Maloney and Mess

Thanks Nick, and others, I had already changed my "Toronto Sun" ref to "Edmonton", and as you probably know, Terry Jones is a Mess family pal.

For the sake of accuracy, Sather spoke to all the New York beat writers and others one night after the hoo-hah. It was in the Meadowlands and we all reported his silence on Maloney. As they say, you can look it up.

One other clarification: I wrote "discovered AND developed." Of course, European players were scouted by others and Renney did scouting as well. In fact, Renney said on breakup day that he would be making some trips this summer.

And there's no doubt that Maloney has been slogging to Hartford and elsewhere regularly in the last few years, keeping tabs on the salary issues, the prospect landscape, and has been a presence at the draft and on trade deadlines.

Sure, he's made some mistakes. But he's a key figure in the organization who seems to be getting the shaft, which is really unfortunate.

i'm waiting?

I love Mess but Maloney has really paid his dues...I mean most of the time he basically seems to be running the team, especially when Slats is off fishing or chilling at his vacation home - which seemingly is just about every time something important needs to get done.

I would love to have Mess be the GM or Coach of the Rangers one day but Maloney deserves first shot at the title.

Maloney has done all the work the last 4 years to get this organization to where it is today.

He has drafted a lot better, he knows the game and he knows how to build a team. Look at what he did with the Islanders all the players he drafted.

Who knows if Messier is going to be a godo coach or not? Let him go to Hartford and coach there or be the GM there.

Gretz is not doing such a great job in the desert. They are struggling in Pheonix. Lindy Ruff was a great player, but he is a good coach. Great players don't make great coaches.

I listened to an interview during the playoffs between periods that Dave Maloney had with Don.

I came away so impressed by Maloney. He detailed that this organization has a 5 phase plan for restructuring the organziation, and was only in phase 2 of the plan, so the successful playoff run this year was a bit of a nice suprise.

I love the way the direction of the organization is going right now, and I have absolutely no confidence that Mark Messier will come here and keep us going in the right direction.

Does he have a vision of what the team will look like several years down the road, what are his plans about dealing with the slary cap year after year? What are his plans regarding player development?

To me, I think this organization needs to get way beyond the Edmonton old boys network, one of the best things to happen to the organization in recent times is Messier finally retiring.

I have no interest in Messier being a GM, and I certainly have no interest in him coaching, our coach, Tom Renney, has done a tremendous job.

Renney doesn't get enough credit for all he has done the last two years, I absolutely see no reason for him to go.

Huh?

i agree Jim. the rangers organization should not be a platform for Mess to try out his coaching/developing/management skills.

AGREED! Mess, thanks for everything but stay away from the front office and bench. Go cut your teeth somewhere else and possibly return with some experience.

wasnt maloney GM for the isles?..it didnt work out well. mess is a fierce leader in EVERYTHING he's done so far. front office would be no different. he wouldnt do anything to tarnish his standing in hockey or the ranger organization. as long as he keeps up with times, he would be fine. look at kevin lowe in edmonton, he's done a heckuva job out there. mess would take a look at his success and draw from that. i dont see mess starting in the minors at all, no way - no how....how was he with renney as a player?..i agree renney should stay for years, he's an excellent coach. but if him and mess clashed together then, it could cause issues.

slats have never gotten enough credit here. this years moves are proof (avery, mara, etc). he's done an excellent job SINCE the lock-out. pre-lockout was long ago, even then he was ok i think. i have confidence he'll do the right thing, with or without maloney.

Jimbo - You're impressed with Maloney? The guy who thinks the Rangers had a successful playoff run this year? Maybe you both missed headlines last week... THE RANGERS LOST IN THE 2ND ROUND. And the only reason they made it that far is because of a quirk in the playoff format that allowed them a virtual 1st round bye. Otherwise they would have played the 'real' 3rd seed team - the Senators. Result? NO 2ND ROUND FOR YOU!!! And BTW... the Rangers finished with a worse record than last year and only 3 points away from missing the playoffs altogether. So the defacto GM thinks this year was a success. Guess again.

osama?..nice... were at war, and ur promoting a terrorist on a HOCKEY forum. u have takin low lifeness to a new level. maybe u should go suicide bomb urself, ya freak...u have to have better things to do than hunt and stalk som1 on a hockey blog. ur a sick d****e and should be admitted.

lol at 3 points. half the leauge was within 3 points of each other. it musta sucked beein an islander fan and havin to face buffalo in the 1st round. maybe if ur players kept there cool (simon), instead of slashing ppl across the face costing ur team THE MOST IMPORTANT GAME OF YOUR SUCKY SEASON, you woulda played atlanta instead. altho seein that ur endorsing osama bin laden, u probably approve of wat simon did...so were thrilled to beat the lowly thrashers. and we give a very special thanks to chris simon and the islanders....at least u have alexei yashin's buy out to look forward too.

