Chris Simon, Marc-Andre Bergeron traded for picks

This one’s going to hurt Islanders coach Ted Nolan. Moments before the 3 p.m. NHL trade deadline, the Islanders sent enforcer Chris Simon to Minnesota in exchange for a sixth-round draft pick. The Isles also dumped defenseman Marc-Andre Bergeron to Anaheim for a third-round pick.

Simon and Nolan, of course, have a close, long-time relationship going back to Nolan’s days as coach of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, when he became something of a mentor to Simon. But apparently, Simon wore out his welcome with the Islanders after being hit with his second NHL-record suspension in as many seasons.

Simon’s 30-game suspension for stepping on the ankle of Pittsburgh’s Jarkko Ruutu on Dec. 15 just ended, and he joined the lineup for the past two games. Last season, Simon was suspended for 25 games for hitting the Rangers’ Ryan Hollweg in the face with his stick. That cost him the final 15 games of the regular season, plus the Isles' five-game loss to Buffalo in the first round of the playoffs and the first five games this season.

Bergeron was acquired last February and helped boost the Islanders’ power play with his booming cannon shot from the point, but he was a loose cannon on defense. Maybe Chris Pronger and Scott Niedermayer can cover for Bergeron when he struggles in his own end.

The Simon move once again creates room in the Islanders’ lineup for forward Jeff Tambellini, who has been recalled for tonight’s game against Pittsburgh. As for the hole on defense, Rob Davison, who was acquired earlier in the day from San Jose, is expected to arrive from Columbus in time to play tonight. Veteran Brendan Witt skated today and is hoping to be ready to return from the injury list by Saturday.

The Islanders now have extra picks in the second, fifth and sixth rounds and no pick in the seventh round of this summer's draft.

oooh, first to post. you're right Steady ... this is nice.

MAB should have been packaged w/ Satan though to get us back a first rounder and a prospect.

At least we don't have to watch him give away any more pucks at our blue line. Although, the glass replacement guys at NVMC won't be getting paid anymore OT now

No MAB

Steady, who's your next target? lol

There I was, thinking I'd be the first Bri to post! Damn security code!

Not that I'm looking for a fire sale, but I was hoping Snow would pull something savvy, something beyond his relative inexperience. Although there really isn't much left but scraps I suppose...

Is Davison supposed to be our new enforcer? Has he shown this before (his 238 PIM notwithstanding?)

PARADISE !!!!

Again....some need a BIG SORRY to Nolan......He does not play favorites....There was a reason Simon played the past few games.

505....Our bet still on ??? LOL

I have to give props to BD Gallof on that one - he called it a few days ago that the team might be showcasing Simon.

hope there's another last minute deal to get announced ... if not, Isles just got a 3rd rounder, 6th rounder and Davison for MAB, Simon and a 7th rounder.

Nothing earth shattering but still solid ... give Garth a B- so far.

Hate to say this but I believe Simon will be a UFA this summer don't be suprised if Teddy tries to get him back.

buyers, sellers, "builders", boring.....

If the Isles are done, Snow failed. He didn't "build" toward the playoffs nor did he "build" for the future.

Nolan does play favorites, even if this time Snow overid him. Cough Comrie has still never been benched cough Hilbert on the first line cough.

According to TSN we're done. NOTHING for Satan, Tank and JoVa. This SUCKS big time. I'm pissed!

All the GMs are pretty tight this year because of the hype on the calibur of the Draft. So I think Snow did well to get some more draft picks and still keep the team pretty much intact.

Simon is likely going with Nolan's blessing. Even Nolan has to admit he needs a fresh start. If Simon had come back earlier and played more games then they might have got a bit higher draft.

I would like to see Snow re-sign Satan.

Kevin T.

First reactions...
MAB for a 3rd round pick? To Anaheim?
First of all --WHAT THE HELL WAS ANAHEIM THINKING?
They've got arguably the best D-corps in the league (before this deal---MAB just took 'em down a notch).
MAB is gonna get a lot of time with Minnie and Mickey in the booth. Although I suppose he can replace Pronger on the PP. (wink wink).
Nice move by Snow to get a 3rd round pick for him. Beats the bag of pucks that Steady would have taken.

