Not the nickname I'd want to have to live up to.....
The Islanders announced today the signing of Joel Rechlicz (pronounced Wreck-lidge), hence the nickname), to a three year entry-level contract.
Here's what GM Garth Snow had to say about him:
We've been looking at Joel for some time now and he was a player we targeted for his toughness and energy," said Islanders General Manager Garth Snow. "He's someone who will help our organization be stronger in those areas."

Jagr 71 pts in 82 games
15 pts in 10 playoff games.
It really looks like he only played when he wanted to this past year.
Its a moot point with him saying he wants to return.
No guarantees Pitt can afford Malkin & Crosby. Most teams can't afford 2 studs (Tamp Bay) let alone Pitt.

So how soon before Chris Dey is named head coach?? I heard Doink the Clown might be next in line for the GM job.
Wow, yet another free agent signing by the Isles from junior or college ranks. There is a limit a team can keep in terms of signed prospects. Don't they trust their own draft picks?
It's true. The Islanders had an astounding 13 unrestricted free agents in their opening night lineup. 13!!! Are you kidding me?
Now, they really cannot draft well, so they have to sign amateur free agents because their draft picks aren't up to par. For every amateur free agent signed, that's one less draft pick that cannot be signed. The Isles need to sign these free agents because their prospects aren't really worth signing, LOL!!!
Yet, ANOTHER reason to laugh.
As Doink the Clown's rep I would like to state for the record he would'nt sign with this mickey mouse organization for all the balloons in the world. Yet another "classic" signing by Snow. Are you kidding me, the Wrecker. The Wrecker is going to get killed by real tough guys, c'mon people are you that blind. At this pace I would expect a call from the NHL to the owner saying "are you kidding, trying to put that team on the ice as a NHL caliber team" They may even suspend their operation. DP STOP THE PUCK. WHAT"S NEXT, HYPER EXTENDED HAIR. Clean out the coach's as well bring up the guys who can coach a minor league team. Send me whatever CHUCK and GARTH are smoking.
Anyone for some Gallows Humor on this otherwise dull Islander day?

Let's see -- one GOAL, 440 PENALTY MINUTES the past four years with eight different teams -- just what the Isles need. Wasn't Dave "Tiger" Williams available? He can probably still skate and would certainly bring more entertainment value. Speaking of which, what about the Hanson brothers? They could form an entire "energy" line, which is all Nolan and Snow seem to be interested in. Memo to Garth -- there's a pretty good player named Hossa who's set to be a UFA this summer -- might want to look into it. Oh, by ther way, that's MARIAN, not MARCEL, just so you don't sign the wrong one. What a segue -- how about Marcel Dionne? He would probably come pretty cheap these days and still has better hands than plumbers like Vasicek and Fedotenko. Sorry, fellow Islanders fans. I hate to rag on our team so much, but just as I was starting to feel good about being an Isles fan again, I fear we are on the edge of another deep, dark abyss. I pray to God I'm wrong.
you guys have no idea how hard this kid works, trust me when I say this, he will become a solid power forward in the nhl, this kid can play when he wants too, and for fighting, joel rechlicz would have no problem fighting anyone except maybe laraque but who doesnt?
this is why you negative people arent coaches..the coaches know what they are doing they are building for the future..this kid is 20 yrs old..nobody had faith in brett favre either..look what happened there..i mean really..shut up and let him show you all..then speak up after a year of him playing..im positive your opions will be differant..but then again keep posting negative comments...joel thrives on negativity
ive been following joel for some time now and there has always been the critics that follow him, he actually does so much better when this happens because he always ends up proving everyone who doubted him wrong, it always happens with this kid, goodluck this year joel, i will be keeping track off all your accomplishments!
