Blue Notes: Nigel's Night

Two goals.
A season-high six hits.
A game-high (with Chris Drury) five shots
Scott who?
It was Nigel's night.

"Dawes has one of the best shots on the team," said Henrik Lundqvist, the second star of last night's game, who extended his shutout streak to 99:16. "Not necessarily a heavy shot, but a quick release. I saw him last year and all this time this year in practice."

Dawes capitalized on a bench mishap, when Karel Rachunek's pass up ice near the Devils' bench was deflected as Johnny Oduya was coming off the ice and Andy Greene was coming on. Brendan Shanahan scooped it up and fed Dawes, who capitalized for one of the biggest goals of the season, one that gave the Rangers a much-needed lift at the 57-second mark.

"It was a terrible mistake to make in any kind of hockey game," said Devs coach Brent Sutter.

The speedy Dawes' second score gave him not only his first career multi-goal game, it was the first by any Ranger in the initial nine games of the season.

Said coach Tom Renney, in perhaps the exaggeration of 2007----and OK, he had to be happy with the win----"In the last five years, he (Dawes) probably scored 400 goals, all the way back to junior and being scouted there."

And let's not forget rookie Brandon Dubinsky, who won five of seven faceoffs and bulled his way down the right boards to set up Dawes' insurance marker in the third period.

"I don't think I expected anything different," said Dubinsky, who logged just 10:17, but 2:59 on the PP. "It was the same way these two teams have played for years."

Petr Prucha also notched his first assist, on Dawes' second goal.

The Rangers had 31 shots on Marty Brodeur (Gomez had two) and limited the Devils to 22 on Lundqvist.

Here's two great stats: In the last 11 periods, the Rangers have allowed 10 or fewer shots on Lundqvist.

No. 2: Dan Girardi, not even on the club at this point last season, led the team with 23:56 played. Think he's helped?

Not to overlook the PK, the Rangers have allowed just six goals in 48 shorthanded ops, sixth best in the league coming in.

More tomorrow....

all this money and all we do is trap to protect a mediocre goalie in lundqvist.

another 22 save sleeper. did he face more than three quality shots including the one that hit the post.

boring.

Steve no need to spend millions on free agents when trades and drafting good players work. Girardi, Dawes, and Dubinsky don't add up to a 1/5 of what Drury makes yet they play hard and play hungry. We have seen in the Bronx what the young kids do to a veteran team. it makes them that much better.

Good win not great but Henrik is unreal. He deserves any money he wants. He can get 6 million a year because he is that good. Let's hope Sather resigns him soon or right after January.

That would be Pru's second point of the season Steve, his first assist.

Rangers are becoming like the Devils a boring trapping hockey with half empty arena

"That would be Pru's second point of the season Steve, his first assist"

shows how big of a fan Zipay really is...

Rangers dont play a pure trap, they play puck control, and pressure constantly. its an adaptive system that lets you funnel everything to the outside in your own end, and take what the opponents give you in the offensive end.

Theres a reason the rangers have had like 30+ shots in almost every game. they are getting their chances. really they should be in the top 5 in goal scoring if they could just hit the damn net. everything is going wide, or into the gut of the goalie. sometimes youre snakebitten, but the rangers arent boring, thats for damn sure.

This game was pretty damn boring. And Devils are one of the weakest teams in NHL, especially with White and Langenbrunner out. If this was some other team we would have lost, I guarantee it.

maybe Renny will take a look at youngsters now. I do like him as a coach, although at time i think he does bonehead sh*t. I dont like people saying Gomez hasnt been playing well because the past 6 games he has been flying all over the ice, setting up plays and playing solid D. He has been great.

I didn't set up any plays actually. All my passes missed the mark or were intercepted. I still can't believe somebody was dumb enough to give me 52 million contract.

We have no $$$$$$$$ or Cap Space to give Henrik waht he will deserve. Tell JD to dust off his pad b/c we do not have the cash to sign our goalie. Why did they give these two pilons all that money? Another long year at the Barney colored seats in MSG!

"Posted by Gomez | October 26, 2007 00:41 This game was pretty damn boring. And Devils are one of the weakest teams in NHL, especially with White and Langenbrunner out. If this was some other team we would have lost, I guarantee it"

Can't look at hockey that way. It isn't like baseball or football. On any given night the worst team in the league can beat the best team. It's about chemistry and momentum. The Flint Generals or the Orlando Solar Bears with all the chemistry and momentum could beat the Wings when their chemistry is out of whack. Its all about chemistry and momentum. Just look at the 97-98 Rangers. They had assembled arguably the best team in the league ON PAPER but they just couldn't get it together. No chemistry. No chemistry.