Chris Simon? Good riddance. 7th rd pick is about as good as a bag of pucks. Time to move on Teddy. But again, even with giving up a mere 7th round pick what was Minn thinking? They have Boogard.

Don't know much about this Davison guy, but he is coming from SJC which is as good as a defensive team as there is in the NHL right now so he should fill in well with our system.

As far as Satan and Tank?
Oh well......there's more to those (non) stories than meets the eye.
I thought one (Satan) was going somewhere for sure.
Go dig that story out Logan.

this was a terrible deadline. snow did nothing. we still have satan, vasicek, and fedotenko who are all free agents after the year. i dont think we are going to sign any of these guys in the offseason and its a shame on snows part not to get anything higher than a 3rd rounder. even if we do sign satan in the offseason, who cares? he has like 13 goals this season, that is putrid. he is past his prime. vasicek and fedotenko were horrible for the majority of the season until this recent winning streak. this was a complete failure for snow. now were stuck with what we have and no progress has been made. the above post is right. buyer, seller, "builder", nothing. we did nothing to improve. i hope snow is happy cause im certainly not. your thoughts?

Steady,

"There was a reason Simon played the past few games."
Steady, be real here.
If what you say is true, then that's gotta be the 1st time in the history of any sport that a player was "showcased" so a team a secure themselves A 7TH ROUND DRAFT PICK.

That trade wasn't much different than putting Simon on waivers.

"505....Our bet still on ??? LOL"
Yes, and I believe I JUST WON.
;)

Jungle,

Agreed. Raise your glass to a mediocre future.

505,

Touche.

All,

What went wrong? Or was this a conscious decision by Snow to hold Vas/Tank/Satan?

welcometothejungle, I think Snow can sign Vasicek and Fedotenko IF and WHEN he wants to. If their line with Hunter continues to perform, then he knows what he is getting. The longer he waits, the less risk he is taking on re-signing them. So there is no hurry to punch that one through.

Kevin T.

hey, we could find a gem in the 7th round.....i may be mistaken, but wasnt campoli taken in the 7th???

Say what you want about MAB, I don't necesarily think it was wise to trade the team leader in power play goals, especially on a team that can't score on the PP.

Expect the Isles to ink either Tank or Vasicek (not both) over the summer and the jury is out on Satan. I'm guessing he wants to stay but at what price? A 2 yr. deal on the cheap wouldn't be horrendous.

Isles have some pieces in place and a few extra draft picks to work with (not what we all wanted but who knows ... maybe a Gervais for McCabe deal along w/ swapping 1st rounders can still happen prior to the draft?).

Overall, not great but what do you expect? We're the Islanders! Mediocrity is king for us.

Candyman,

"Or was this a conscious decision by Snow to hold Vas/Tank/Satan?"

I gotta speculate that Snow couldn't get a decent offer for any of them. Let's face it, THEIR NUMBERS SUCK this year.
And am I the only guy that sees Satan skating at 1/4 speed out there? He hurt his knee about a month ago, and I don't think he is recovered. That could have put him on a "do not touch" list for a lot of GM's.

If nothing else these 3 guys should take this as a "if Snow couldn't get anything for me now, what the hell do I think I'm gonna command in June?"

IMPROVE YOUR OUTPUT BOYS..
You got 19 games to change peoples minds about you, otherwise you can take your UFA status back to Europe.

Holding Fedotenko at the juncture can not be spun as a good move. That guy has a post season history that GMs would kill to get a hold of.

I usually back Snow on a lot of things but this one stinks. Tank is gonna walk for big money this offseason. Not Drury money but better than what he has now and for term.

He could have gotten us a second rounder.

Washington got tougher and a lot better with their deals. Federov is still good enough to anchor a back line and get you some goals. Especially playing behind the top line of Ovechkin. Our chanced of making the post season are very slim right now.

Philly is all but solidified as well.