You can bet Isles fans would have a far different tune had they beaten Atlanta in the first round, but who's to say they would've?

They probably would have lost and then Isles fans would have cried about having the old format.

Point of all of this is, is the Rangers are heading in the right direction and I don't really wanna see any changes made. Stability and an organizational plan.

It is why they didn't mortgage the future to try and make a more definitive run and try and win now.

If we had traded Marc Staal, Al Montoya and a #1 pick at the deadline for Ryan Smyth, would we have been a better team?

Sure, but we still wouldn't have win the Cup and still probably wouldn't have beaten Buffalo.

We did better in the playoffs than 3 teams who severely mortgaged their future at the deadline. (Nashville, Atlanta and the Islanders)

This organization is trying to build a team that will contend for years and not make a foolhardy attempt by trading assets for a run for one.

Robert Nilsson alert:

The playoffs ended for Wilkes Barre last night.

In 11 AHL playoff games, Robert had 3 goals and 12 assist for 15 points.

He obviously sucks Isles fans.

Hey tj - Don't get your underwear in a bunch. It's just a name. And it's an appropriate name, I might add, since your boy Jimbo accused me of being a "terrorist" because I provided the smoking gun evidence that he'd posted to the Islander blog just days prior to his rant against Islander fans for posting to the Ranger blog. And those posts from Islander fans that he was so upset about were simply responding to his knee-jerk, unprovoked tirade toward the Islanders in response to the Rangers melt down to end the Sabre series. So, just doing what's needed to expose old Jimmy for the whimp he is.

Hey Jimmy - FYI, Wilkes Barre is MINOR LEAGUE HOCKEY. Let Nilsson post similar numbers in the NHL (along with a decent +/-) and we can talk.

lol osama...u truly are a maniac. u continue to make urself look like a wacko more and more...if he did post there, wat is the big deal. isnt it possible that som1, like u have, used his name while posting there? ur to dumb to realize that i guess..i got something for u to admit..how bout u admit that ur a freak with no life that STALKS and HUNTS ppl on a hockey blog for no reason watsoever. give it up dipchit and make a valid HOCKEY point for once in ur life.

You know it would be nice if someone would post something on here that made sence. Most of the time i read this stuff and its like Huh?

barbara i ask myself the same thing with this guy osama...HE NEVER MAKES ANY SENSE!

Hey tj - better watch out. I'm gonna 'stalk' and 'hunt' you next!!! ROTFLMAO. I'm watching you!!! LOL.

Lighten up, Francis.

"Hey tj - better watch out. I'm gonna 'stalk' and 'hunt' you next!!! ROTFLMAO. I'm watching you!!! LOL."

I that a threat?

Maybe we can have Newsday hunt you down by your IP address?

"Hey Jimmy - FYI, Wilkes Barre is MINOR LEAGUE HOCKEY. Let Nilsson post similar numbers in the NHL (along with a decent +/-) and we can talk"

Yeah thanks, I had already realized that the AHL was minor league hockey, appreciate you looking out though.

Spezza had great numbers in the AHL too, hence my rationale for saying that I would be weary Isles fans of Nilsson becoming the next Spezza in your lives.

You know, a young guy developing with you guys instead of becoming a star on another team.

Spezza and Chara for Yashin....Spezza and Chara for Yashin.....Spezza and Chara for Yashin.....ooooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

jim and tj, do you realize that you are at fault for CONTINUING these flamewars even though you didnt start them? stop sinking to their level and let it go already.

The dumbest part of the whole thing, is how is there a smoking gun when you can post under whatever name you want. Maybe, just maybe, somebody posted over there with Jims name! Wow, what a retard.

i agree anno, but he continues the non-sense. if there was a reason for it, i'd let it go. he's beein a dyck and needs to be called out.

WIW has it right, just numbnuts dosent realize it. or he posted it there to start some kinda war, for wat ever reason. altho, osama would explain that.

i wish it was a HOCKEY forum, but he wont let it be.

no, he doesn't need to be called out. calling him out just continues it. you can't win. give them nothing to respond to, and they'll go away.
