Freddy Meyer on waivers

Trying to clear roster space, the Islanders earlier today placed defenseman Freddy Meyer on waivers for the purpose of sending him to Bridgeport. He has until noon Monday to clear before he can join the Isles’ AHL affiliate.

Because Meyer is in the final season of a deal that pays him $540,000, it’s possible he might be claimed by another team in need of defensive depth. The cost and term of Meyer’s deal would make him a bargain investment.

Once Meyer clears or is claimed off the Islanders’ roster, there’s a good chance free-agent defenseman Bryan Berard would be signed. It’s uncertain how quickly he would find his way into the lineup. The Isles scored on three of four power-play opportunities in their season-opening win Friday night in Buffalo. Defenseman Chris Campoli had one goal while playing left point on the power play.

Of course, the addition of Berard would give the Islanders greater flexibility in determining their defensive pairings. If Marc-Andre Bergeron shows he’s not ready to handle major minutes on defense, it’s possible Berard could take his place in the lineup and on the power play. The fact that Aaron Johnson wasn’t the defenseman placed on waivers also could be interpreted as an indication that he has a chance to get into the lineup to help tighten a defense that was porous in the first period of the opener.

A good move. If last night showed anything, there's really gonna be no margin for error on defense. Meyer is just a less talented version of the undersized D-men we already have. Recognizing that MAB is not the sole answer to the PP or able to handle the big minutes of a 3-4 D-man will help a lot. I'm sure Garth tries to get something for Freddie, but there just arene't any takers right now.

Good move Garth.

Good to hear. I'd be surprised if he doesn't end up clearing waivers to play in bridgeport.

Hey Logan, ya gotta luv Miggsey and his calls. He predicted Meyer before you posted ur blog!!!! Well done Miggsey.

I like Meyer, but something like this had to be done. Now bring back Berard!

Last night didn't say much for the oversized d-men we have either.

Effin campolli....nice!

about time...

I think Comrie is turning out to be a pretty good signing so far, wouldnt you all?

I should say he is. Pity its only for 1 year.

I hope if he continues his play like this throughout the season, Snow signs Comrie to a 3 year extension by All-Star break. But its early. See where things falls soon enough.

I know it's only two games but for the rag troll$...

Comrie- 4g, 6p
Drury AND Gomez- 1g, 3p...

Its early but still enjoyable...

AHL report... B-port 3, Wolf-rags 2...

why do you feel compelled to even mention "rags" or anything related here? aren't there enough isle-related things do discuss without polluting this blog?

I should say he is. Pity its only for 1 year.

I rather talk a little playful smack than this negative dribble...

Looks like the injury to Sim is a sprained knee... Hope he isn't kept out that long, the guy got heart...

hmm... noting the fact that the apparently best offensive player on the team has only a one-year deal is "dribble"?

well your "playful smack", aside from making you look stupid and uninformed, just perpetuates the exchange of garbage here. you aren't advancing the conversation, just repeating the same tired, old, rehashed, has-been, infantile comments. So check yourself. Even better, just get lost. you leaving here would be just like the isles buying out yashin, only cheaper. Buh-Bye now.

How impressive is our leftover line? 16 points in two games. Yeah, all those rags fans sure were right, Guerin is over the hill, Comrie sucks, and "fedostinko" is terrible. HILARIOUS!

How many points does Scotty Gomez and his $7 million salary have????????? I'm surprised he hasn't buried at least 4 goals in these first two games, you know, because rag fans think he'll be so much better than he was with the devils in the rangers "system".

Damn, I really wish we had Gomez and his $7 million salary right about now!

enough already:

aren't you the moron who had us buried a day or two ago?...we have no offense??
sound familiar

Hey Rag fans.....With all that fire power and you guys get shut-out with a 2nd string in net? What's the deal?

