Peca interested in Rangers...

The Peca Watch:

At a charity golf tourney today, UFA Michael Peca told the Canadian Press:

''I think there been some interest (from the Rangers),'' said Peca, an 11-year NHL veteran. ''That would be a great fit. Is it going to happen? I'm not 100 per cent sure. We'll have to see."

The Leafs are interested as well, and former Islander Jason Blake has been lobbying him to return to Toronto, said Peca.

Again, as suggested the other day, if the money's right, I'd really like to see him in New York....

Marc Staal and I make great road roommates. He and I love a good Jack straight up after the morning skate and before we drive to the game.

How come you're so high on Peca? He has only played 80 or more games twice, has only ever played a full season once, and has had 7 seasons cut short by injury.

He gets hurt a lot and I think they would overpay for him when I think a call-up from Hartford would be better suited.

Not trying to start anything, but why Peca?

if this means Avery is traded, I like it.

Bring back NYR great Steve Rucchin!!!

Bring back intelligent hockey blogging please!!!!!

Damn I am so sick of you morons coming onto this blog and saying stupid crap or being imposters.

Holy shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit!!!!

Morons!!!

And, Im tired of all the Ranger fans focusing on silly topics like Avery. Everyone needs to get a life. Idiots.

Funny thing that I read these last posts. Im a huge Isles fan, but, I like to peruse the Ranger site for info. The fact that Peca could be a Ranger is intriguing, but, in place of Avery NO WAY! I'd take avery on the island any day--although I hate him as a Ranger! Jim, if this is the Real Jim, I am confused so please enlighten me. Jim from Woodbury is all over the Islander website blog, trashing the islanders. And, although its embellished crappola sometimes, the poster is obviously a Ranger fan. Posts about the Ranger farm team could only be a Ranger fan. So, are you playing the give-take game and avenging the childish intruders on your fav blog? Or, is a lunatic Ranger fan using your name? I have read your stuff on this blog before and you know alot--all the way down to the farm team. As an Islander fan, Im concerned about the Soundtigers depth and what we can tap moving forward. The rangers farm system seems deeper, (yes, i know some isles fan will tell me to scratch myself blah blah). How many guys in the farm system for the rangers are close to NHL status and where is the upside capped..IE. 2nd line , 3rd etc..Islander fans like me love a guy like Bergenheim, but, saying he's a 1 or 2 guy is ignorant. In sum, if you are posting at isles blog, just stop. If not, then get that Ranger fan under control or these blogs will be useless. I expect a score of "1984"s as a response, but, Im hoping a ranger fan can be mature here. Zipay does a solid job.

Timmy, dont try the kiss arse game on this blog. I'll write what I like , when I like. The facts are simple: the Rangers have a good team, the Fishsticks are a mess. Dont come here with your whining faggola.

I don't get it either. Why even consider bring Peca at all. This is not building, this is buying.

dennis- i have no idea how "deep" the Ranger farm system is. But, its a long season. Why not sprinkle some farm team talent into the mix and let the team gel. Why bother with peca? He clearly is at the end of his career, and I dont see his roile lacking in Manhattan. Honestly, as an Islander fan I dont want him back, and I like Peca. he simply is not that good now.

Tim C,

A lunatic is using my name. He will absolutely not quit doing it, don't believe anything from Jim from Woodbury anymore, and now he is using Real Jim, and after this post he will use just Jim.

Just hoping Newsday comes through with someway to stop this kind of crap.

It's really easy to be a tough guy on a blog eh Mr. Imposter?

you are such a loser it isn't even funny

Tim C,

I think the Rangers are really going to go for it this year, they already are sacrificing 2.5 million of next year's cap in bonuses to have Shanahan back for one more year, which shows just how much they want it this year.

I don't necessarily agree with it, but I think that is part of the rationale of signing Peca. When healthy he is very competitive, a leader, great on faceoffs, great defensively.

The Rangers are putting a lot of eggs in the 2006-2007 basket, signing Peca would not suprise me.

