Sean Avery didn't skate this morning, but the four-deep media throng quickly clustered around him in the dressing room:
After several questions, a reporter asked if he would throttle back his game, Avery responded: "Next question, that's a stupid question...anyone else?"
Then, he added: "It's the playoffs, we're gonna play hard....we're going to go out and do our job."
MSG's Sam Rosen wondered if Avery would be on his best behavior because his mother would be at the game. Said Avery: "She likes it when I'm behaving poorly, she's used to it by now."

My thoughts exactly. I agree with Avery, that was indeed a stupid question. Wow you've guys have lost one game out of five, are you going to crawl into a ball and die? Ridiculous. The Rangers can and will win this series. Tonight they will win by two.
I don't see the Rangers pulling out tonight's game. Avery was awful last game at -3. There's always next year.

Avery has displayed many signs of emotional problems to say the least. I think Theo Fleury also suffers from the same problems. Theo's substance abuse is a symptom of deeper issues as is Avery's. He is probably suppressing his true sexuality.

About a month ago, I just assumed that DiPietro would be the odds on favorite to be Team USA's goalie going into 2010 in Vancouver. I thought Ryan Miller was a freekin Canadian! Now, I'm not so sure. Miller happens to be just a great traditional stay in the net goalie. He doesn't need to move the puck around like DP. And an American no less! DP has his work cut out for him. However, if the Rangers can stay out of the box tonite, they stand a chance. The Sabres were 1 for 8 on the PP on Wednesday! If the PP would have clicked, it would have been a real blow out! Go Blue!
End of the 1st. Rangers played a good agressive period. Holy Callahan! Where have the Rangers been hiding this guy! Did you see that hit on Rozsival. Playing with a bum knee, that had to freekin hurt! Good period. Good pressure, good discipline.
John Gianone just mentioned that it was Hossa out of position on that Buffalo PP. Normally, it's Jed Ortmeyer's position, but with Ryan Wollweg playing, Renney put Hossa on that PK line. If you watch the replay, you can see Blair Betts trying to tell Hossa get to the other side! Campbell was wide open!

I am actually remaining positive about it.
We completely dominated most of the game tonight, and played them very well in game 1 except for a 6 minute period of time.
Plus, even if we are eliminated, we still have our top 2 drafts picks which the Islanders do not have.
Oh yeah, and we have Al Montoya and Marc Staal who just happen to be the top two players in the world not playing in the NHL yet.

First goal Hossa out of position. Second goal the great Malik lazy pass up the middle score.
3rd goal Mara beat down low in coverage. Isbister was lost. Ortmeyer would have been better. I though Hollweg played a good game. Callahan's hit on Afinogenov in the 1st was awesome! Best hit of the game.
Actually the double joweled wonder I was after was Lindy Ruff. Can he finish a game without going into "WAAAAA" mode?

We definitely didn't get outplayed this game - Miller just stole it for them and we made a few bad mistakes. That's all it takes.
Time for a few adjustments:
1) Dress Pock. Rachunek has more playoff experience, but he has proven himself to be a liability. I said it all season, but now it _really_ matters. (I don't understand dressing Isbister for Ortmeyer either.)
2) Both of our goals were scored with traffic/confusion in front of Miller. It's not something we've done a whole lot of this season (or last), but now is the time to start. We're not beating Miller on clean shots. Also, there's no excuse for not converting at least one odd man rush (especially a 2-on-1).
3) Stop moving backward in your own zone. I'm all in favor of regrouping, but when the Buffalo forechecker is still in your zone, CLEAR THE PUCK. I don't mind a clearing attempt even if it's a straight turnover, as long as it's in the neutral zone. Our breakout is just not strong enough for us to deal with a forecheck. It's not the best situation to be in, sure, but it's time to deal with it already. No time for us to work on breakouts in practice - just GET THE PUCK OUT.
I'm also very disappointed in the Buffalo fans. I didn't want this series to be about hating them or their team - and it still isn't, because after all, this is a game - but they've shown themselves to be rather classless. I don't understand how you boo Jagr, one of the best players in the game. I don't understand how you can boo a superstar - especially one who plays a clean game and has never done anything to you.
That bothered me in game 1. What really got me in game 2 was when Jagr left for the locker room late in the period after taking a (clean) hipcheck. Presumably, he had a minor charlie horse or something. Whatever it is, the Buffalo fans CHEERED as he left the ice. As a fan of the game first and foremost, I find that shameful.

Jagr gets booed because he is overpaid - how many points does he have in this series - it is easy to tack on points as the rangers steamrolled atlanta. The hard part is scoring when it counts - ie you outplay the Sabres in the first two - but noone can step up to win the game. They clapped when he left the ice because he is soft. Nothing against the rangers - Jagr has always been booed in Buffalo. Again where is Avery? Doesn't seem like he likes getting checked too much. And about the fat jokes - been to NY seen my share of jowels there too.

How does it feel Rangers fans when your tem can't possibly play any better, the Sabres decided to take it fairly easy, and you guys STILL LOST! We played a very similar half-a**ed GAME 2 against the Islanders - they actually managed to win that game. Break out the butter you guys are toast. By Monday night we won't have to listen to that ugly broad Jagr's whining anymore. Be sure to watch us WIN THE CUP this year..
Interesting to see Jagr sticking up for that emotionally disturbed punk with such passion. They must have a relationship outside of hockey that we are not aware of.

My thinkins is get Avery on Vanek and let Avery get in his head. The Rangers miss that tough 1st d-man. Malik is so weak off the puck and along the boards. And get Pock back in there. Rachunek scares me all the time.