Did Snow bother to read the field as the day wore on? Washington and Philly just turned us into sellers in a very violent way.

I even think that despite trading Hossa, Atlanta did a better job of rounding out their roster.

505,

Good point...it might convince them to sign an extention with the Isles...time will tell...

Bri,

The Isles could have used McCabe now, especially since they traded MAB...it wouldn't make sense for the Isles to go down that road after the season...

snow said he was close to making a big deal but it fell throught...he wouldn't say who it was but just that it was close

give the guy a break, he tried with a big deal but it didn't work, atleast he really didn't make any "bad" moves

lets put some trust in this team....LETS GET 2 TONIGHT!!!

OK boys andd girls, let's all be realistic about this...

The Isles are just 2 points out of playoff position. If Snow deals either Fedotenko or JoVas he breaks up the team's most productive line, sending a message to the fan base that he's tossing it in for t his season. Granted, many of the hard core on t his board wouldn't have minded that much, but what about the rest of the 9,000+ who attend games each week. Economics dictates that you have to make a run for the playoffs when you can. Those game represent a whole bunch of scratch that serves to put some salve on the bottomline hemorage.

Did someone say Satan? The guy has a knee that's one slight hipcheck away from reconstructive surgery. Plus, he's got a NTC. Don't be surprised if he can be signed for a more reasonable deal during the summer. Maybe we'll see more next year when he's healthy.

So let's cut Snow some slack.

Snow got us a 3rd rounder for a skating defensive liability. We got a 7th for a guy that moralistic wing of the fan base wanted to crucify. We got a 6-3, 220lb. 27 yr old D man that the SJ fan base unanimously feels deserved MORE ice time on a team already chin deep in defensemen. Plus the guy can swing the fists a bit.

Yes, I would've liked another 1st rounder. But that just isn't realistic.

what annoys me most is that while we may not have done anything, we have 0 chance of making the playoffs now i mean look at philli and caps like the above post says. oveckin has support guys now. wait till richards comes back for philli along with prospal. philli has 7 twenty goal scorers on their team. 7!!!! i seriously think we should just tank the season and play the kids. there is no point in a one and done in the playoffs. we have been down that road way too many times. the way you retool in hte new nhl is to trade your assets for picks + prospects. just look at what flyers did last year. we dindnt improve ourselves by either getting players or by getting picks + prospects. im freakin pissed as hell!!! we should tank the season for steven stamkos. ugggghhhh. this so frustrating to watch others get better while we sit and watch. your thoughts?

I'm going to wait for this year's draft and to see where the UFA's go before I judge the moves Snow made today. As far as our payroll goes didn't it go down today?

btw, is marian hossa playing tonight becasue i love this guy! hes my fav player.

Snow couldn't build a snowman after the trades he made today. I'm just glad they got rid of Simon.

Oh well, this wasn't the year to take a giant step forward. The way I see, we've stayed exactly in the same spot. If the UFA's walk we will have the space to start relying on the kids (and perhaps add a free agent of two). It would have been better to get some value but at least its another inch in the right direction for turning this franchise around.

Correct me if I am wrong but can't Snow use some of his picks to trade up higher in the draft? We have a fair number of selections heading into the offseason.

Go Isles!

It seems Snow didn't know which way to go - either be a buyer or seller - there is no middle ground.....If you are going to keep Satan Fedotenko Vasicek & Berard - they should have traded for a guy like Peca - Nagy - Gratton - the price couldn't have been that steep - if they decided to totally stand pat.

Hossa is not playing

Davison is

Yeah I guess what's done is done. We got what we got, without a fire sale, so Isles better push their way into the playoffs. Starts tonight. Although I do agree with Corey above.

Wow...VERY disappointed....I was hoping for Satan to be traded for a first rounder! OR at least for anything!

I don't know if Hossa is playing, but at least Colby Armstrong won't be...
And the Penguins won't be able to afford Hossa in July. They just madea similar deal to the Smyth deal of last year... but they do have a better chance of making a run.
I wouldn't mind seeing Hossa in Blue and Orange for the next five years... and we can definitely afford him.