Another good win for the Islanders. Comrie has been real impressive in his short time on the Island thus far. Hopefully, he can keep it up all season. The Meyer move needed to be done the Islanders can use a player of Berard's caliber the rest of the season. I can't wait till Monday I will be there cheering my New York Islanders to victory!!!

Lets Go Islanders!!!

Well, to the gutsy "Anonymous" loser who dares to question my cognitive ability, which I can assure you is leaps and bounds above your own, yes I did express concern that this team had no offense. However, if you stuck with the program, and you have not, you would also know that I wrote quite a bit after being very pleasantly surprised by last nights performance, especially that of the first line, and I indicated that if the team were able to continue this type of play, they could indeed be a competitive team that is fun to watch. I'm not yet ready to believe this team is going to compete for the cup. So, very bold mr. anonymous (as if we didn't know who you are), pay attention and get the whole program, or step off. Bye.

I was at the game tonight and I hate to jump to any early conclusions but this team plays so different than teams in years past. They finish checks, always skate, stick up for each other, and aren't afraid to get dirty in front of the net. Comrie looks amazing so far. The one negative that I need to get over is that every time there was a pile near DP, I held my breath for him not to get his in the head. So far so good boys. LETS GO ISLANDERS!!

great start to the season. still 80 games to be played.

that euro salute at the end was pretty lame. fact is if they keep winning they can do whatever the hell they want.

Leftover Line clicked in the second half of the game (have we just co-opted that name and spun it into a positive now?).

Bergeron continues to look lost.

Silly had nice mean streak out there tonight.

Sutton looked better.

See you all at the Coliseum Monday.

I must have just been out the door when the Isles did that. Eh I'm not crazy about it either junk.

On a side note, the JV won down on the farm tonight beating the Wolfpack 3-2. If anyone checks the lineups for each team, they each roll 3 full lines plus two more forwards and then the typical 3 D-men pairings. Is this usual to not have a full 4th line in the AHL and dress 19?

Ever hear a Yash-in / Yash-in chant? Comrie has won over the fans in the first game...and for good reason!

Hilbert is a responsible defensive forward and was brilliant in the 3rd period.

Hunter finished 2-3 big time checks late in the game and was solid defensively all game.

Proud win!

Bossy on Entourage...Lets do it! Christy Brinkley...still looking for that poster; I know I can find it. What year is it?

She was so awesome during the puck drop. The players were either way to focussed for the game; or way to nervous what their wives at home would think if they were caught checking her out.

Favorite play was Sillinger pushing someone off their skates and smashing them into the boards. Played with a mean streak is right. I've liked the last two wins but they've been against a castrated Sabres team, wait till we play a tougher opponent and we'll know how this team will fair. Like what I am seeing so far from the Leftover line though.

Much more speed on this team (Isles) than last year. I saw Buffaloe's talent all series but we nuetralized it for the most part in 4 of the 6 periods of play. I can't see Buffaloe missing the playoffs; they are a good team we beat.

Go to bed Healy; the Sabres are still a good team. We just played better. I will say this; Buffalo has issues on the PP.

In reaction to Enough Already earlier "pity its only for a year comment"
I agree that it will be a pity if we lose Comrie after one year to a free agency where mediocre players were receiving salaries that were much higher and longer than they deserved.
At the same time, lets applaude Snow for not following suit, and finally showing Islander fans that he is able to bring in quality players that are not here for the paycheck alone. For the first time in a long time, I finally feel like we have someone heading the organization that is putting the team in the right direction, both short and long term.
Its only been two games, but I'm confident Snow will take care of Comrie, as he just did with Martinek, if he continues to prove he will be a key to the success of this team.

So, Enough Already, no more unfair comments that are directed at the first GM in a long time that has actually shown some skill and foresight while directing this team.

LETS GO ISLES!!

GO ISLANDERS !!!

Hope!

Whoever asked this above, yes, we have officially co-opted the Leftover Line and turned it into a positive. It's a sarcastic reminder to all the doubters, a badge of pride that our GM outsmarted the experts.