Damn, I can't be more sick of the negativity on this blog.

Fact is, we are outshooting our opponent every game, and the commitment to TEAM DEFENSE that we had starting last January has improved drastically.

Nigel Dawes should have been in the lineup since day 1, he is now, and now will not be going anywhere.

If anyone doesn't see how good of a two way hockey player Scott Gomez is, I really am afraid for you.

You people who jumped off the bandwagon and those of you who claim to be Rangers fans but then root for misery so you can claim to be right can just go away right now and not come back.

Gettin better everyday.....

A little early to be a moron isn't it?

Do I "sign" like I know what I am talking about?

wow, the imposter is brilliant isn't he?

LOL

Now that I put the imposter in his place, Do you all agree with me that we should trade Jagr and Drury?

Your kidding right "Reality"?

You are by far the most ignorant Ranger fan we have. Keep your opinions to yourself!

Ummmmmmm, no....

If you are going to pretend to be me, bring up something just a little more intelligent.

Such as this:

We are dominating every game.

Just imagine when the pucks start going in!!!

How great does our future look with these young stalwarts on defense in Girardi, Tyutin and Marc Staal?

Other than the big dogs not putting more in the net, great game! I have to say that Hollweg last night not only stuck to his usual pinball hitting action but laid down a nice couple of shifts dangling. Not too shabby from a guy with his kind of game.
Dubinsky! Dubinsky! Wow! Without a shadow of doubt; that kid is the hardest working guy playing up front. Strong, quick, can see the ice well. Not for nothing, but let’s see what this kid can do with Jagr and Hossa on the first line. Or Jagr and DAWES BABY!
Blues, I was just one game off on calling that one huh? Lol
Drury robbed… twice! If anyone else was in goal last night, the score would have been a lot higher.
PPPRRRUUUU! My favorite player and it makes the night to see him play a hard smart game. It’s all the better when he earns a point.
Ladies and Gentlemen we have our defensive future in Tyutin and Girardi.
Gomez had a good first period. What happened in 2 and 3? He just became invisible. He won’t last 7 years with this kind of play in New York. Jagr was all over the place last night. Shanahan had a good defensive game. And Hossa was a magic man in the first. But was his usual self the rest of the game.
HENRY!! HENRY!!HENRY!!
Gave up one goal in three games!

Wait. I thought I used to be the imposter, now it's Reality Check. Who's next 414 or Up In The Blues? Or are they just phishing.
Reality, now you come clean here pal and you tell these nice people that your sorry and you'll never do it again.

Worry about yourself Slick. They are right when they talk about you. It is because of you they come here and pick on us intelligent fans.

As for the rest of you, we got our one win in five games. We keep this up and we will be a .500 team in no time.

"I spew silly notions to hide my inferior hockey IQ"

Yup and having a superior "hockey" IQ makes you cool! Super mega cool. Super mega mega x 1000 coolest, ever! Superior hockey IQ's get you great jobs at Burger King or as the local Pizza Delivery "Guy"!
Superior Hockey IQ's get you pretty much the best car man ever made. The Ford Pinto. That's right. Cream colored with red and yellow flame coming over the hood like a Nightmare Stallion from the hells of Gooberdardeder (nerd sp?).

It is an incredible gift for you to have graced us with your presents here this morning “Superior Hockey IQ Guy”. (insert Miller Light commercial music)

Thank You.
just Laughable

Laguhable, you seem to know a lot about the fast food service. Did you get to be manager? Congrats kid. Remember to seep up before leaving.

Struds, Hossa, Hollweg... fantastic work ethic out of those guys last night. I think the extra ice time is doing Hollweg a world of good. Dawes obviously is hungry to stay in the bigs, question is, who'll be sent down when the injuries blow over?

It was a good game. They played good all around. Henrik is standing on his head. Funny was just reading something on one of these blogs about the Rangers D being the worst in the league. I am not doing the research but, I am sure that is far from the truth.

Dawes and Dubinsky both impressed me last night. Jagr, Gomez and Drury played their a$$es off lastnight. It's one win but, lets hope that was the start of things to come.

As for trades, lets stop reading what that clown on HockeyFuzz is writing. There is now way that Jagr gets moved unless it is deadline day and the Rangers are out of the picture.

Drury and Gomez are going no where...