Have you guys taken a second to think that maybe he just couldn't get a deal to work? Maybe the prices were too low. Maybe the deal fell through at the last second. I guarantee that people would be 10 times more angry if Satan was traded for a 3rd round pick or a marginal player. Let's move forward with what we have.

Snow was trying for Higgins and Komiserek from MTL. MTL wanted Gervais involved in any package. Not sure if this was a sticking point or not, don't know who else was involved. Tamby's name was thrown around, but Snow is really high on him still.

i have a plan in mind to fix our team. its pretty shallow but tell me what you guys think. i have a feeling though you guys might not like it.
1) bring kyle okposo up before the 9th last game of the season to see what he can contribute NOW. remember the 9th last game means we have him for contract for 3 years and not 2.
2) tank the season and get steven stamkos. we are not making the playoffs becasue of my above mentioned reasons. stamkos is the real deal.
3) let tank, vas, and satan go at the end of the year. they are not worth it. they have all been terrible for the majority of the season until recently and thats being honest.
4) let the kids play this year to see who can contribute what.
5) since no one is attractive out in free agency and in all honesty no one good wants to come here, play thge kids again next year.
6) make small acquisitions in the summer so you can trade them for picks for the 09 draft.
7) try to get john taveras in 09. the only you can win in a small market is to build up your farm system.
8) lets come the realization that in the NEW nhl, you need speed and skill. we dont have much of that and we need to acquire that. as good as a team with no names who have limited success (making playoffs and then exiting) sounds good, it sounds a lot better if you have a fast and skilled team who is going to have SUSTAINED success.

even though we will be bad for a couple years, in the end we will have a true contender. we can build with our prospects by acquirning key free agents later on down on the road. getting the new collesium built is also key in all these measures. the new stadium will offer a hell of a lot more incentives for free agents to come here. remebre this plan requires patience but in the end it will pay off. your thougts?

DON'T tempt me with the words Higgins and Komisarek!!!!

GAWD,,,,,

Remember my dream 3 way deal earlier in the year? MTL, TPB and the Isles in a deal that would have sent Higgins and Komisarek to the Isles and Lecav to Les Habs?

DAMN that would have been sweet!!

WelcometotheJungle

"your thougts?"

Be thankful I am not drinking right now.
I got as far as "tank the season".
You wanna to "tank the season"?
Fine, go away and don't look back.

JP, hope you're right. All we heard all week from Snow was that he viewed cap space as an asset. Well, now we're sitting here w/ tons of it ... none of it was used as an asset to help this team out now (McCabe or Richards) so what happens next???

We go into the summer w/ a ton of cap space and unless we land the big fish (like Hossa) then we'll be $10 mill under the cap next year too. Eventually, if you don't strike some deals and utilize all of this "wonderful cap space" we have then we're just a team operating on a cap that's $10 mill under every other team in the league.

Oh well ... off to NVMC to take a peek at the "new look" Isles. Anyone know if Crosby is playing?

Garth you suck at life. How in the world did they not trade Tank????? This guy sucks and is a beast in the playoffs. Even if it was only for a 2nd round pick, at least get something for the guy!!!! Montreal loses out on Hossa and Satan and Tank are sitting here and Garth cant do anything??? Get a Ryder or better yet a Higgins for these bums. Miro is finished!!!! Here we go again, plugging away at the 8th spot and a 1st round KO. And by the way, who is going to play the point on the PP now that MAB is gone??? Davison??? What a terrible job by an awful inexperienced GM.

505, i know you may not like it but come on be honest. do you think we can compete with philly and washington for the 7th or 8th spot. when mike richards comes back, philli is going to have 7 twenty goal scorers. then look at washington. they have ovechkin, backstrom, federov, semin, kozlov, and cooke as their top 6 forwards. now match that with our top 6 forwards. its not even close. look, i wanna win too but its better to have sustained success rather than limited success. we have dp in net already.he is in doubt a top 5 goalie. if we can just build around, we'll be contenders for real but that fact of the matter is that will take time with our current status.

