When Islanders assistant coach Gerard Gallant sent out defensemen Chris Campoli and Bruno Gervais to man the points for a five-on-three power play in the third period of their 4-3 shootout loss Wednesday night in Atlanta, Marc-Andre Bergeron protested. Bergeron felt he should be on the ice in that situation to fire his booming point shot with plenty of space to get it through, and he let Gallant know in a heated exchange that was captured by FSNY’s cameras.
Gallant downplayed the incident with a smile this afternoon after the Isles practiced at BankAtlantic Center. “At the time, it was heated, but it was really nothing,” Gallant said. “It was just about the power play setup is all. It doesn’t affect anything.”
Head coach Ted Nolan will be the one to decide whether or not Bergeron’s outburst affected his playing status for Friday night’s game against Florida, and he didn’t sound as forgiving as Gallant. “Yeah, I do have a problem with that,” Nolan said. “That’s going to be rectified. There’s times to do it, and there’s times not to do it. Definitely, that wasn’t the right time. We’ll be addressing both individuals, and we’ll make some corrections.”
Bryan Berard, who often serves as power play quarterback, was a healthy scratch in Atlanta, but Nolan said that will change. “We need Bryan to play better than he has, and I’m quite sure he will,” Nolan said. “But you take into consideration he only played [55] games the last two years because he got hurt. We had a couple good practices, and you’ll see him back in tomorrow night.”
Nolan didn’t specify whether that means Bergeron will be scratched or not. He has gone with seven defensemen a number of times and easily could do so again, especially after not using forward Sean Bergenheim at all in the first period when the Isles spent most of their time killing penalties. But the smart money is on Nolan to bench Bergeron.

Remember when MAB showed up here, he scored a goal and everyone said "Hey we just got the second coming of paul coffey for a bag of pucks!"
Now... not so much.
You get in the coach's doghouse, you ride pine, boy. That's just how it is.
I've said it before and I'll say it again.......Get rid of MAB. He's an arrogant, self centered mediocre player who has a booming shot that rarely hits the net. Don't let the door hit you on the way out Marky Boy!!!!
I think our Islanders are in some serious trouble.
Top Seven Players (keepers) on the team as I see it:
1 - DP
2 - Park
3 - Hunter
4 - Vasicek
5 - Satan
6 - Sillinger
7 - Fedotenko
Your list?
Kevin T.
One cant help but question Gallants ideaology, I would think no? Take a look at the god-awful Power Play. I think its like 3 for 89 lately...maybe Bergeron was right?!
I am sick and tired of hearing about his "shot".
3rd period and the PP is back on track...
Pass pass pass - lightening fast...the final pass out to Bergeron at the point for the one-timer....goalie out of position...its the perfect situation....
WRONG!!!!!!
Bergeron stops the puck, winds up and shoots. No one-timer...no speed...no goal!
Of course Gallant doesn't want him out there.
Nice list kevin. But you forgot witt, campolli and martinek
Speaking on the Bergeron-Gallant exchange on the bench, I can honestly say I was refreshed to see a coach (an assistant, no less) give some well-deserved "what-for" to an out-of-line player. Sometimes a player has to be embarassed IN FRONT of his teammates to get the message and start toeing the line. Besides, maybe if Bergeron's "cannon" didn't miss the net 90% of the time, he WOULD have been out in that situation. The only right thing to do is for Nolan to back up Gallant and bench Bergeron for the next game -- or two. It's not like he hasn't earned the right to watch from upstairs anyway, with his lackluster play, outburst aside.
Time to ship MAB out! He is worthless, he can't play D. His shot is always off target and he always breaks his stick on it. Additionally, he telegraphs his shot. DO IT SNOW RELEASE HIM!
We must beat Florida! I'd starts Dubie, just to give rest to DP as he is fighting the puck at the moment. Dubie should play a better game in net, you would think he is due. A 3 point weekend would make me very happy!
Although there are serious issues with the power play, there IS a time and place for everything. With cameras rolling doesn't quite seem the time. And as Jaffe pointed out, being on the power play is a PRIVILEDGE. I think MAB can be a good player, but he needs the right attitude in order to work within the system.
