The Rangers have confirmed that Aaron Ward was traded to Boston for defenseman Paul Mara...
Good deal.
Mara is younger, 27 and from Ridgewood, N.J.
Ward, outspoken to a fault, for some reason didn't quite fit in New York, or with this team, following his Stanley Cup season in Carolina.
Mara was drafted 7th overall in the first round of the 1997 NHL Entry Draft by the Lightning and shipped to. the B's on June 26, 2006 for fellow D Nick Boynton.
It is unclear whether Mara will be available to play tonight. If not, Thomas Pock will step in.

Despite his size Mara is not as physical as Ward (can you say Malik) but is a better offensive player and will bolster the second PP unit that features mostly north American players.
Dupuis traded.
Zubrus to the Sabres
This is not a good move for the Rangers. Ward is solid on the Penalty kill, we gave up two short handed goals with him out of the line up against the Bluejackets! Are you kidding me? Players have blow ups all the time, I can't imagine (the shouting Match) was a big deal to WARD, but it may have been to Jagr the Prima Donna, can't shoot in the shoot outs, take practices off Super Star! Maybe he holds his breath too.
Well, what's done is done.
Hopefully the move of Dupuis means that either Dawes, Immonen or Callahan or Jessiman will get a look.
Kings traded Matty Nordstrom. Don't know who to, but I do know the Rangers were in the mix.
5 years after trading for Tom Poti Sather picks up Poti's clone another awful trade by the worst gm in all of sports. Not that I was a ward fan but wow just awful.
With Dupuis gone the kids still won't get a chance Isibister will whatta disgrace!
Disappionting on all fronts. I agree, Ward was not playing all that well this year, but a -22 Mara with 95 PIMs? He's younger. Whatever. My 12-year old cousin is younger, do you want him on your blueline? Sather sucks. When will we receive a NY Sports miracle and have someone buy out the Dolans and save us all.
Well at least Mara isn't from Europe. At least that's a plus. Other than that, yet another disappointing year for the Rangers on all fronts with the exception of Jed Ortmeyer being back in the lineup.
Mara dosent seem that bad though, i think his numbers are less compelling because Chara came to the Bruins. Hopefully Mara will be able to point out PP with Rozival or somehting. Whatever Ward wasnt doing anything for us anyway.
Pleaseeeeeeee get rid of Sather, he killed the slight chance the rangers had of getting a playoff spot by doing absolutely nothing before the trade deadline, you have all these other teams landing top players, and you go after no one at all, way to go let the islanders pick up Ryan Smyth it should be an interesting 4 games with the islanders they can't beat the islanders this year plus now they added ryan smyth, and richard zednik so it should be fun, bring in Messier please we need a savior, Sather Sucks and his time is up, he has done absolutely nothing for us, and will bring the whole organization to the ground, something better be done before its too late for us
Most people here have no clue what they're talking about.
Islanders overpaid for Smyth, even if they can resign him. If they can resign him, that means they would've been able to sign him in July and still had their prospects and 1st round pick.
Jessiman, Chip, really? Hugh "Not Parise" Jessiman?
And Messier as GM!? C'mon! One loss to the Blue Jackets and we're calling for huge trades to make the playoffs and Messier as GM?
Yeah, the Islanders did severely overpay. He's not that good to give up 3 first round picks for him, whether they sign him or not. They are gonna regret this one sooner rather then later.
Sather S*cks - see the posts below yours. He is not at all a good GM but in this case not buying was the right thing to do. With the injuries and how far they're back they should have traded their number 1 this yr plus 2 other good prospects? I don't think so.
On the surface it looks like the Islanders overpaid, but they have three third round picks this year, which can be parlayed into a first or second round pick (not to mention the 2007 draft is not first-round heavy). Nillson - one of the players the Isles let go - was not panning out and Mara was years from being NHL ready. As Newsday pointed out today, the Isles haven't had a legit #1 pick since Pat Lafontaine. So it's not like these other guys were guarantees. The Islanders have set themselves up to possibly vault over the 8th or 7th seeds. It only takes one good run to win a Stanley Cup, as we've seen with the Hurricanes and others not years of advancing further and further and getting knocked out.
