Jagr, Avery to miss Flyers game as well

Jagr (hip flexor) and Avery (groin) not only won't play tonight, as we reported this morning, they will mostly likely skip tomorrow's visit to Philly as a precaution, coach Tom Renney said a few minutes ago.

This certainly scrambles Renney's plans to set his top two lines and give them some work in games before Thursday's opener.

That's a little troublesome, no?

Anyway, Scott Gomez is expected to center for Brendan Shanahan and Nigel Dawes....

Meanwhile, the chances of a continuation of the fight-filled foolishness of Monday night have been diminished. Goaltender Rick DiPietro, forward Mike Comrie and defensemen Andy Sutton and Brendan Witt are among those who won't play, as the Isles are going with a younger lineup.

Islanders coach Ted Nolan won't be here either due to a death in the family...

Wow, Shanahan line lethal tonight.

It is so so so tough not to include Dawes on this team, 3 assists after 2 periods.

I am not gloating about this game, I am just happy Rangers seem to be starting to get their act together.

Problem here is that it is the reverse of the previous Islander game. The Rangers had most of guys they sent down to Hartford playing and the Isles had most of their top lineup playing. Tonight, the Rangers have the top lineup playing minus Jagr (Hip inury big freaking surprise) and Avery. Betts can't score when the backups are playing, what the heck do they expect out of him when the top goalies are playing? I don't know how many times last season I saw him shoot the puck high, wide, or both. He's done it several times tonight. It is so far a good show for the boys but I am a little disappointed that the Isles aren't making a better game of it. I was hoping for a couple of carryover scraps from the last game but more exciting situations on both ends. Listen to the fans!!! Lol! "Woo! Woo! Woo!"

Did I say, "Betts can't score on the backups"? I meant Betts can't score when the goalies are pulled. Missed the first one so he had to give it to Pru. At least he was smart enough to do that the second time!

MSG sues NHL, claiming monopoly on web sites

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
7:30 PM EDT, September 28, 2007

The National Hockey League violated antitrust laws and is acting like 'an illegal cartel,' by monopolizing control of team promotions, Madison Square Garden claimed in a lawsuit Friday.

MSG, which owns the New York Rangers, said it filed the suit in U.S. District Court in Manhattan because the NHL would begin fining the organization $100,000 per day starting Friday if the company did not give the hockey league complete control over the Rangers' Web site and other promotions.

The league is seeking to control the licensing of teams for all commercial purposes and to stop teams from marketing apparel, merchandise and memorabilia, the suit said. MSG asked that a judge order the league to stop limiting team promotions, and it also wants the court to clarify the boundaries of hockey league rights.

The company said the hockey league had once worked with teams in a legitimate joint venture but had more recently "veered into unlawful behavior."

"By seeking to control the competitive activities of independent businesses in ways that are not necessary to the functioning of that legitimate joint venture, the NHL has become an illegal cartel," the suit said.

Scott Arthur Eggers, a lawyer for the NHL, said he had no comment.

The lawsuit said the NHL insisted last week that MSG transfer control over the Rangers independently produced Web site, including the "nyrangers.com" address so that the league could convert it into one of 30 "cookie-cutter" club Web sites at "nhl.com."

The lawsuit said MSG had spent years developing the site to market Rangers hockey in competition with other NHL teams. By seizing the site, the NHL would eliminate competition between teams and harm consumers.

"The NHL has no competitive justification for seizing the Rangers Web site, which MSG today uses as a competitive tool to generate and maintain fan interest in the Rangers in competition with other NHL teams," MSG said.

At the start of this year's hockey playoffs, MSG said it increased its competitive offerings by making Rangers-branded merchandise available through the Rangers Web site rather than a catalog, and by making Rangers games available to subscribers on its Web site.

The NHL forced MSG to withdraw the efforts when it imposed a penalty of $100,000 per day, MSG said. When the company refused to pay the fines, the league withheld $200,000 from third-party payments otherwise due MSG, the lawsuit said.

MSG gave in to the league's demands because it did not want to detract from the playoffs and it hoped that it could negotiate a solution to NHL actions it thought were unwise and illegal, it said. "That hope was in vain," the lawsuit said.

HEY ISLANDER505!

I'm supposed to move to ABQ, NM in December. Loved the town but is there any Live hockey at any level or rinks to skate at? Can you get MSG, Versus and FSNY? I suppose everyone there would be Colorado or Phoenix fans. Let me know, can't imagine a year without live hockey!

I heard a rumor as to why Teddy Nolan was fired from Buffalo. Man, for a guy to do this to one of his own players is really sad. How the Isles could hire this guy after that is beyond me.

Rangers win. Thuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu Rangers win!

anonymous wanna back that up. What happened with Nolan?

Badda bing, badda boom

Wasn't that the same rumour about Lindros's exit in Philly?