I think the fault of losing is everyone involved. Win as a team ... Lose as a team.
Gallant can't be proud of the PP the last month. I think DP is getting worn down ... and the PP's against are wearing on the D ... and keeping the offensive players off the ice.
Regarding the MAB incident... Well ... I'm glad he's pissed and showed emotion. I want players on the team that want to be out there for key situations. Nothing worse than a player that wants to hide behind the bench. I however do agree with Nolan ... there is a time and place for that. MAB showed once again his selfishness.
It's a cumulative thing. I agree with what someone mentioned on the previous thread. The Isles were a bit too confident in their early success and stopped pressing.
We can pick apart their game all we want. It still doesn't fix it. They are professionals and know what they have to do ... and they probably do. It's all in the execution of the game plan. Nolan is a great coach and I'm sure has them prepared. The bone head errors are done on the ice.
Just before the first game of the season I said the Islanders success will live and die by their special teams. I wish I was wrong.
Trades???? Does anyone believe we have the assets to trade anyone without losing in the end? For that matter. Does anyone believe one or two players are enough to help and push the team to the next level and make a legitimate contender???
For whatever its worth, think about this:
I dont think MAB wanted to be on the ice to be a jerk or to hurt things, I think he wanted to be on the ice to help the team win!
That being said, I am not defending what he did... because he handled it the wrong way, no doubt. But please try to realize that his motivation was someting Ted and the rest of the coaching staff has worked hard on cultivating in these players- a desire to win games.
Muster up a shred of objectivity for a guy that, as frustrating as he has been, HAS scored goals for this team when they were very much needed.
Here here, 19Isle in NJ,
Give me a player who shows a little emotion and WANTS to be in the game at key moments.
I would rather see that than a Jagr-type looking for the locker room during shootouts.
I am not saying that Gallant/Nolan were wrong or that Bergeron was right. The heat of battle will bring the best and worst out of everyone involved everytime.
Give me a guy who wants to step up over a robot anytime. Get the ugliness out of your system and make nice in the locker room later on.
If Nolan benches him for a game, so be it.
But the Isles could use a little fire as demonstrated by MAB right now.
I think John Fogerty's "Centerfield" would be appropriate pre-game locker room music tomorrow night.
I agree with playing Dubie on the roadtrip.
One thing I would recommend is that Nolan start DP for all home games and give him a rest on the road. Since the home fans a less tolerant of a blowout, I don't think it's in the best interest of the franchise to wait until DP is burnt and then have to go to the backup at home.
The teams seems a bit fragile, especially when they get scored on first. Lets see if they have finally bottomed-out. They have showed some signs of coming out of this fog, hopefully we it get all the way back!
Kevin T.
Brian, remember the last time the Isles started a backup in Florida? Dunham couldn't stop a beach ball. When the team needs 2 points badly, you go with your #1 goalie.
Nice list kevin. But you forgot witt, campolli and martinek
This has nothing to do with the Islanders, but is simply for the benefit of hockey fans--especilly the older ones among us.
I regularly read John Buccigross' column online--and a week ago, he "blogged" an NHL Network showing of a 1971 match between the Red Wings and Maple Leafs. Simply great stuff!
http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/columns/story?columnist=buccigross_john&id=3129968
Greg, I'm sorry to say that I think the cure for the trolls on this blog is worse than the disease. If we can't get timely give and take with Islander fans here, I think most of us would prefer going elsewhere. As others have suggested, I think many of us would welcome a registration process if that's what it takes.
Kevin T: I'll leave DP off, since he's an obvious given for number one. There are more than seven that I'd keep (Park, Vas), but since that's the number, here goes, in order:
1: Campoli
2: Martinek
3: Witt
4: Gervais
5: Hunter
6: Bergy
7: Comrie (wait for my explanation before killing me!)
I love our top four D - great mix of age, size, skill, speed, and positioning. Hunter's a very good two-way player. Bergy is our best forechecker, and reminds me a lot of Blake when he first got here. Maybe w/ experience he turns into a good high-energy second line 25 goal scorer.