Jungle ... don't be a dope. The only way picks work out is if they HIT THE MARK. yeah, Stamkos looks like the real deal but we couldn't get the # 1 pick at this point ... we're too far away. If anything, I like what someone said earlier ... package some of our picks to jump up into the first round.

And if the Montreal rumors are true (Higgins and Komiserek) and that deal somehow got blown up cause Snow wouldn't trade Bruno or Tamby then that's just nuts. Time to show Snowy the door and thank him for his time ... let's get a real GM in here.

in doubt a top 5 goalie*

I more than anyone advocated for a fire sale. But a true fan never roots for his team to tank.

bri, what is the point of a 1st round exit? you tell me. i have been a fan of this team since the maple leaf series in 01-02. we havent gotten past hte 1st round for a while. dont you want to have sustained success? and as for your point about picks not working out, top 5 picks are top 5 picks for a very good reason. and you dont package your picks away for nothing. think back to the ryan smyth deal. dont you also find it coincedential that nearly all teams were reluctant to trade their 1st rounders this year. think about that before you call me a dope.

Caesar,

With some due respect,
I think you need to stop using that hardwire brush on that salad between your shoulders.

"Holding Fedotenko at the juncture can not be spun as a good move. That guy has a post season history that GMs would kill to get a hold of.I usually back Snow on a lot of things but this one stinks. Tank is gonna walk for big money this offseason. Not Drury money but better than what he has now and for term.
He could have gotten us a second rounder."

Tank is gonna get big money? You mean like he got from the Isles LAST YEAR?? Wasn't this guy ONE OF THE LEFTOVERS?? And now, despite HORRIBLE NUMBERS this year he is gonna translate that into BIGGER MONEY NUMBERS this offseason.
Good thing you are not a GM.

"He could have gotten us a second rounder."
From whom? and APPARENTLY NOT. Cuz I think Snow would have taken a HIGH second rounder for him but COULDN'T FIND ANY TAKERS.

"Washington got tougher and a lot better with their deals. Federov is still good enough to anchor a back line and get you some goals. Especially playing behind the top line of Ovechkin. Our chanced of making the post season are very slim right now."

Well, let's just call it a season then, eh Caesar? Cuz nobody is gonna stop the big bad Cap's now. THEY JUST MADE THE PLAYOFFS--------ON PAPER!!!!!
Take your paper and..........

"Our chanced of making the post season are very slim right now."
ARGHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sunshine Fan Alert!!!!!!

Philly is all but solidified as well.
Philly is still a very injured team.

"Did Snow bother to read the field as the day wore on? Washington and Philly just turned us into sellers in a very violent way."
There is NO SUCH THING AS A SELLER IF THERE ARE NO BUYERS!!!

"I even think that despite trading Hossa, Atlanta did a better job of rounding out their roster."
Atlanta ain't making the playoffs. But you are free to go cheer them on if that makes you feel better.

GAWD HELP ME!!!!!!

jungle:"top 5 picks are top 5 picks for a very good reason."

Please see: Daigle, Alexandre; Yashin, Alexei.

Top 5 picks aren't all Ovechkin, Crosby, Malkin, Heatley, Kovalchuk.

does anyone know if marian hossa will be playing for the pens tonight

uh, I'm confused... is there another brad richards that i don't know about who went to solidify philly? I mean, other than the brad richards who went to dallas?

Ah, never mind... i see it was prospal they got...

PLEASE, there is now ay we have the chips to get Higgins or Komisarek, NEVER MIND BOTH!!!!! To the guy who posted that above, nice try. And, to the posters who think it was serious, STOP AND THINK.

And, I think Snowy is BSing us. A real big deal was close? What, he wouldn't give up a Tambs to finalize a real big deal? Some more bs to make it seem like we were about to land a big fish to keep us happy. "I was really, really trying guys, honestly" BS,BS,BS. I'm sorry, I'm not buying it.

You didn't make a deal, I'm not happy about it but don't try and sell me that a BIG DEAL was close. He treats us like idiots. Goes along the line of the typical, "he's out day-to-day" for a month BS we get with injuries.

