Jagr, Avery scratched

A sore hip flexor will keep Jaromir Jagr---who just skated lightly this morning--- out of tonight's game with the Islanders.

"We weren't expecting it, but he's been doing a lot of extra work and maybe he overdid it," said coach Tom Renney.

Asked whether he thought it would affect Jagr's preparation for the season, Renney said: "He doesn't think it's a setback at all...I'm thinking he'll play tomorrow night. If not, we'll start the season with what we need to."

Sean Avery, who didn't practice this morning, also will rest his tweaked groin/right leg.

Artem Anisimov, Thomas Pock and Paul Mara are healthy scratches.

Renney indicated that he might not make final cuts until Oct. 3, the day before the Rangers open at home against the Panthers.

I do feel a little relieved that Avery isn't playing tonight.

If he is still not 100%, chances are his emotions would have gotten the best of him tonight and he'd risk hurting himself worse.

Seriously no big deal. Tonight won't be like Monday at all.

LOL, Avery fears the Islanders!!!

They all should fear the Islanders!!!

Where am I ?? My head hurts a lot ? I forgot my way to the Dr's office.

The Icelanders fear EVERY TEAM!

Sutton fears Avery

I have to wonder. And I'm not trying to antagonize anything.

BUT!!!!

I wonder if the Isles moves in the offseason have rendered Avery and Hollweg ineffective?

I'll bite!

I am going to say no. Hollweg hits and hits hard and does not discriminate. So what would stop him? The thought of getting it back? If you watch the Rangers you know for the most part many guys on the team take a licking and keep on ticking.

As for Avery, it may actually work more in his favor. He goats anybody and does not care. Now you have even more guys on your team that want to say that they won't take it right? So if he does what he is good at will it actually hurt the Islanders more?

Outlook: No team was gutted more than the Isles during the off-season. Gone are six of the club's top 10 scorers from last season, as well as two of their top three defensemen. It's going to be a long year on Long Island.

Hollweg would be an idiot to go out and antagonize the Islanders and hit indiscriminatly. But that's not what he does. He hits indiscriminatly dirty.

And the game on Monday night it SEVERELY backfired. The Rangers wound up blowing a 4-1 lead. If anything, those antics sparked the Islanders and gave them life.

Doing that stuff against a team that gets a lift off the rough stuff is stupid.

OK Caesar I tried. Reading your comments here and over on the Islanders blog it is obvious you are looking to get into it.

So, Why would Hollweg be an idiot. Give us reasons, not that you think so because the Islanders are so "deep" and "tough" this year. Tell us reasons, support it.

That whole game was a joke and far from a real game you will watch this season. I know the Rangers lost right? They blew it? What will you say tomorrow if the Islanders get destroyed on the score board? Simon didn't dress? DP didn't dress? We can do that back and forth about monday to if you would like!

I would rather not.

I am glad you think highly of your team. Wouldn't expect less but, the deepest? the toughest? they feed off it? You know you are watching pre-season hockey right now right?

So come back with reasons to why Avery and Hollweg can't be affective against the Isles please. Then we can talk.

I didn't get past the first grade.

yeah we did blow a 4-1 lead. With wittman in net.

exactly, the Islander fan is still proud of scoring 4 goals against a 6th string goalie.

Sadly he believes it's a rhetorical question. Caesar will not consider anything you have to say, regardless of how much sense you make.

I bet if you check his posts a week ago, you’ll find something from Caesar saying pre-season doesn’t count for anything. Now he thinks the Islanders have the Rangers all figured out

"I wonder if the Isles moves in the offseason have rendered Avery and Hollweg ineffective?"

How is that? by becoming worse of a team the Islanders will be able to withstand two small pests?