Timbo and Dennis the Menace-if u watched hockey, you'd see that a defensive gem in Peca is invaluable, as is his faceoff talent. Peca shuts down lanes better than ANY forward and against some tough offensive opponents in the division, he'd be great. The question is , at what cost? You idiots focus on peca, Avery etc...its what they are worth. So, why dont you both learn the game before you waste our time here. Geez!!! I deal with imposters and idiots all day. C'mon.......!!!!

dude, post your email address if you have a pair, or are u chicken?

???

you gonna post it?

too much of a pu$$y???

I agree the Rangers are going for it. Why not? Goaltending can be the best in thee NHL, the power play will be devastating. I quess I wonder about a farm system in this regard- If you dont bring up a capable guy from hartford, does it hurt his progress to stay in the minors? Are you sacraficing the young talent by riding old guys? My take on the Ranger call up's last year was pretty positive. They even got Isbister to play pretty well, something an isles fan like me suffered through. As for imposters, time to grow up. Go to the Sesame Street site guys...

My email is JimsGay@aol.com

Tim C,

I defintely agree with what you are saying. There is no doubt Nigel Dawes deserves full time NHL duty this coming season. He made the team last year out of camp but was used poorly and was sent down.

At this point, even with the trading of Cullen, doesn't look like there is room for him, so if they added Peca, it definitely looks like another year in the AHL for him and that would absolutely be wrong.

Wont post the email, huh? Im ready to fight. My wife said its okay to go to the bowling alley and brawl as long as Im back before 9pm. I have an early shift at Taco Bell tomorrow and the manager has been pissed at me lately. I'm slippery btw, literally. Got a full body wax and Im ready to roll. Wanna fight? C'mon...Im Jim from Woodbury and Im a tough guy. My Mom said Im strong. Very strong.

"My email is JimsGay@aol.com"

figures, LOL

you wussbag

Ok, but , does another season in the AHL HURT a guy, or simply delay his NHL progress by a year (in the case of Dawes)? Can to many years of AHL play cause bad habits that are irreversible once the NHL comes a calling?

Imposter, what you are on your way to doing is actually making it so bad they are going to take these blogs down.

What would you possibly do with your time all day if that happens?

Tim- another season in the AHL is good for Dawes development. With all due respect, do you watch hockey? head to the other blog schmucko.

Tim C and the Really Real Jim,
I truely agree with both of you. It's hard to say, but I would much rather give that ice time to someone the Rangers have been developing than sign it over to Peca. I like Peca, he's great when healthy. But I really feel he isn't the right fit. If paying someone to come in and fill those shoes is that important, maybe they could find a younger healther kid?
For 9 long yrs I've suffered, we have suffered. Sather and the Gang made a public promise to the fans to stop this behavior and grow from within. That's what I believe to be the best way to have a steady winning team from season to season. The team is doing this with the new promotions. But talking about Peca, well, it's starting to look more like the old team again.
There are some really talented kids ready for 20-30-40 games. Cycle them in. If it means wins every so often than I'll be ok with that. We might just get a better look at what is really going on in Hartford.
I would like to see Immonen fill that role. But hey, what do I know, he's gone to the europe.
It's not like I'll stop watching what ever way it goes.
Like our new friend the fake -gaf- friend Jim. It really is a wonderful to have such diversity here, momo's , other fans of other teams... it's super!
Way to go fake Jim dude/chick. I'm sure you and Gordo are the best of friends.

Also, I am totally into the Duran Duran show if anyones game??How bout it Timothy?

Haha, nice loser. Go play your D+D game. Or you could shuve that 20 sided dice up you arse! oh, no look out it's a mega nerd with a keyboard posting so he can have someone to talk to. Hey, you pig of a wife is calling, she needs her feed bag!

Again, does anyone here want to talk blueshirts? Or do we want to throw around stupid comments about people's orientation or who they are actually fans of?
Dang. I hope Darcy signs Peca back in Buffalo, or better yet, or the sticks sign him. For Pete's freakin sake! He's injury prone! Glen will pay him 3-4 million, put the blueshirts to the cap and not have the guy for the playoffs. The last season Peca played good was that beautiful run the buffaslugs had and lost the cup on the blown call on a dumb rule. Just go back to buffalo and sell your stupid pickles. Don't worry about broadway Michael. New York and the media will eat you alive.