Excellent start to the season. I wasnt worried about the team and I believe this is a playoff team. What is surprising me is how they have gelled together so quickly. There are 7 new faces on the team(throw in berard and new guys that will be on the bridgeport shuttle)and I thought it would take them a good 10-15 games to get in sync and on the same page. Wow was I wrong. They have quickly become a tightnit group and are way ahead of schedule. And on a note to all the experts who picked the isles to finish near the bottom is just plain dumb and not based on logic. They are forgetting one important aspect and that is DP. When you have one of the top 5 goalies in the league and maybe best in the eastern conference those teams make the playoffs. They say philly got better and Pittsburg is one more year of maturity but both those teams have goaltending issues and will not run away with anything. The islanders are here and the nhl is on notice. Lets go islanders.

Here's a NVMC banner:

They're called the Leftover Line because we'll be the only team left when it's all over.

Isles Fans,

First and foremost, I am a huge Islanders fan. But I must say, it is only two games, so lets take it slow before we talk about going to the finals! Do I think we are going to prove many people wrong this year? Yes, more then yes! I truly have that feeling about this team that for once, the players do care, and I mean ALL the players care, not just a few. I truly feel that Billy Guerin is the leader that will take this team farther then it has been in a while. A true, vocal hockey player with more heart then half the league combined.
Secondly, there is no more need to discuss "our leftover line" with Ranger Fans. Let them play their season, we will play ours, and hopefully we both make the playoffs and meet each other so that we can really play some hockey at that point. Thats when it matters! Obviously we want to beat them during the season, but everyone would agree its nice when both teams make it!
Back to more important stuff. We truly do have an exceptional team. I feel that the addition of Berard will only make our powerplay stronger, and reducing Bergeron's defensive playing time is a good thing, even though I do love having him there on the point. I have a feeling that about 25 games in, when we are truly playing and winning like we can, people will start to give this team a little more respect. I will take heart and pride and a hard worker any day over finesse and big bucks.
Good riddance Blake, Yashin, Robitaille. No one wants to hear these names anymore. No one needs to hear these names anymore. Lets talk about what we have now, not what we lost. These are our Islanders, lets support them, because they are a hell of a lot better then most people are giving them credit to be!

My personal Predictions:
Comrie - 37G, 40A
Guerin - 28G, 27A
Fedotenko - 16G, 25A
Vasicek - 14G, 28 A
Satan - 36G, 27A
Berard - 9G, 44 A
Hunter - 24G, 17A
Campoli - 14G, 31 A

*6th-7th in the Conference

Another shout out MIGGSY. Your boy Campolli is playing head and shoulders better than he did in pre-season and last year. Some more nice hits last night and great vision with the puck.

My God how much better is Guerin as a Captain then Yashin????? LOL For those at the game last night, you see him messing with every Sabre that messed with his line mates?

This team is no where near perfect. Way too many penalties last night. Other lines need to start producing. Gervais looks a little lost. With that said they look like a team. They swarm to the puck. They are faster. They are closer. They are a team

Great win last night. Great crowd.

YAH GOTTA BELIEVE.

p.s Avery hows that shoulder doing? Wahhhhhhh Wahhhhhhh. Keep your head up!

p.s.s The thing at the end of the game is beyond poor. No need for the salute!

2-0...Jim... That is a REALITY... CHECK the paper...
"I'm Jim...." I think you owe me one.

