - We and Tom Renney all have seen this offense and it's not working at the time. I have to think that coaches and management see that but, at the same time the money and talent put into this team and added. Well, we all know it should be doing more and all have to have a little faith it will. At this point do you think that Bourett or Moore can really get this line up going? *don't read this as attack either, just conversation*
Strudwick will play third line tonight.
Dawes - Gomez - Jagr
Hoss - Drury - Shanny
Strudwick - Dubinsky - Prucha
Hollweg - Betts - Orr
This is really interesting!!!
**A practice goaltender (unidentified at the moment)**
Holt was called up to add to Montoya and Wiikman in Hartford so... STEVE, WHO IT THE MYSTERY GOALIE???
I think you are all missing the point. Renney most likely intends to double shfit Jagr with Dubinsky and Prucha. I actually think this is a good thing as Dubinsky's game may most likely match Jagr, i.e. down low, puck control, in the corners. It is politically impossible for Renney to just make that switch, given the money and contract. But this is a way to try it without any related problems.
Up in the Blues,
Hey stop attacking me, hahaha, kidding. I understand what you are getting at. Bourret and Moore have a better than average offensive game, but yes the immediate impact probably wouldn't have been so great, more so because Renney woud have sparingly played either of them. I understand, even with the injuries, that this team should put up some good offensive numbers, especially if Jagr and Shanahan look like they did for good portions of last season. But, this leads me to my next point, what if Shanahan and Jagr have lost a step? Are the Rangers relying on two players that they thought they could rely on but, in actuality can't? Jagr's shaky start and Shanahan's inability to score, despite a league leading 50 shots on goal are starting to make me think......not worry, just think. Even the great players lose it, maybe Jagr's and particularly Shanahan's time has come.
I’d like to jump in here Midnight,
If the “lost their step” theory is correct, than Renny knows it now. He knew it during Training Camp and that would explain the line juggling.
What do you do, trade them now or wait half the season to the deadline and see who and what people will pay for them? OR, just let them finish here?
All this speculation on a scoring drought worries me. This is when the rumors fly and the lies stand up. Ugh!
I was just talking to a guy who told me that Cherpanov will not be ready for the states until the 09-10 season. Does anyone know differently? I read over the summer that he was coming next year. He wanted to finish one year of his contract in Russia first.
Slick - Maybe my hopes are clouding my judgment and i don't want to admit it. Maybe they are who knows? But, i want to say NO!
To me this is a team thing that is going on right now. Not a individual players. The team is tense and tight, I think you can see it game after game. They need to grab a win or two from simple hockey and then the fun can start and the winning to follow. Know what I mean?
Sorry that was to Midnights post.
But, to you both as well.
I agree with blues. I think if they get a couple of wins they'll loosen up and start playing better. There are still some obvious holes that need to be filled for this team to reach it's goal of winning the cup.

I wanted to make sure I posted my name so I wouldn't be accused of being a troll.
funny
I am not trying to start anything with those assessments of Shanahan and Jagr. But they don't look like the forces they were, even last season. Can we all chalk it up to lack of chemistry and bad puck luck? I want to believe that these guys are just slumping and will snap out of it, in short fashion. One has to wonder about these two though, so far.
I think they brought Shanny back to mentor the young guys not really to score like he used to. Jagr can still be great when HE wants to be. I look forward to this team after their gone. We definitely have some good young talent for the future.