Comrie's not, and should not be, a first line center, and trying to be one is killing his game. But if the Isles could in the future ice a true first line, then he'd look great on a second line. Ottawa didn't re-sign him only because they needed cap space to re-sign their top line. They liked the idea of Comrie as a secondary scoring threat, and so do I.
MAB probably should have held his tongue, but the truth is, if you're not going to put him out in that situation, then what's the point of having him in the lineup at all? His stellar defense? If Berard was dressed for the game, you can bet he'd have been out there. No point in dressing a PP specialist to sit him on the PP, so I can see why he'd give a "Uh, you sure about this?" to Gallant.
As far as MAB as a player overall, my opinions are well-documented :)
19 ISLE in NJ 22 - "Does anyone believe one or two players are enough to help and push the team to the next level and make a legitimate contender???"
I don't, which is why trading for anything other than picks and prospects, or trading away our own picks and prospect (Okposo)/younger players, makes no sense to me at this time. I think the Isles should pick a core of current players to build around - mostly younger ones like Campy and Gervais, and a couple of vets - and then stockpile as many picks and prospects as they can their hands on. Then they can keep the ones they want, and later, no one's saying that they can't use some of the other ones as trading chips to bring in current players that they want, such a good younger player on a team that can't pay him come contract time, or a vet to guide the youngsters. Rebuilding doesn't have to take five years. That's just garbage that penny-pinching owners tell their fans as an excuse. Philly had a pretty quick turnaround. Are they done adding pieces? No, but they recognized the need to bring in younger talent and did it quickly.
I like the effort our team brings, and I do like the players as well. And I think this team can make the playoffs as is, and maybe even surprise an unsuspecting team in the first round. But having the goal of just making the playoffs every year won't bring a Stanley Cup here...and more importantly, won't build a team that can compete for it year in and year out, especially when you're always replacing veteran FA projects with other veteran FA projects.
Just got a new DP jersey as an early present to go to the game with tonight. Much to my surprise the name and numbers were iron ons and not stitched. Not sure if that is a result of the new RBK technology or not. NHL.com with whom we purchased from couldn't seem to answer that question either. Anyone else have this issue? By the way NHL.com customer service is the worst, last time I purchase from them.
Coral: Only one place to ever get your hockey jerseys and gear.....Rivercitysports.com !!! Second to none!
Comrie: I was the first one to start getting on this guy after seeing him live vs. Carolina. I am not saying he does not have talent. When he is on, he can do some good stuff. With that said, he just reminds me of that SPOILED kid we all knew growing up. The kid that dove for the football in gym, even though the ball was right in his hands, yet if you really needed a diving catch he would miss it! :)
I just do not like his work ethic on the ice, nor do I like the way he tries to be a human highlight reel. Almost like he is trying to be too perfect to get more money NEXT year!
All I can do is root for him. That is what I will do.
MAB: I wrote about his lip the second it happened. We all saw it on TV. Miggsey is correct. Get rid of him immediately!
NOLAN: Love this guy as a coach. Long before he was an Islander. We just have to stop thinking he can wave a magic wand and make some of these guys something they are not......He can NOT change MAB.....He can NOT change COMRIE....He can NOT change Hilbert........These professionals have been taught by the best coaches since they learned to skate. You cannot make someone something they are not. You cannot change someone’s personality. Every now and than you can get more out of players...That is a FACT......You cannot change them though!
On the issue of MAB, I think he is one of the weakest players on the team and his defensive lapses give me fits but I have to agree on his point. The guy's got a cannon and in a 5 on 3 situation he will have the space. Even if he doesn't get to shoot his mere presence will have the defense cheating toward him which will free up tons of space for the likes of Comrie and Satan. I do have to wonder at what the coaching staff was thinking. I also like that he wants to be out there in a situation where he knows he can help. He's probably just as frustrated as anyone with his poor defensive play.
