Renney's remarks: "No prisoners. Go."

Jed Ortmeyer is back in, Ryan Hollweg out, which means Brad Isbister in his for the second straight game, because Rangers head coach Tom Renney believes he "can spend a little more time with the puck on the wall, in the corners, and in back of the net." D Michal Rozsival (left knee) also will play...

More from Renney's pre-game comments:

"We've been practicing long enough for one at a time...It's all about just winning this game...That's what this game is all about, backing the opponent off, giving them some uncertainty."

On momentum:

"I said to the guys, 'We might have momentum right now, don't underestimate that. We played a good game in Buffalo we made some mistakes, there are other areas of our game that we can sort of camoflauge that we played real well, but me, I do believe we have some momentum based on and we have to identify wih that. It's no prisoners. Go."

On matching lines:

"I will to a degree and if I'm having success. I'll keep doing it. I want to be as much of a moving target today as I think I need to be . Get everybody in early and keep a rhythm going and try to keep them off balance...
The one thing I don't want to do is outcoach myself. What I do like about Drury against Jagr, when that lines on, there's other lines on the bench, maybe they minimize their offensive output by doing that. We just have to play hard have to play smart, our third and fourth lines may have to score goals differently, but they're capable of that.

On whether the team needs to score three goals to win:

"Not if Henrik gets a shutout. He's capable of that. If we can hold these guys to under 20 shots and maybe limit the degree of the chance in those prime scoring areas, we've got a chance. You never say you're gonna shut out the Buffalo Sabres, that's kind of idiotic, he is capable of pulling off great games."

On being physical:

"We'll be as physical as we need to be. One thing Buffalo has has done well is take the body on us not at the expense of position... We've got to be physical when we get the chance as well."

On Sean Avery:

"Maybe he'll get jacked up here. It's not that he's been a bad player at all, we're playing one of the very best teams in the league, so there's gonna be guys who are somewhat stifled and you've got to manufacture different ways and means to have success, Sean's gotta do that. I know he'll be plugged into the crowd.".

On Malik's turnover on the tying goal in Game 2:

"We had 30 seconds (a talk) in the hallway. He's a veteran NHL player that certainly plays the game better than I ever could. He understands wehre pucks have to go. He tried a play that would have been a great play, an outstanding play. It was a tough play, one of those, you see the play and make it. Harry thought this, and it was close. Close against the Buffalo Sabres isn't going to beat them. Again, if that pass in on Michael's (Nylander) stick, it's a helluva play. It cost us. but other things cost us as well. We're not hanging this on Harry (Malik) at all."

Malik does not know where pucks need to go! He's been doing the same thing for 2 years. Get him out of here.

Take no prisoners, Tom? Nice Try!

THE RANGERS SUCK!

HERE COMES THE BROOM!

Wow, maybe Isle fans were right. This is sickening how Buffalo gets every single call.

agreed, a goal overturned, Jagr's soft tripping call, no hooking calls on Buffalo. It's getting a bit ridiculous and obvious that the league want Buffalo to win. i was a little skeptical when the Isles brought this up, but its pretty apparent politics is playing a huge role in the NHL now.

Thankfully the refs cant score on Hank. I fully expect them to try and kick one past him in this third period.

YES!!!!!!!

Great win for the Rangers. Thought they would be down coming home 2- but they proved me wrong. Good job.

Go (home) Sabers !!

So much for the broom you clown !!!
This town for losers got every conceivable call against the Islanders and the trend is continuing against the Rangers.

Enjoy our Presidents Trophy because that's all the hardware your Sabers will win this year.

Forget about next year because Drury or Briere will be gone.

sweet justice!!...they deserved to win today, and friday. looks like the rangers have outplayed them for the last 2 games. looks like the sabre fans brooms have a hole in it...however with the refs and the LEAUGE on there side, they will be tough to beat..so sad to see a great sport, turn into such a mockery...

p.s.- any1 see dvorski's, "distinct" kicking motion when he waved the goal off...funny how that made rachuneks "distinct" kicking motion look legit. also, som1 tell me how a player gets called for a cross check, when he has 1 hand on his stick?

just curious...with all the calls buffalo is getting, are they trying to make up for that brett hull goal a few yrs ago?

The refs weren't to blame for that call on the Rachunek no-goal. That was the league office in Toronto that made the call. The refs had called it a goal. What they need to do is having a former player up in that office. Because it was obvious Rachunek was simply trying to stop before slamming into the crossbar and didn't "kick" it in. Trust me, he aint that good ;-)

That said... AWESOME WIN!

i know toronto made the call, maybe m. peca is in that booth..wishin he was still with buffalo.

dear haters,

please put your brooms away. this one is going at least five.

love,
rangers fans and readers of this blog

Robby,

the refs weren't to blame on the goal being waived off, but they were to blame for not calling a penalty on the damn play.

Why wasn't Rachunek's stick on the ice? Because he was being effing held the whole way in. Absolutely ridiculous that it wasn't a penalty.

It is so bad that I think it deserves a review. The Isles got an explanation of their crappy calls too the next day and we certainly deserve that as well.

Every single goal review goes to the Sabres and it's borderline criminal at this point.

The penalties called all day on the Rangers and the penalies let go on the Sabres WAS criminal.

The Rangers had to play against the Sabres, the refs and the review judges today and WON.

Couldn't be more proud of them today.

We've outplayed them two straight games now.Miller is due for a poor outing...he can't keep this up.Win Tuesday night and the pressure is on them to hold court at home.
And to the Isles fans who were looking for the sweep,
just enjoy your golf guys.

reminder:
Playoff records 2007

RANGERS 5-2
Isles 1-4

dear sabre fans who have nothing better to do than post on this site. SUCK ON THIS ONE. take the broom and shove it.

rangers win DESPITE every call going the other way. and if you think the refs got em right, watch the replays. no idea why the league is all hot and bothered over buffalo these days. the best thing that could ever happen to the NHL would be another championship out of NY to put them back in the spotlight. goodluck finding anyone who will get excited over the sabres.

Islander Fans: Looks like a beautiful day for golf.

I agree that the officiating was horrendous yesterday - I was there, and it should definitely be the last game that LaRue works this postseason - but just a kind note for my fellow fans: stop talking about the league wanting Buffalo to win. There's a nearby team whose front office and fans did the same thing, and it sounded tacky. Let's not do the same.

Great game yesterday, wasn't it? I agree there should have been a penalty on us when the puck was pushed in, your guy was clearly being hooked/held. Other than that I thought the refs did a good job. Both goalies were great, Jagr was a bear, he got better as the game got longer. Hopefully we'll pull out a win in game four & come back to Buffalo up 3-1.