Here's something you don't really see mentioned too often. While everybody was whining and complaining about all the walk aways and free agents we LOST, nobody has focused on possibly the two best moves in the last 15 years for this franchise.
Ted Nolan and Garth Snow.
Last year was special. They turned a sinking ship around. after the off season disaster they turned the team from the punchline of the NHL's least funny joke, to a playoff entrant. This year the same thing was starting to happen. Every observation of the team points out what the team lost.
The team, though, just moves forward because of LEADERSHIP. Call them "the bobbleheads" if you want but they are making things happen here again.
I'm not ready to call the parade comittee after 2 games, but there is an underlying theme that can't be missed.
EXAMPLE:
Mike Sillinger. Sillinger alone was a great pick up. But look at Hunter. I don't have access to the players, so I'm just speculating (obviously) Hunter is becoming a MONSTER player, and in my opinion it has a lot to do with a guy like Silly being there to mentor him. Sillinger is AWESOME in his own right, and he HAS MADE THE TEAM SO MUCH BETTER.
I've been a believer since day one... this team is definitely headed in the right direction.
As far as game 2 goes;
campoli is playing inspired hockey. I really didn't think that pairing him with gervais was such a good idea. But he has flourished. I thought that he should have been paired with Sutton because their games would compliment each other... I still think they should be paired, but because MAB doesn't deserve the minutes he's getting with Sutton.
Miggs... he's no Denis Potvin, but your boy is starting to prove me wrong...and I love it!
I'm a little curious about the Meyer demotion.
If they do sign Berard where does he fit in.
Gervais has played okay as the 6th "D", and I hope they don't try to fix the "ain't broke" PP. Campy has done a fine job there [SO FAR].
PLEASE DO NOT RUIN Campoli's start by putting Berard with Sutton, and MAB with Campoli... I envision a turnstyle in the slot... and it's not pretty.
It ain't broke... please don't fix it just yet. I'd hate to see a quality "D" get away...

About the salute. I agree that it was weak. But it was an attempt to say, "thanks"... and I do think Comrie missed a great opportunity to endear himself with the FULL building last night. He should have given the fans a DP-esque "THANK YOU" after his first star interview.

BRING ON DEM CAPS!!!!

:-)

Excellent news... Without Park last year Blake doesn't get 40. He's most likely still on the PK... Blakey prolly needs to send Park a very nice Xmas gift...
I'm guessing that if Sim is going to miss a few games Tambellini gets a call up to play on the fourth line and Bergy moves up to the Sillinger line. that might spark some fourth line offense.

too bad avery, this is what happens to small guys with big mouths! the other guy on the rangers with a bullseye on his back throughout the league is holwegg. i'm curious to see who takes him out. these guys can't do the things they do and think that no one, including the refs will take offense. enough is enough. thank you chris neil!!

IMPRESSED Part II

I think the Isles tightened up the D a bit more and the forwards came back to pounce on the puck and stiffle any prolonged pressure in the Islander zone. I liked that. They seem to be quicker in all zones. The puck pursuit paid off.

As I mentioned yesterday the Isles need to stay out of the box. Seven power plays to a highly offensive team like the Sabres is dangerous. The game was a lot closer than the night before because of the power play for / against ratio.

Granted I think some of the non-calls against Buffalo helped tilt that ratio in the Sabres favor, but the Isles should be used to that by now.

I think the top 3 lines all produced scoring chances and showed great hustle in back checking. Lots of unsung moments with key blocks and stick checks to throw Buffalo off its game. Not to mention some timely heavy finished checks. Hunter stood out the most in that department for me.

It's a shame Sim will miss some time. I saw him really grinding down the opposition. Hopefully it is a minor sprain and he'll be skating again in practice before weeks end.

The D: Flashes of greatness in Camps. Very mobile. The rest of the D improved from the night before. The Sabre power play really generated 8 of their 32 shots on goal, not to mention the pressure they put on after pulling Miller for the extra attacker at the end. They probably could of kept the shots below 30 with less penalties. The Isles are a long way from the 40+ SOG they were giving up on many a night last season.

DP: Just plain solid. Both goals against were not his fault.

My bro is taking his boys to the game tomorrow. I'm sure they are going to have a blast. I on the other hand have to work ... I'll be there in spirit.

Go Islanders!!

Berard should open things up on the power play and add to the rush. I am curious to see how he will click with the DP outlet passes. This makes an already good Islander team that much better.