On the flip side I don't think looking like a whiney baby in front of your teammates is going to win over anyone to your side. I have to wonder what the repercussions are going to be now. If he does manage to score another goal will anyone pat him on the back?
Coral Springs,
I for one will be watching on NHL Center Ice and will be the 1st to congratulate you if you get that "iron on" jersey into Mcluhan's Tube of Life.
I'll be interested to see if Center Ice carries the Panther feed, thereby giving me the luxury of listening to Denis Potvin doing the color commentary "against" his old team.
Have watched a few Panther Games and Potvin does a much better job than I had expected. (No offense to Jaffe- he's good as well).
Start DP in net tonight. Last time we started a backup vs. Florida I believe they scored six goals including two wraparounds. Not a highly skilled offensive team but it may be good riddance.
In other news, we need a scoring threat. Comrie would be a great threat, but it would have to come secondary to a much better and proven player. I agree with the second line center that is capable of putting up a good deal of points, but he cannot be out primary threat. When you look at this team, we settled for many 3rd/4th line guys or sleepers and it has worked alright so far, but I don't think we will cut it down the stretch.
Trade MAB and someone else for a scoring threat. Bergeron was brought here to score some goals and help a lifeless power play (at that time we had SATAN at the point) honestly.... it seems as if we need to get rid of him this season for us to have success on the powerplay.
I agree that if MAB is the PP specialist he should be on the ice or don't play him at all. Good to see he got some emotions and is pissed. The whole team should be like that.
As for missed shots, boy oh boy.. forget about the defense how about the forwards. Guerin should be on top of the list. Several games were he has missed the net close in trying to hit the corners. Bill G needs to break out of his funk.
Let them all go out for a night on the town drink it up and get back to basic. Hey a couple of fights might also clear things up.
A lot of games left in the season.
Gallant should be sent back to beer hockey league to gain experience... PP sucks bigtime, thx to Gallant
Isles should give Bergy a chance!
All I know is that if I were running the powerplay, our little rink whiteboard would have 5 X's and they would all have arrows pointing to the front of the other teams net.
"All I know is that if I were running the powerplay, our little rink whiteboard would have 5 X's and they would all have arrows pointing to the front of the other teams net."
Don't forget to put little zzz's over the X representing Guerin :)
(I know he's trying, and I do like him...just sayin')
Steady: Comrie was that spoiled kid growing up. His dad is billionaire.
Coral Springs; The NHL website, i believe offers two kinds of Jerseys.
MAB reaction to me is very positive showing he cares and wants to be on ice. Even when he misses the net our team should be able to pick up the rebound unless he shoots it into the other team
Upstate Isles Fan you've got balls naming Comrie in the top 7 players to keep on this team. But then again, I wasn't impressed with Satan before either.
Why did I limit it to seven. Just to make you guys really think about which players are part of the rebuilding of this franchise. It's hard to pick just seven keepers.
Hmmm... There must be more talent and potential talent on this team than we think!
Kevin T.
Unfortunately anyone with any offensive ability seems to be in Teddie's doghouse .Yeah get rid of him he sucks I think you all forget he is the only one who shoots . Beats the hell out of the rest of the dead pieces of wood out their . Has any one ever noticed this team is built on nothing more than 3rd line players playing on 1st and 2nd line roles .
must admit the Isles have played some real snoozers lately, and after the first in Florida it appears to be more of the same. I agree the team needs some more skill up front but I think it also needs someone to stir some things up out there, make some big hits, create some animosity with the opposition, just create some exicitment out there. Boring hockey is the worst.
I can not agree with you more mike. The Isles just cannot score goals, it's comical at this point. DiPietro is playing great and the Isles cannot put the puck in the net. I'm not sure what the answer is, but this team is boring and when they're not winning it's even tougher to watch.
Any ideas?
After two periods I think ....
1) I feel bad for DP (well, as bad as you can feel for a young good looking guy who makes an insane amount of money playing a sport) but the guy gives it his all and keeps us in games every night and get ZERO support ...imagine if the Isles could actually score 3 goals every now and then ...I realize that crazy because they can't score even one right now ...