Dan, I'm with you 100%. I'll keep my remarks for the Islanders and Devil blogs.

Oh, and I agree on Peca too.
Well, that makes 3 for no Peca.

I'm guessing Avery is asking for a very large amount of money but still, I really do not want Peca on this team.

Jim, Real Jim, Really real Jim, and Jim from woodbury. Dennis, Dan, and Tim C even..

You are definitely very funny and you know you stuff hockey wise - well rounded and thanks for the laughs!!

Denny
That stings...getting lumped in with the fake guy? If I had feelings, they'd hurt.

realist- stop blowing smoke up our asses.

Gordo- any possibility you could call me tonight?

Is Sather actually going to wait for arbitration with Avery? He needs to sign him long term 3 or 4 year deal. Arbitration could be a big mistake.

NO PECA !!! Does anyone really think he would get along with Jagr?

Peca would provide leadership and a solid checking 3rd center. If the Rangers are going to go for it, why not get him to provide more depth and he can be a good second line center too if either drury or Gomez gets hurt. He can also give some ranger defensemens how to finally learn how to play the right defense.
The price has to be right though. No way over more than a million for one year.

Gordo, the next time I will respond to anything else you have to say around here will be a goal # 37. That will be only to get the link of you eating your hat. Then, and only then, will you redeem yourself and become a man by sticking to your word, which is worthless to me at this point! So try to find someone else to bother during your quiet evenings home alone.
Good Day Sir

Why is it so important for them to go for it this yr? Wouldn't it be more realistic to win a division title first, and then go for it? This team has a few more holes to fill before the Cup can be won in NY. They sure as heck have a little growing to do before they're ready for a cup series.
Barbara brings up a good point; If Jagr is upset with Nylander leaving, could Peca be any help to his mood. And we all know Jagr is moody. Peca is known for stirring things up. Is it worth the chance of agitating Jagr to the point that it effects his game, or even worse, a trade? This is not the time to draw up a new game plan. Stick to the one that seems to be working and everything will be ok.
Ken, if a million is the number, than it'll be hard for any team to say no to Peca's abilities. I'm hearing 2.5 is what he needs to keep what he already has.
No PECA!!!

Why go for it? Geez! Such a dumb question. This blog blows.

Jim,
Do you want a bunch of hired mercs, or would you like to have something to be a little more proud of. For yrs Rangers were hiring the big guns and coming up short. We, Yankee fans hear this all over the world.
I want the Rangers to win, I want them to be the best every yr. But I don't want what comes after a Cup win...
things like "oh, they bought the cup" "Well they sure paid a pretty price for it"
You aren't hearing these things about the Ducks this summer. They grew a great team, filled in the best blueline in history, maybe.
Is that something you want to listen to after 13yrs. 9 yrs of them being in the basement? I'm sure you don't. Peca isn't the answer to winning a cup. He isn't the "be almighty" formula to winning the cup. He really isn't anything but a risk.
Now lets say Peca is a Ranger and 10 months from now Peca is the reason the Rangers win a cup. Well, I'm wrong. You're right and all is done. No more talk about 1 in 70yrs. But that isn't going to stop the true haters out there from coming up with the same old "stuff" they always come up with. But let's not help them. Pride. We as fans have it, the Rangers Org seem to have it. Will the players? Will the players that are hired for one yr have it. (Shanny not included)

I think the goal of going after the Cup is way to soon. Lets see what Feb brings first.