SIDE NOTE: Stumbled on this,
Reports NY Rangers defenceman Thomas Pock recently wrote on his website that he's happy the club has placed him on waivers as it allowed him to see if there was serious interest in him from other NHL teams, adding that playing in Hartford was better than sitting out games in New York.

Where was that serious interest? LOL

Laughable = Reality

You are fooling no one. Go back under your rock. You post after a win. Big of you!

I think Laughable is funny. I don't think that's Reality Check, its the imposter. He's funny too, but in a bad way.

Mega mega x 1000...

"Superior Hockey IQ" makes great money at being bloggers too. Umm, does anyone here make 6 figures typing their opinions all day? I know our imposter does. He's the smartest, coolest super ultra mega fan ever! How about just the "intelligent fans", do they make any scratch here either? Are you getting the point "Super Mega Hockey IQ" nerd?

Actually "Laguhable" you are posting more then him. So that makes you what?

Let me guess. Dungeons and Dragons head master?

You would be very surprised how much the imposter makes. Trust me on that one. What does money have to do with it anyway? Ohhh that is cute. You are trying to act like a big shot. Let me guess, VW Jetta junior executive mobile, got your first commission check a week ago, Blew it on a botttle of wine that your boss told you to buy? Head up young buck, it will all get better.

**** IF you are going to post as a fake name like "Laughable," shouldn't you be funnier than me ?

ouch. Where I am from they call that a knock out!

LMAO. Now that was funny!

Slick not me posting. I have not posted since last night. Great. I just don't understand why we can't have the idiots go to their own blog.

I heard on XM last night that the Rangers are looking into moving Jagr. He is not happy right now. As much as he talented I don't see him fitting in. This team is a lot different with a Drury and Gomez. They don't slow the game down the way Jagr played with Nylander.

But that kid line looked last nigth. I had to watch the Rangers in 60.

Now that was funny! Good job!

It's pretty obvious "Anonymous" is not a Rangers' fan. Anyone referring to Lundqvist as a "mediocre" goaltender not only isn't a Rangers fans, but can't be a hockey fan. The King is 25 years old & is arguably in the top 3/4 goalies in the League. This isn't my view, it's a common view held throughout the League. I can/could never understand what the point of trolling on another team's blog when your points are factless, baseless & often made up. Rangers fans welcome reasonable debate. Comments like Lundqvist is mediocre- 16 goals against in 9 games, are foolish. It's still early. For those with short memories, I think Mike Richter was something like 0-4 at the start of 1994 & ended up 42-12 & something. Not saying this years team will match 1994's, but this year's Rangers are a good team, with real good younger players who will only get better.

Blue _You figure that one out all by yourself that I am not a Rangers fan or did you hire Starsky and Hutch? New detective costume for Halloween?

You guys are smart people. No pulling the wool over Big Blues eyes. Sharp as a nail !

I'm a little confused with whatever the heck is going on here this morning. Is Laughable, who just got served, an imposter playing fan?
Is not so funny the imposter? Jesus!
I was sure we'd all be talking about that great game last night!

How about Hollweg? Hossa in the first! These kids look like superstars to me. DAWES BABY!

I watch in 60 last night too. Those big saves on Drury were all luck. Jagr's move in the (first?) would have been the highlight of the week on any station had he finished.
I was biting my nails in the 3rd, as were all the people sitting around us.

The best part, really, over everything. Everyone was smiling leaving the game last night. People talking about Dawes and Henry. Cheering, hope, talking. Best night at MSG this season.

These trade rumors are just dumb. Not evern worth the breath they were spoken with.

Got ya. The Not so Funny loser posting is "Steady" from the Islanders blog. He writes with the exact same style and uses the same comments/put downs.

Listen, Steady. Go back to writing about coming down for 20 games a year from Boston. Good for you. See you again Steady, we got ya.

Well although I like his style, he is not me. For I am a riddle wrapped in a question.

I am a better break dancer and folk singer than "steady," and a lot funnier.

Slick Willy, So dumb! Buddy, no one reads your posts. We skip them. You are a moron with little hockey knowledge and a poor vocabulary. Could there be anyone here more stupid than you. Rich Dip? I think not. Broadway or Reality Check? Nope! You take the cake. Thank you for wasting the time to spine the scroll wheel on our mouse yet again.
Now please go away.

The previous post calling out "Steady" was me.

I did forget to add Up in the Blues. Sir, you are just as dumb as Slick.

Just so ya know that wasn't my post earlier. Fag has nothing better to do. Good game last night. Lets hope they keep it up.

The previous post where I say I am the one calling out "Steady" was not me, but on June 10th I actually did make a funny post.