Higgins & Komisarek........I can't believe some of you fell for that post.

thank you vukota. west coast fan, its mike richards of the flyers. you guys seriously need to stop drinking the kool aid and get real, snow just did not do a good job today. there is no harm in admitting that. fllyers are better than us becasue after a while, those injured players will be back. and as for capitals, yes they are better than us becasue of the guys they have at every position besides goalie are better than us.

Speculating about Higgins and Kommiserik is insane... Montreal wasn't giving them up for Bruno and Tambellin... I guarentee that.
I think today worked out well. As mentioned before, trading Vasicek and/or Fedotenko breaks up the most productive line on the team.
Vasicek came out of the gate with a head of steam this year, then had those two facial injuries which stalled him for a few months. But now he looks like he did in the first 15 games, and he has gotten tank and Hunter rolling as well. I think Bergy could replace tank in that spot, but I don't htink we have the kind of center in the system that will replace Vasicek. I think he's a keeper and hope they re-sign him before he becomes a UFA.
Satan has other issues that will keep him affordable to the Isles. I think he enjoys playing for Nolan, who recognizes his contributins... even without his production. A decision will have to be made in July whether his discounted rate is worth taking away TOI from developing kids. Comeau might be the deciding factor.
now we get to what next year's team looks like at this point...
Before the hammer comes down, I believe these are players that are signed through next year.

Guerin-Comrie-Comeau
Okposo-Nielsen-Bergenhiem
Hilbert-Sillinger-Hunter
Tambellini-Park-Acquino
(Bootland/Jackman/Colliton/Figren/Rahkshani)

Witt-Marty
Sutton-Campoli
Gervais-Meyer
(Kohn/Spiller/Fata/Davison)

Without Satan, Vasicek and Tank they will $20M to spend in July.
It's not that pretty, especially becasue the UFA market may not be that good this year. But Snow will definitely have the most cash becasue he's got a goalie, a second line, and a pretty good group of fill in the blanks for the makings of a top six.

Hey Jungle ... getting a top 5 pick is no guarantee of success. Sure, you have your picks like Crosby, Ovechkin, Nash, Kovalchuk, etc. but how about these doozies (all top 5 picks from the last few years)???

'01 - Svitov (TB) - playing in Russia
Weiss (FLA) - bust, 1 20 goal year
Chistov (ANA) - bust
'03 - Horton (FLA) - not bad but certainly not great
Zherdev (CB) - so-so
'04 - Ladd (CAR) - bust
Wheeler (PHO) - nada yet
'05 - Ryan (ANA) - nothing so far
Pouliot (MIN) - nothing so far

So, as you can see, getting a top 5 pick doesn't guarantee anything. You can strike gold just as easily drafting at the bottom of the first round as you can at the top. The point is, Isles have to pick the RIGHT players when they do draft. That's it.

As far as the first round quick exit ... I hate that too. But like some have pointed out, it's some nice "added change" for Wang. Truth be told, I couldn't care less if Wang makes or loses money but a playoff game is still a playoff game. However, if we can't make the playoffs then I'd love to have the highest pick possible ... it's just tough balancing both acts!!!

I can argue that point you made 505, but I won't. The Isles put him on the ice for two games to get his legs going again after a long lay off. People on this board ripped Nolan, and my only point was they were wrong. No biggie

Candy....Name me one coach in the history of sports that never played favorites a little bit and I will by you a case of suds.

Jungle...You have been a fan since 01 .... You got to earn your stripes then son. :) Who says we would have a first round exit ?? We can SMOKE the Devils....That's right I said it...SMOKE THEM !!!! We got to get their first.

Philly is 50/50 to get Richards back...and WE are getting back players also!! Washington BLOWS......They are a one trick pony!

***Enough BS....HUGE GAME TONIGHT....Pitt will be without half their team....JUST GET TWO POINT TONIGHT BOYS !!!

TAKE TWO......YAH GOTTA BELIEVE !!!

505 ... Good thing it isn't a Monday ... right?