Avery MUST STAY A BLUESHIRT!
He is a perfect fit for NY and this team. Don't you remember when he first came here? He ignited this team in a way that's been missing for a long time. He's only effective when he plays HIS GAME. Tenacious, checking, throwing the body around, and totally getting under opposing players nerves and skin-(Remember Esa). Playing just like Tikanin, where you get the best opposing players off of their game because they're focused on you. I used to hate Avery when he was in LA, but usually when you hate somebody on another team, that means you'd love him if he was on yours. Pretty much how I used to feel like Kasper. I hated him when he was a Fishstick, but when he came to the Rags with his trademark hipchecks, I loved him! As far as Avery, SIGN HIM ALREADY! I remember when he first came here, he said "I think I have finally found a home"-where my teamates and the fans love me, and the feeling is mutual." He has said he loves it here in NY, and loves the Rangers organization. THOSE ARE THE PLAYERS YOU WANT ON YOUR TEAM, THOSE THAT WANT TO BE HERE, and not just for the money. That's another reason I'm really excited about Drury. He was a Ranger fan as a kid growing up in Connecticut, so to become a Ranger finally, it's a dream come true for him, which means he will play with his heart and sole every night. I wouldn't mind having Peca as a 3rd line center, but not at the cost of anybody losing their jobs, or not for crazy money either. But back to my point, NY wasn't his first choice, so if he does come here, how big will his heart and sole be in the game? I think they should've tried to keep Cullen, for even though they got one of the best 1/2 punch centers in the game in Drury/Gomez, getting rid of Cully, all of a sudden they have a hole to fill for 3rd line center.
Can't wait for the season to start already.
LETS GO RANGERS!!!!!

I heard Avery wants 10 mil in 4yrs. That sounds like a bargin.

I dont think there's any spot for Peca, especially at the expense of Avery. Peca's health is a huge question mark at this point his career. No thanks!

The Anti-Peca parade is on!
Just Say No To Peca(JSN2P)

What are you guys talking about? Peca taking a spot away from Avery? We need a 3rd line center, which Peca would be perfect for-(if the money is right and he doesn't take away a job from a kid). Avery is a winger, not a center.

I did'nt mean "spot" as a center but more contract for contract and Avery has played center at times in his career

Thank you KevLev. Peca does not take a spot from Avery. Peca fills the spot Cullen filled. Cullen was not a defensive specialist - Peca is, and could be used like Sergei Nemchinov was used by the Devils. People forget 1996-97 and 2001-02 Peca won the Frank J. Selke Trophy. Those with a little hockey knowledge know that to win a Cup you NEED a player like this to shut down the other team - especially when you play on the road and they try to put out their number one line against someone other than Jagr or Shanny.

I deal with imposters and idiots! Look, we have to go for it with Jagr in the twilight of his career(sather too). Stop whining.

Some guy here think that Avery playing center full time is a solution to filling in that 3rd line center postion. At least that's what I'm getting from this.

Does someone have an idea how they think the lines will be matched up?

i think if it's for the right money and only 1 year signing peca would be a great move. peca will get injured and that's when the younger guys will get a chance to fill in. plus if drury or gomez go down peca can step up a line and there's no pressure on a younger player to fill in on a top two line.

a lil fun with line combos and the question marks can be filled by peca or any of the younger guys. i think avery is best as a winger along with straka and therefore would prefer to keep them there.

Straka/Hossa-Gomez-Jagr
Prucha/Straka-Drury-Shanny
Avery-???-Callahan
Prucha/Hossa-Betts-Orr/Hollweg

That all you had to say - you gnikcuf gaf-
Hey everyone, Jim From Woodbury thinks the reason the Rags are going for it is because Jagr is in his twilight. Way to go MR. Obvious I don't think I thought of that one. I guess the next time I ask a question I should just be looking for elohssa!

Brian,
My thoughts exactly. To win the Cup, you need a "dedicated" line to shut down the opposing #1. This way, you're not "wasting" your #1 line playing against them, for it would make your scorers forced to play strictly defense, or if you want to risk it, play a run-and-gun style back and forth with the other teams top line. If you have a dedicated checking/defensive line(which I think Peca would be perfect for), that leaves your 2 scoring lines facing less talented lines on the other teams.

Yes, Jim, quite the insight. You are a GENIUS. Schmucko.

Geez guys- it ain't that hard. I like the idea of homegrown talent. But, whatever it takes to win this year. Don't make me long for the gay imposter!

"Geez guys it ain't that hard." Don't make me long for the gay imposter!

Peca has to be cheaper than Cullen... right?

my site:
http://blue-review.blogspot.com/

Real clever moron--post your email address!! Afraid?!