Granted no one read it, but it was me. Serioulsy it was.

I am JD. Put a little coke with me, JD, and you can get funky.

It is disappointing that after a really good game by the Rangers, that this thread is at it's alltime low in stupidity. Why can't there be anything but hockey talk going on in here? I'll give it a try: Isn't it funny that the Ranger worst defensive performance of the season was when Malik was a healthy scratch? People rip on him left and right, but whenever he is in the lineup, this team is one of the stingiest in the league. Hters call it boring, the Rangers play the trap they say. Hey, if it worked for the Devils, Red Wings, Stars when they all won cups, and currently the Senators, why not give it a shot. If it amounts to a myriad of wins, than I can live with that. Ducks didn't play up and down hockey last season, they played a defensive system as well. I think they won it all last season, playing that same "boring" defense that the Rangers played. Give me defense and wins over run and gun and losses, anyday of the week. Happy that Dawes showed Renney that he made a silly decision by sending him down. Let's hope he continues to score so he can't conceivably leave Dawes out of the lineup once the walking wounded return to action.

Maybe so. I don't think so. But what do I know, I'm a dumb hate monger cased into the pot with imposters and Isles fans. How? I don't really care. But it makes me feel better that you do. That's a lot of wasted energy on little old me.

Love it how tough people get behind a keyboard. Calling out people telling them they are stupid.

Dubinsky and Dawes were solid last night. What I liked about Dawes on the power play he saw open ice skated as close as he could and then took the shot. No fancy Euro crap passing. Just get the puck on net.

I like it when Jagr back checks. I just hope he adjusts to his non Euro ice mates.

Cool now I am just as dumb as Slick. Like I have said before I am done with the idiots that post here and the impostor BS.

So, Section 414. Just wanted to point something out to you. HockeyFuzz is presented by XM. Says is right on top of their website. That is why the tard Eklund gets recognition. As a XM subscriber I am disappointed in them for promoting that garbage. My point bing that Eklund, HockeyFuzz and XM are all in it together which means that is where the rumor came from last night on there too.

Back to the regularly scheduled nonsense of these blogs.

Man, Henrik is in the zone right now. You can't beat him down low, and he's always in perfect position to cut down all the angles. He's also getting most of the shots up high too. When the crowd starting chanting "Hen-rik" at the end, I thought they might jinx him, but you can tell he fed off the crowd and nothing was gonna beat him, and he made that one last pad save. As for Dawes, he's looked pretty damn good the last couple of games, and he finally got rewarded for it. Dubinsky really stood out as well. And for all the people hating on Gomez, that guy can straight up fly, and he's so solid on both sides of the ice. Their power(less) play still needs a lot of work. The second unit is looking better than the first IMHO. You also can't say enough about Brodeur. He made some sick saves. The stop he had on Drury's breakaway was amazing. This game could have been 4 or 5 to 0 pretty easily. I also don't understand how people can say this game was boring. Maybe you're just not a hockey fan, or maybe your life is miserable. If it's that boring, maybe you should turn on the world series and watch Ortiz step out of the box and spit on his hands after every pitch. It's riveting stuff. I mean maybe I'm too young and ignorant to know what good hockey is/was. Oh well, sucks for you, because I've enjoyed most of the games this season, even when we've lost.

Brodeur saved the Drury breakway with the butt of his stick. Lucky dog!
Trade Rumors, Jagr? Huh? Why? Would the pay out be huge? What team? Stupid Eklund.

It's easy to say you’re done with us imposters when quitting is all you know Mr. Blues. Stupid mega nerd. Well Sir, I’m no imposter. I’m just here to help clean up the board of it more useless components. Such as yourself. It's very possible you just might be dumber than Slick. Short bus rider? I'm sure.

Good to see your back Jess/Rich Dip/Uncle Renneys Doghouse and now laughable. Quitting, if you knew anything about me before you shot your mouth off you would know how wrong that is. Useless components? I'm one and you are doing what? Rag C was on the same crusade as you...so which one are you?

Anonymous, nice link!

I wonder how long will Renney remember that a ROOKIE has saved his job?

That link makes Hollweg look like a wimp, so why is it a good link? Says that Simon pummled him and then Hollweg hit him from behind with his stick. Not that that should surprise you. He got yet another 2 minutes for illegal hit last night in a one goal game. Eventually that punk will cost the team

Zippy.... Prucha scored a goal in the first game of the year !

I dont know how any fan can say this game was boring. The Rangers played well, and looked like the better team all the way through.
