Los Angeles/End of Two

Pick a seasonal adjective: Ghastly, ghoulish, frightening.

Halloween came a night early here in the Staples Center. The Rangers are playing like dead men walking.

Unless they somehow transform into superhuman beings, the lads will slip back to the dismal medicority of .500, with two of the best teams in the league ---the Ducks and Sharks---looming in back-to-back games tomorrow and Thursday.

The unearthly list of gaffes continued in the second, which ended 4-1

The odd man rushes were too numerous to chronicle.

Against a slumping Kings team that was averaging two goals a game, the Rangers made horrifying mistakes, including allowing a goal in the early minutes of the second period and another in the closing seconds. They couldn't score on three consecutive power plays. The Kings even broke in 2 on 1 shorthanded with during the middle one.

This was a ghost of the team that beat Phoenix 7-3.

Brendan Shanahan (who else?) who had been stopped by Mathieu Garon with 11:40 left, wristed a shot from the right dot past Garon at 17:35 after gathering a pass from Aaron Ward. It was his tenth of the year, but the Rangers couldn't hold any momentum into the intermission. With 48 seconds left, Sean Avery zipped the puck past Lundqvist while Blair Betts vainly attempted a check in the left circle.

I hope Sather will not wait until the season is lost before replacing Renney. He is 13-20-4 in his last 37 games and now faces the three of the best teams in the league one after the other while the Rangers stand on the edge of the abyss. The team has more talent last year but needs a coach who can instil some discipline and passion. Sather proved he is no Lamoriello able to step in and save the day, but I hope he's doing his job and laying down the law to Renney.

Henrik has slipped back. Why hasn't Weekes been whipped into playing shape? That's why you have a backup.

The point men on the power play are atrocious. Why aren't others tried, ie Ozolinsh, Pock, Tuytin, Cullen.

Hossa has now gone 51 games without an assist and is minus 20 in the last few months. After his last 44 games with Montreal when he had just one goal and one assist, he was sent to the minors. Why is he still there blocking the way of Dawes and possibly other prospects. He's 26 years old, five years in the league. This is called rebuilding? Well I suppose digging yourself a hole is part of the rebuilding process as well. Renney seems to be good at that.

By the end of November we will know where this team stands. Too many Europeans on defense, not hittng or clearing space out. Trade Kasper, Malik, abd that other garbage Racheanuk.

Bring in some North American players who want to win and can tough it out in the playoffs.

The headlines this morning should be shouting Tom Renney's firing. There's no excuse for his team not only losing but losing so badly to the Los Angeles Kings. Renney should be gone, and the fact that he isn't says nothing flattering about Rangers management. Unbelievable!

4-1 what is happening why can't they get it together.they stink they make the jets look good.why go to msg its not worth it

I agree with Bob. Why pay good money for such an undependable product? And especially if they're gonna drag their feet about turfing a head coach who no longer deserves to have his job. Because that's the situation. Renney should be out of there - now!