2) So, let me get this straight ...MAB isn't playing or let out on the PP but Nolan had the nads to put out a PP that had both Simon and Park on it?
I love this team with everything I've got ...and I'll root for them win, lose, or draw, but it's really sickening that Nolan seems to not let anyone with any offensive upside get any PP time ...he only just let Vasicek out there ...and do you mean to tell me that Tambellini or Bergie couldn't get some time out there on the PP before Simon or Park?
I hope the Isles win every game the rest of the season, but as I've been saying for a few weeks now, it may be in their best interest to finish dead last and pick Stamkos ...
This team is borderline pathetic right now.....If Guerin was not Guerin we would all be destroying him. Has not scored since All Saints day and takes some pretty stupid penalties nightly.
DP is the only true star we have. Beyond boring to watch. No speed. No grit. No spirit. Where have you gone STEVE WEBB ??????
Mr. Nolan....Why is Chris Simon EVER on the ice? He never fights anymore, and has no offensive prowess.
DO SOMETHING BOBBLEHEADS !!!!
***How about Brent Sutter,,,Why is it other teams continually play well know matter who they insert in the line up?
4 months till pitchers and catchers report. Thank God....This team is far far far from a play off team. They fooled us again!
9 minutes left...So far, this could be the worst game I've seen all year. Between the effort and the officiating it's been pretty painful to watch.
Yup, this game has absolutely sucked.
Boy, the way Jaffe's talking you'd think the Panthers were the Detroit Red Wings out there. I think he's ready to propose to Booth.
3-0 loss. Cannot watch any longer.
Does anyone really not know why people wont pay to watch this in person?
As far as finishing last, isn't there a lottery to prevent tanking on purpose? Not that this team could if it tried...
Its just boring, lousy, losing hockey with no end in sight.
Team has absolutely sucked. Who runs the practice? Mickey mouse?
Hey Charlie, Garth - pls force Guerin, Berard, Silly into retirement, while they are right there in FL. they belong to senior citizens golf club, and hilbert can deive their gold cart around.
I meant (on prev note) : Hilbert drive their golf cart around
Man, that was a fun game! Thank goodness for Amstel Lights or I would be destroying my condo right now! This team is a joke! How can you not play desperate against Florida, we sort of owned them in recent years but tonight we were absolutely dreadfull!. So much for Berard, he is unlucky and not very good. Geez, just a pathetic game DP played well, he should beat the blank out of the whole team. The PP should be optional. 2 minutes for Pathetic Play, decline the PP. Well its on to Tampa, looks like we will be 13-13-2 as we freefall into the basement. Oh yeah and those Rangers stink too. At least that makes me happy! Isles are worse than my Jets. Time to go to bed.
Frei ...
There is a lottery ...all the teams that have missed the playoffs are entered in the lottery. The 30th team (last place) has a 25% chance ...it then goes down from there until they reach the 1st team that missed the playoffs ...if some team, other than the last place team, wins the lottery the 30th team can't fall lower than the 2nd pick ...so, even if you finish last while you can't be promised the #1 you'll atleast get the #2
Also idiotic interview of so-called captain w/debby during the 1st break.
Nolan's quote below after getting shutout by Vokoun. Sound familiar? Starting to sound like the theme of the season, ain't it?
I'll tell you what I think... It's starting to sound very... very tedious. I'm tired of it.
Put the puck in the net. Get the fans back. Cause they're losing all that momentum they had at the beginning of the year.
"If you don't get to the net and get traffic, you can't score," said head coach Ted Nolan. "We have to find a way and take it upon ourselves. We have to give more. It's not rocket science. Rick keeps us in every game. We have to support Ricky and we have to generate offense and give him a chance. You have to use your intelligence to counter speed. The bottom line is we have to work harder. We have to find the solution from within. If you don't work, you won't get enough."
Potvins4cups, you obviously don't know squat about hockey, nor anyone else condemning Bergeron on this board. The kid had 14 goals last year, and lit up the board for us when he came over from Edmonton.
So he gets in an assistant coach's face and all of the sudden he's to blame for the scoring drought?