Look guys ... the way I see it ... sure ... we didn't make a splash ... a lot of teams were reluctant to part with their picks in a deep draft.

Kinda what I was thinking about last night when I said I don't want to hurt my head or anyone else's head.

Value ... for our players, our picks and our prospects vs. value of other team's players, picks and prospects.... what is that? Well .. it is what another team is willing to pay us for.

As someone else here put it .... We can't sell if no one else is buying... so what are they worth? Right now? Nothing...

... I'm glad for one thing .... at least the Isles didn't de-pants and throw away the season. We have a shot ... True enough that Washington & Pitt improved ... even the Devils a slight bit. I don't think the Isles are done ... I think if anything they are going to turn it up. We aren't going to miss Simon ... he only played in what? 26 games this year?

MAB ... ya know ... I wasn't all that fond of him ... I didn't like his defensive lapses ... but ... after all is said and done ... the Isles will miss his PP production .. cause lets face it ... they have ZERO now ... it's going to be all Berard .. and ya know what? Maybe Meyer can step it up.

I'm happy that Tamby might have a spot on the roster the balance of the season. That is a good thing.

My overall opinion ... which may change as the dust for the tradewinds settle ... but .... I think the Isles got knocked down a small notch (losing MAB's PP production) for the short term ... but not down and out by any means .... but I think they got better for the long term with the picks ( can still package them) and got a D-man that can protect DP... and still has some upside.

That is all I have to add for now. I watched TSN's trade analysis on the NHL network for the last hour and a half and are more stupid for having watched it.

... and for the record.... What kind of competitor throws in the towel because we are 2 points out of a playoff spot. The other teams still have to win their games just as much as we do. I hope that the Isles have more fight then the defeatest attitudes I've seen here.

We have some work to do for the next 19 reg season games plus playoffs. We'll worry about contract extensions and UFA in the late spring.

Negative talk like that will get you 5 minutes in a steel cage match with 505, & Steady as his trainer substituting some Jack Blue Label in 505's water bottle.

Keeping it pithy ... Catch you guys after the Pens game....

spezza, gaborik, kopitar, DIPIETRO, nrick nash, eric staal, vanek, erik hohnson, jordan staal, jonathan towes, kessel
thats just past couple draft im not even going to go into the 1990's. more successes than failures. you can't have both. we would be much better of tanking the season. i know you may not like it but that is how the pens got mario.

I did an eval of each move, but newsday "held" it, (I used a religous refernce petaining to moses at the red sea/simon and one ED drug reference pertaining to Steady/MAB) and I'm too lazy to retype the whole thing. I'm with steady on the whole Simon thing. I think Nolan thought the team needed him at this stage more than they needed Tambellini. When he came out to boos it pretty much sealed his fate. the trade was a favor to him so he could finish the season in front of fans that will give him a chance. Maybe he has a season or two left in the tank. Most likely not, but he doesn't need to end a pretty good career with his own fans throwng him to the lions.

The Rags did nothing either which suprises me. They should of made a run at it.

They did add ANOTHER goon. God help us in the four games vs. them and two vs. Philly......Keep your heads up Isles, keep your heads up !!!!

Jungle....I can name you 5000 draft picks that were busts...We all know the Milbury days. You have to be in it to win it.....Root for your team !!!

SNOW....You are officially a BOBBLEHEAD....God help you on this board if your UFA walk and you are unable to sign and FA's this summer!

Heyyyyyyy you finally admitted it...Nolan plays favorites....don't need no suds that's good enough for me...as per your above post...you're right about top picks...Chevledayoff, Cheynoweth, Lachance, rrrrrr....the UFAs will walk...he will lowball Satan and Vasicek...IT WILL BE THE SAME THING AS LAST SUMMER

I HEARBY WISH TO NAME JULY 1ST AS THE OFFICIAL GROUNDHOG DAY IN ISLANDER COUNTRY

JP

"When he came out to boos it pretty much sealed his fate."