Jim, thanks, but I'm not gay.

Woodbury,
Don't you think that you kind of bring this on yourself?

Dennis, was I speaking to you?

This is the first time I have posted today, the imposter has been talking to himself all day.

Everyone of these posts today have been from this moron.

He is a hockey blog terrorist.

I would like him to post his email address instead of being a pu$$y about it so we can have a conversation that you folks don't have to be subjected to.

Dennis,

As an isles fan-I've read the Rangers blog as well as the Isles blog for a while now. In all honesty, while I don't/haven't always agreed with his comments-Jim (the real Jim) has been a good sensible poster that I don't think has brought on having a persistant imposter.

The imposter seems hell-bent on destroying the talk on your blog, and to a lesser extent the Isles one as well. I'd assume it a school-child out for the summer, with no life. By september 1st he will be gone most likely. Hopefully Newsday will start using logins to lock out imposters.

Peca must want four million to play for that joke Dolan team in a half-filled garden unless 5,000 ISLANDER FANS SHOW UP AND TAKE OVER THE PLACE.....

RAG CONTRACTION NOW AND FOREVER...

NYC IS ISLANDER COUNTRY

YOU CAN'T BEAT US..

YOU'LL NEVER BEAT US...

There were some comments from Dennis about thinking that the Rangers are going for it this year, etc...

I am not saying I agree with it, I would not sign Peca, and I agree, I would rather see where we are in February than just declare we are contenders now.

I was just speaking to give my opinion of how I think the Rangers are thinking.

I think the Rangers are putting all their eggs in one basket this season, how else do you explain sacrificing 2.5 million dollars in next year's cap to give Brendan Shanahan bonuses?

Our future is very bright, we have lots of young talent and Drury and Gomez for a long time, but Shanny, Jagr and Straka, this year may be it for all of them.

I think the thinking is, bring Peca in as a veteran leader in going for it all.

"NYC IS ISLANDER COUNTRY

YOU CAN'T BEAT US..

YOU'LL NEVER BEAT US..."

Ummm, yes we did, yes we will and you are the ultimate moron R.C.

Cherepanov could have been an Islander R.C.!!!!!!!!!

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!!!!

Dynasty,

thank you

The guy is crazy, if Newsday isn't going to do anything about it, just have to hope he gets tired of doing it eventually.

Islander fans are so ignorant.

wow, Oilers signed Penner to offer sheet

http://tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=214708&hubname=

"NYC IS ISLANDER COUNTRY"
Obviously this guy hasn't been to the Garden. MSG is sold out 99% of the time, wether the Rags are in 1st place, or last place. And not for nothing, but the last time I was at a Ranger/Fishstick game at the "Mussilium", there were more Ranger fans there than Isles. MSG has the most loyal, knowledgeable, and best fans in the world. You go to that craphouse in Nassau, and you're risking losing your life by having the scoreboard land on you! But since they can't put a decent product on the ice, now worries, there's the beutiful "Ice Girls" that you could look at........

Writing about Peca and Dawes.

No need for Peca, old, injury prone and thats all I need to know. Do not need to go back to the rangers of the early 2000's. As for Dawes, I cant understand how great he can be in the AHL and how awful he was at the NHL level. After watching him for a few games at the garden, he got pushed around so much I do not blame Renney for pulling him out. At the AHL level, he kicks ass! I dunno but I say give it another shot this year.

Anyways for 07-08, this could very well be the year if our defense can play well infront of the King Henrik. We cant expect a one mans show every game. Also, hopefully Jagr will try for the whole season as oppose to just the last 20 games and the playoffs.

Mike G,

How could you say that about Dawes?

He wasn't even given real at chance at the NHL level.

Renney used him horribly last season when he was up.

Dawes is 5'9" but sturdy---his Junior performance for the Canadien team was unreal. With less clutching and fighting, Dawes will be a star in 2 years.

"I dont think there's any spot for Peca, especially at the expense of Avery...
What are you guys talking about? Peca taking a spot away from Avery?"