He should kick Nolan in the balls -- who is seeming more and more condescending and egotistical every day.
Good for Bergeron for showing some spirit. Kid should play...
This team needs a serious inventory check.
btw, how many goals does Gervais have this year? Or for his career for that matter... Who made Nolan/Gallant et al so good at evaluating talent... The one smart move done so far is his faith in Rick DiPietro; one of the finest goaltenders in the league; someone who wears his heart on his sleeve night in and night out.
The only thing done right by this coaching staff so far is putting him in the net nearly every night. And shoot, any of us could do that....
two offensive players added is what this team needs two 20 -25 goal scorers,
please trade for offense the team has a good foundation
a player should not yell at a coach like bergeron did if he could play defense he would in there
PLEASE GET SOME OFFENSE SOMEWHERE SOME HOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Blanked by Florida!!!
I am sick and tired of listening about MAB's shot. I liked the trade and remember scoring him his first goal as an Islanders but I have no problem to admit that I was WRONG!
Anyway, I would give him a chance to play on a first line - MAB-Comrie-Guerin might work. If not, there would be no other choice but to trade him. The thing is - who would be interested?
I still like the idea to get Cheechoo from Sharks. But who can we offer in return? Comrie might be the player, but they won't be interested (Thornton, Marleau, Roenick... they don't need a center). MAB? Are you kidding me?
Well, It's hard to admit, but trading Satan for Cheechoo seems real... Here is the list of players I would like to see wearing Isles' jersey:
1, Cheechoo (salary - 2,5)
2, Malone (1,45)
3, Stuart (0,9)
4, Sundin (5.5)
5, Jokinen (5.25)
6, Huselius (1,4)
7, Rolston (2,4)
8, Morrison (3,2)
9, Dumont (2.5)
Personally, I would love to see Morrison centering our first line. He is skilled, proven play maker and was centering Canucks' first line for years. He seems to be in doghouse, playing on 3rd line... Cheechoo with him would be a great dynamic duo. Stuart is a cheap defender, Christian Ehrhoff might be another possibility.
I think we only have two solid defensemen - Witt and Berard. Martinek would be absolutely average player in most of other NHL teams, Sutton is the same case. Campoli & Gervais are both kids and MAB is another story... We need one solid D, first line center and GOAL SCORER who would click with our first line center.
OK, I will stop dreaming... the bottom line is: WE DON'T HAVE ASSETS FOR A GOOD TRADE (our only assets are Satan and Bergeron)... full stop.
Posted by mike bossy | December 8, 2007 01:42 two offensive players added is what this team needs

this is dead on. despite this seemingly endless offensive outage, this team is not too far from competing. they do have a VERY slim margin for error, but 2 decent - NEVERMIND GREAT -shooting forwards could make a real big difference. i would hope snow comes up with something before its too late. that is - before even the remaining fans who really care start dropping by the wayside.
Figured I'd wait to post till this afternoon after I was less irritated. I'm still irriated though. Besides, I figured it wouldn't post till this morning anyway.
One way to sum up last night's game was... I turned the volume off about halfway into the 1st period. I couldn't stand listening to Jaffe's and Rose's voices. I had a sense of doom before even the first goal was scored. They just didn't look like they had it together.
A positive thing to feed on though. Look at the Devils ... they overcame a horrid start and now sit ontop of the Atlantic. Who is going to knock them off? From Philly on down to the Isles the whole division is playing kind of flat. The Isles the flattest of course. However we aren't that far off to turn it around.... We still have 1 and 2 games in hand but we have to win those games..... especially against the Panthers.
SHUTOUT!!!! For God's sake we aren't talking about the Devils or Ottawa or Detroit or San Jose ... We are talking about a sub .500 team here ... The Stinkin' Panthers!!!!
Tonight we play a team that we shut out when things were much brighter in Islander Country. Tampa will be out for revenge on home ice, and they are playing much better than they were in the beginning of the season. The Isles are going to have to "Bring It!!!!"
