Forsberg on hold...so far

The reports of Peter Forsberg waiving his no-trade clause today (on sportsnet.ca and other locales) were premature.

But I think he will, eventually.

No need to do it yet.

Philly can now let clubs come to them with offers and then ask the world-class, if injured, 33-year-old center if he'll waive the clause to go to a specific club.

I presume the Rangers' best chance is to offer what they believe is a fair deal, and see if Forsberg really wants to come to New York rather than elsewhere and join fellow Swedes Henrik Lundqvist and Michael Nylander as well as Shanahan and Jagr.

The Rangers have the cap room they'll need. Forsberg's $5.5 million by that point would be about $1.2 or $1.3 million.

please no on Peter the former great (and yes he WAS great). between the injuries - he can't get his foot comfortable in his skate which leads to other problems, salary cap if they attempt to resign him, plus the young assets -1st rounders etc. I can only hope that Dolan, Sather and co can't be that dumb. I want to win the Stanley Cup again not just get 2 home games this yr.

Are you kidding, Forsberg would be PERFECT! He'll put us over the top and turn us into contenders just like Lindros and Bure did...

This organization has to be the dumbest one in pro sports if they even think about trading for Forsberg. Have they learned nothing from the Bure fiasco? And, although banged up, Bure was a hell of a lot more productive during his "trade" season. Sather should call JD and ask about Doug Weight for that matter. Of course, knowing JD.... he'd probably ask for Marc Staal & a draft pick

Btw, what does a "mild knee sprain" mean for Rozsival? Will he play Weds?

Let him sit a game and play Pock, although hes gotta be pretty rusty from sitting. Oh yeah, trade Marek Malik for a bag of pucks.

I seriously doubt that the Flyers are going to deal Forsberg within the Division. More likely, if he gets moved it would be to a western contender - Dallas maybe if Modano can't come back healthy.

For the Blueshirts, I like the third line that they put together with Prucha, Jed and Cullen...I would like them to go out and find a good North American center to play with Shannahan. I like Betts, and would even play him on the wing on the second line to add defensive responsibility, but Shanny needs a playmaking pivot and Betts ain't it. Also I don't think his game would gel well with a Euro skater like Straka or Nylander...he needs someone who plays the straight ahead style that he does. Oddly enough I just described Eric Lindros in his prime, but lets just let that go. Anyway, any suggestions?

Take the risk and go get him!

If he comes here and helps get to the playoffs and plays good healthy hockey. Maybe even resigns next year!?

YOU GUYS ARE CRAZY! YOU ALL KNOW YOU WOULD LOVE IT!

None of you will be saying NO! DON'T DO IT then. Don't kid yourselves and say otherwise.

If you don't gamble you'll never win.

Young Assets, 1st Rounders, Blah, Blah, Blah. Take a look around! We don't exactly have the next Gretzky in our organization!

I agree with C's comments completely. On the other hand, BleedBlue's comments sound greedy to me. He says we all would love it IF Forsberg helps us to the playoffs, IF he plays good hockey. Yes I would love that. BUT I think the risk isn't worth the reward. It'll cost too much. Everyone else compares this situation to the Bure & Lindros deals, and they are 100% correct. Without risk there is no reward, 100% correct also. But why not go after a good player who isn't so risky and won't cost as much? Please Slats, don't be greedy!!

they can address their 2md line center problem in the offseason. Peter F is not at all worth the risk with his season of injuries. I want another cup in my lifetime and that trade would be a huge setback.

Hey guys,
I can ride on either side of this situation. I hear what you are all saying and agree. The history of stupidity is there. But at the same point we are talking about Forsberg, if he came healthy at the price of a few kids...you got to know deep down that you would love to have that guy on your team. ALL I'M TRYING TO SAY.

Most of you probably know of this site: http://www.spectorshockey.net/ I would say the best out there for trade rumors/news.

This is what Larry Brooks had to say:

Larry Brooks reports the NY Rangers "Plan A" to improve their roster is to pursue St. Louis Blues forward and impending UFA Keith Tkachuk, who has a no-trade clause but apparently would waive it to play for the Rangers. Brooks notes Tkachuk would be an expensive acquisition, and the Blues could demand one of the Blueshirts top young players in return. "Plan B" might be Chicago Blackhawks centre Bryan Smolinski, although the 'Hawks would also like to include blueliner Jassen Cullimore in the deal. The Rangers are also believed to have talked to the Nashville Predators about Josef Vasicek. "It is believed the Predators have expressed at least a passing interest in either Aaron Ward or Karel Rachunek." Meanwhile, the NY Islanders have asked the Rangers if they'll place defenceman Darius Kasparaitis on re-entry waivers in order to claim him but the Rangers "have no interest whatsoever in carrying the $1.5 million of dead cap space next season that a re-entry claim would mandate."