They are talking about cap space. If Peca gets signed for a few mil (which he will), they don't have enough to give Avery what he wants. If they don't sign Avery and Hossa it might be worth it to deal them to a basement team for a first pick in next years draft. I keep hearing that there is supposed to be tons of talent in next years draft and high pics are going to come at a premium. I personally think that they should sign both of them, but if they are not going to have cap room for them they should trade their contract rights while their stock is high and maybe they can get a couple of good picks out of them rather than some aging, over paid, long contract vet.

didn't say it, moron trying to sound reasonable

They should trade Orr if he has any worth.

Im not me. Idiot trying to sound like he knows hockey.

Jeissman is the bust, Dawes is a player

Dynasty and Real Jim,
I don't agree with Jim's idea of what Peca will bring to the team. Ok, let's move on.
Jim started todays post by calling people idiots. It's in black and white above. I could care less who the imposter is, even that he exists. But if you're going to insult people, well, expect the worst. But if we ignore this trouble maker, well he will get bored and move on like you said. Or find himself another fat person to F. Whatever really. I come to this blog for the info, opinions and other crazy hockey fans that I don't have sitting around me all day long like I would prefer. Not to be insulted for my opinion, which is why we are all here... right?
ok... now
if you come out of the box, throwing punches it's only a matter of time that someone is going to start messing with you... agreed?
Now I am 100% against this talk of being contenters. I stand on the firm ground that building these positions from the farm team is important. I will not change my stance on this issue. the last few teams that have won the cup were teams that brought in the talent in Feb, and the rest were pretty much grown from with in (expect Pronger off the top of my head). Even the teams that go the distance and fail, have been teams with good young talented players. Home Grown.
Now, as for the imposter. You win. Winner. Yeah! Could you please leave this blog so we can do what we all came here to do, talk hockey.

Respectfully,
Den

Dennis-I apologize for the idiot comment. I just get frustrated with the BS. I agree the farm system is key. But, missing pieces for winners cost $$. Thats reality.

lol, the imposter has hit a new low.

avery / peca debate...it's a no-brainer to keep avery over getting peca. avery has those intangibles EVERY team needs. think tikkanen from '94. wether he scores, hits, fights or "cheapshots" someone he is a very important piece here. he is worth cullen money IMO. he dosent have the most talent, but he's valuable in so many ways...and for the record, if the isle fans had him on there team, they sure as hell wouldnt be spewin the b.s. about him.

i like peca and what he brings, but he's older and injury prone. he is the perfect 3rd line center, but it will be truly "overpaying" (unlike gomer & drury) if he comes here.

let jagr and his blue power ranger guy, show his face again!

He knows no lows.

I'm with you Jim. The stuff that goes on around here is at times just silly. I will not attack, unless attacked. I'm sure you feel the same way.
Now-
I think that there might be someone a little less qaulified, that just might be able to step up to the plate. I talking about someone outside our system. Who, is my new question. who else can fill that role, that will not cost a ton of money but will be able to provide good PK, and get under the skin of other teams. I've been going ove rthe UFA list and I think that Glen Metropolit (sp?) might be a little better of a fit. But truthfully I don't really know. I do know he'll be cheaper than Peca, not as injurey prone as Peca, and I think is a little faster than Peca.
For the record I only saw them(Atl) play the Ranger with Metropolit last 3 times I think. (Traded to ST. Louis) Might have been only twice. I didn't see any St Louis games with Metropolit either. But his numbers are good. He's solid and strong. He's been around the block, and is looking for a new home. Not like Peca who's first choice is Buf. But looking for a new home all together.
Can you give me someone else other than Peca, that will be cheaper, and be able to fill those holes?
I open this question to everyone.

Respecfully
Den

Surprising Dennis, I agree with you...Metropolit is a good little player. I've liked him from his day on the Caps. I don't know if he would be cheaper than Peca but Vasicek could be a pleasant surprise. He's big and I always thought he should have better numbers than he does...careful, though...he could turn into that dud Kvasha, tools but no toolbox.
On a cheaper end, Jan Bulis could be a good plug-in for the time being. He's fiesty.

Dennis- Id say staying put is best and lets see come trade deadline. All this Avery talk drives me mad. Peca will sign in Toronto .