I see the MAB debate hasn't subsided. My two cents once again. I'm glad MAB was pissed ... he was right. He just picked the wrong time and place to display it. MAB is supposed to be a power play specialist ... and that is why he is on the team. Why is Simon on the ice???? Jaffee mentioned it the other night ... playing on the power play is a priveledge ... Priveledge??? #1 What did Simon do to get that Priveledge??? #2 The whole team has lost that Priveledge according to recent offensive stats.... so who plays on the PP??? Priveledge or not your best passers and shooters play the power play. If someone who is usually on the power play is having an off night ... you might consider someone who is hot to take his place ... "might" being the key word.
The Islanders right now don't have any good shooters or passers for that matter. So you have to rely on a player's recent history to determine that.
You can say what you want about MAB .... or even Hilbert. ... they are having substandard seasons and we are looking for scapegoats. We even bash Comrie. Yes, he probably is a second line center. We don't have a 1st line center... so is it his fault?? I don't care that his dad is a billionaire? Does that make him a worse or better player? That arguement would suggest the son of a destitute single mom waitress from Winnipeg would be a better player. True .. Comrie has issues with his game. He still is talented. The whole team has issues at this point. But, I don't think that his issues, or MAB's or Hilberts ... yada yada are the sole reason the team is losing. I think the whole team is just playing bad. Except for DP. He is still playing great.
We have all ganged up on MAB at one time or another because we simply are looking for someone to blame for our poor offense. Last I checked he was a defenseman. An offensive defenseman that we rely on for some offensive spark, but he's still a defenseman. MAB belonged out on that 5 on 3, especially if Simon was out there. Bottom line. MAB was wrong to mouth off on the bench like that ... it further unravled the team. MAB can be faulted for his passion to win, and not be afraid of being put into a key situation.
Talk about MAB missing the net with his bombs all you want. Yes, he has the accuracy of a water gun in the wind... but the forwards aren't in position to do anything. The forwards also are missing the net .. and it's their specific job to get the puck to the net and make something happen.
Nolan has his favorites ... Simon, Hilbert and Park. They are 4th line talent when you put them on most other teams. Maybe 3rd line in some situations.... that is a big maybe.
We just seem to focus our frustration on the players we have less affinity for. Look at Captain Guerin... What has he done since Nov. 1st? Except for the shootout of course. If that was Yashin we'd be calling for his head. Guerin of course brings something that Yash never did ... hard work and leadership. Guerin's lack of offense is not his alone ... it's the sum of the whole team's inability to score.
Trades:
We will not have anything to offer right now unless some other team is looking for offense and wants to take Comrie as a second line center, or Satan as a second line winger. Maybe even JoVas ... but ...we need offense too ... and what we'd get in return is not going to help if we lose any of the above.
We have lots of 3rd and 4th line level players. But who trades away offense for that??? The defense .. everyone would want our young defensive guns ... Campoli and Gervais ... I'm not willing to part with them. They are a foundation to build on.
Well, it's still early December and a lot of time left in the season. So many things going to happen between then and now to even think that far ahead. However, Snow should be scanning the roster and prospect pool and assess the talent. Amatuer scouting I'm sure is going to get into high gear with the World Junior Championships at the end of the month. The under 18s ought to be an eye opener too.
GO ISLES .. Shutout Tampa again tonight!!!
Saying we got shut-out is giving too much credit to the isles and vokoun. We got completely shut-down by the fact that they had better wheels than us. This is starting to affect my mood
I never complain about the players or coaches.... But teddy.... WTF are you doing with the 4th line on the PP when we are down in the third?
You all can keep complaining about 1st base, but at least he brings amazing pk and defensive responsibility. Simon is absolutley useless. Please switch hilberts name with simon's for future posts please. Thanks
Peace... I'm out
Wow...no MAB and they get what...? ZERO points. Maybe MAB has a point?! Trade MAB to the Caps or Red Wings, maybe a team with talent will show you what MAB can do.
WOW!! That game drained me more than my own game today.
I just caught up watching it on TIVO ... I'll comment tomorrow. I have to get some ZzZz. I see the delay for posting review is back in effect.
