It would be next to impossible to match the excitement generated by the Islanders when their acquisition of Ryan Smyth was revealed slightly past the 3 p.m. trade deadline, and they certainly don’t figure to make a comparable splash this season. But as the clock winds down in the final minutes to make a deal, the Isles still are active in the marketplace.
No other contract extensions are in the works, which means pending free agent forwards Miroslav Satan, Ruslan Fedotenko, Josef Vasicek and Chris Simon still are available. Satan, of course, would have to waive his no-trade clause, and so far there is no word whether he has been approached by the Isles to do that.
If it turns out that all remain with the Islanders when the deadline passes, Fedotenko said yesterday there would be no hard feelings about being dangled as trade bait. “I learned the hard way that it’s a business for them, and you need to respect that,” Fedotenko said of general manager Garth Snow and the organization. “They’re trying to make decisions and put a winning team together.
“From Garth’s comments, it’s not necessarily a quick fix to make the playoffs. It’s the future of the organization. They’re trying to build with young talent. They have a job, and it’s not an easy job. Whatever they decide, I have no hard feelings at all. I enjoy it here. I love the organization, and I like the area. Do I want to be traded? No. But if that’s what is dealt, I had a great time here, and I’ll go someplace else. It’s just totally business at this point in my mind.”
Fedotenko and Vasicek actually have been part of the Islanders’ hottest line recently along with Trent Hunter, who was signed to a five-year extension. So, Snow has the option to hold onto his assets and hope this team can make a strong playoff run if he can’t get a worthwhile return in a trade.
As Fedotenko said, “We’re in the hunt right now. As long as we keep playing like we’ve been playing the last seven games, we’re making the playoffs. So, I don’t know if they’re a seller or buyer right now. I guess we’ll see.”
Half an hour to go.

Got nothing to say. Just wanted to be the first on this blog. It's the small things in life that make me smile. :) :)
p.s Think Garth might have cold feet after last years debacle....Jittersssssssss
I feel like TM!
TM ??????
Does this mean that Isles are all but done this deadline?
The least they can do is trade some guys for picls. I'd hate to see Satan and Fedotenko walk for nothing.
Please get something for Satan.
Pitt gets Gill...GREAT PICK UP !!!
Hossa to Pitt? Hey at least we don't gotta play him tonight.
Hossa to Pitt......WOW
The Oracle called Pitt at the start of the year and was booed....Could he have called it ????
Now get me the Satan trade and I will be a Legend! :) :)
If the Hossa to Pitt is true (I'm going to whine now)...it is not fair that they have Crosby, Malkin and Hossa. What the heck do we have?
The best trade would be to unload the 2mm for 5 yr waste of a contract on Trent Hunter. Lets see, he cant score, hes not tough(ever see his hits? frequent bud sad), but hes a character guy.
Look, Steve Webb had chracter and bounced people across the ice. Steve Thoams had character and scored goals. Hunter is a waste.
TSN brought up a great point though....How they gonna sign all three ???? Look what happened to the big 3 in Tampa!
James you are beyond lost
Good point Steady....something's gotta give.
YESSSS...GOOODBYE SIMON
Simon to Min. for 6 round. Not bad.
Once again everybody around us get better and we stay the same!!!!!! I smell a turd!
I still have a feeling that Fedotenko is gone. Probably a late deal.
I just don't see the Isles hanging on to him without a contract right now.
big deal ... Snow whiffed this year. Even if you want to say that the Tank-Vasicek-Hunter line was heating up and he wanted to keep them together (which I could live with), he still should have dealt Satan somewhere. No excuse not too ... package him w/ MAB and we would have got back a prospect and a pick from someone.
So, now that Simon has packed his bags does that mean that Tamby gets his 5th shot to stick???
If you go back three blogs you will see many were slamming Nolan for playing Simon.....Those of us that did not mind it said it was good to have him for the stretch run or to show case him.....The Simon haters got their wish! Not that I am sad to see him go......
But, some owe Nolan a HUGE apology !!!!! Enough with this "favorites" bs.....They were giving him playing time and getting him tuned up.
Come Tuesday when Satan is fighting Orr and Avery is running DP, please do not come whinningon this board.
No Witt...No Simon...No Sutton...No Kip Brennan.....
25% of our games vs. rough teams in the East.......Not going to be much fun to watch.
Maybe Comrie will fight the King tonight! lol lol lol
MAB.............BYE BYE BYE BYE BYE BYE BYE .... THANK YOU GOD !!!!!
MAB :-(
With Simon gone Tambellini has himself a roster spot now.
With all these trades and the strong teams getting stonger we should of been sellers! I don't want to hear that we are going to make a run at the cup! There's no way!
The Islanders are looking at this team long-term. They want to stockpile picks in this year's deep draft, and con't to develop the young guys while ridding ourselves of the scraps (MAB/Simon).
Snow didn't act too rashly, as he did last year... I think it's fine.
Please tell me there's another trade we haven't heard yet. I really thought MAB would get more in return if he was part of a package. Let's see what's left. Come on, Snow, where's that rabbit?
Steady
I bet you feel better.
How did Snow act rashly last year? He had a team in 6th place within striking distance of 4th and went for it. You would've been whining harder if he did nothing.
I like the moves, though I'm hoping there's a Satan and Fedotenko deal still to be announced.
If they traded MAB then that means another Dman is coming.
McCabe deal may be getting ironed out.
We should have gotten something for Fedetenko if we were stockpiling picks. We better be signing Satan if he hasn't been traded.
Naples....Not quite sure what you mean by the strong teams getting stronger ??????
Pitt...Yes
Rags....Did nothing
Ott...nothing
Devils....Nice D man, but nothing crazy
Wash...some ok moves
Buff...sold
MTL...stupid
Bos...Nothing
Tor....simply lost in a game plan and still strapped
Other than the Penguins, the EAST is wide open!!! The west looks stacked, but than again so did the Patriots!
thanks for all of the love and support!!! You fans are the best!!! Go Isles!!!
new thread started
According to TSN we're done. NOTHING for Satan, Tank and JoVa. This SUCKS big time. I'm pissed!
I think the Caps are going to push us right out of the game.
The new guy plays on defense tonight from what I read...
Yes sucks that we didn't get returns on Satan or Tank, but I am glad to see JoVas still around, and hope they can work another short-term deal (maybe two years this time). I've said it time and time again, the guy has some assets you just can't teach, let's see what Nolan can do.
If Satan is still around, maybe he signs next year for a discount and goes back to being a regular 2nd liner with Comrie and FA Winger.
I think Tank walks, which is a shame. Should have gotten something - but maybe that something is a push to the playoffs for this year - the guy is heating up.
So, does our top line next year start with Tamby-FA Center-Okposo!
Also, glad to see Tamby wasn't traded, surprised there isn't any chatter on here about that.
tamby will be a poor man Hunter, who is a poor man player.
What a joke this team is.