Not a chance.
1 goal and 2 assists in self induced limited playing time, a myriad of stupid late game penalties over the last 2 seasons, and Comeau and Gervais being run in the last 2 games sealed his fate. He is nothing more than an end of his career Gerry Cooney with skates.
He was done with the Isles.
(But don't be surprised to see him back next year....he IS still a UFA after all).

Steady,

"SNOW....You are officially a BOBBLEHEAD....God help you on this board if your UFA walk and you are unable to sign and FA's this summer!"

Whoa, slow down there big fella.
It wouldn't kill me if Satan/Tank/Jovas walked this summer.
Unless they put the afterburners on over the next 19 games....AND DEEP into the playoffs.
IF that happened, we'll all be calling Snow a GENIUS for not dumping them at the deadline.
On the other hand, if they continue to put up the lousy numbers they've been enjoying all season at Merrick and AZS' expense, well, what the hell??? Godspeed and good fortune boys...CYA!!
There's plenty of other 5-15 goal per year UFA's that will come here for less money than these guys might think they deserve.

Like I said (19Isles) "ya can't be a seller if no one is buying".

As far as the feeling about "losing UFA's with nothing in return"...hey, it's the nature of the beast nowadays. A lot of teams get burned by UFA's.

Hey everyone. Long time reader, first time writer. At this point I can hold my tongue no longer. Let's start with Simon, good riddance. He got too many chances. MAB may not have been a defensive dynamo, but he scored more than Hilbert, not that that's saying much. I admit that we got some picks for those guys, but they should have been packaged and sent. As for the new guy we picked up? He is terrible and shows no signs of being better than MAB at defense and definitely not at scoring. We then resigned Comrie who is mediocre at best. I know he is the leading scorer, but he has a lousy base for comparison.

Satan, Tank, etc. are no longer advantages for us and show it each game. It's also obvious that Guerin, who may be a good Captain, certainly has to use a videotape to relive his good years.

This leads me to DiPietro. His GAA and Save % are not worth the money we spend. He is out of the net more than in and his spectacular games do not outnumber his poor ones. I marvel at the fact that people will give him credit for a game won, but blame the whole team for a game lost. I don't hate him, but he is no All Star. I know several of the players and they say that he needs an extra seat on the plane for his ego. A team is not one person, and it certainly isn't him.

Give the rest of the season to the young guys, let the get some experience and see if they have the moxie to pull us into the playoffs. We having nothing to lose and everything to gain by them getting experience. If we are buiding for the future we need people who will be there for us. Bring up Okposo if we need to.

I love this team and have been a fan since for many years. I don't hang my hat on past Stanley Cups and believe that we can have a good future. What we did today, however, didn't help.

BD Galof just confirmed that Snow was trying for Higgins. A deal was close. Sticking point was Comeau.

Satan, Gervais, Tamby, Comeau + 3rd rnd for Higgins, Komiserik and a 5th rnd pick

Mixed emotions ... but you guys have probably forget about Jon Sim. As far as I know, he is signed for the next season, isn't he?

"This guy sucks and is a beast in the playoffs" - jislander7 in reference to Fedetenko

Does anyone else think this statement is a little contradictory...I agree that the deadline was disappointing but i don't blame snow, the deadline this year was pretty dry for anyone who didn't have an allstar for sale...

"Satan, Gervais, Tamby, Comeau + 3rd rnd for Higgins, Komiserik and a 5th rnd pick"

Damn,
Can't say that I blame Garth for hedging that trade based on Comeau....but.....

Higgins AND Komisarek???
WOW.

Ugh,,,,,I think I would have done it.
For PURELY sentimental reasons. (and the fact that I have been calling for any trade that brought Higgins OR Komisarek over here for months on this board)
;)

this guy Davison is a beast (check out you tube), we finally have a real enforcer, adios Simon.

Im giving Snow the benefit of the doubt, even though I think trading MAB was a mistake. We dont know for sure what was being offered for Satan and Tank.

Let the playoff push begin!!!

Snow was trying for Higgins and Komiserek from MTL. MTL wanted Gervais involved in any package. Not sure if this was a sticking point or not, don't know who else was involved. Tamby's name was thrown around, but Snow is really high on him stil