Can they sign Berard now? Or does Meyer have to clear waivers or get picked up before the Isles can sign Berard? Or does the roster stand at 22 with Meyer on waivers right now?

Don't be dissapointed if Tambellini is not called up. Nolan already said he will not play him on the 4th line. I think if they do call up someone to fill that roster spot it will be Comoeu (sp?). Then you roll Bergenheim up to fill Sim's spot and put Comoeu on the 4th line.

A lot of talk on the pre-game and between periods by Stan Fishcler about Blake's departure and how he was a "me" kind of guy.

you people are pathetic. You have to copy the Rangers salute and more importantly care more about what the Rangers do then your own team. It is two games in and you are running your mouth. The Isles work hard and that is it. You beat a Sabres team that has been gutted (wont make playoffs) and neither will the Isles. They are an exceptional team?? Give me a break.. I respect the optimism but enough already. Worry about your own team and leave the Rangers out of it! Losers

same old rangers, with the great aquisitions of drury and gomez, they still don't have a chance against ottowa. that must have been dissapointing. the problem they have is their best player is a fat cat over the hill whiney euro-trash named jaramir jagr, who didn't want to try hard while playing with washington because he preferred to play in ny for his own selfish reasons. gomez is another piece of garbage, who, while winning cups in nj, secretly always wanted to play for the rangers, again for his own selfish reasons.

ps: good bye mellon head sean avery!!.......LOL

CSI Fan,
I think you may be correct, except that Tambellini may perform better on the PK and a the open spot is for a fourth liner... and Comeau is unproven as an NHL level PKer. Either way it means more ice time for Bergy.
Let's hope that Sim is okay, but let's also hope that Bergy makes the best of his opportunity. (if that's the way it shakes out)

BTW... the Leftover Line is on a first place TEAM.

Yo... Avery got rocked! That was a real dirty elbow to the head though. I guess that's what happens to you when you have his reputation.
Isles look like a strong team. I mean in the muscle sense. Throwing weight around always makes me smile :-). Again I am impressed with the stick checks durin the bufalo transition. Maybe its because our past squads didn't know how to defend a rush. DP looked OK but was WAY out of position on that first goal. To say that both goals weren't his fault is wrong. I'm not worried...he's still the man.
I don't mind that they salute the fans...but do it differently than the rag$$$. Maybe take a lap around the rink...just something different.

Steady: Kudos to you for acknowleding Miggsy and his thoughts on Campoli. For a guy you said didn't have a shot (ask Miller), he looked very good. I think he plays better than MAB in both zones.

bill clement on hockeybuzz:

"Chris Neil’s (OTT) hit on Sean Avery (NYR) was super clean. Neil got an elbowing penalty but hit Avery with his shoulder. Avery was in a “radar up” zone. There are certain areas of the ice, and circumstances of the play, that require a player to have his radar up and turned on. And THERE WAS NO ELBOW! Watch closely on these plays. The elbow comes up AFTER the hit. This happens almost all the time so the hitting player can stay on his skates. It’s a balance thing."

hey Sean - keep your mouth SHUT and your head UP!

Great win last night. I was sitting in sec 112, did anyone else notice the top of the glass cracking was from Sim's missed hit? Man I hope he's not out for any significant amount of time. I would love for him to land a hit like that on some Blueskirt on Wednesday.

LETS GO ISLANDERS!!!!

19 ISLE in NJ 2:

I have to disagree about both goals not being DP's fault. The second was due to his stick check, he lost his position when all he had to was hug the post and let the D do their job. Yes, 50% of the time he would have knocked the puck away but definitely I think it was a of a mental mistake, there was a D-man on him.

2nd class citizens: The rangers copied that stick salute from European leagues so whats your point? Are the Rangers copy cats? Why don't we bring up ice girls or NHL TV (soon to be implemented)...where'd those ideas come from?

As for the optimism...I am happy these first two games started out well but as I said above, Buffalo is pretty castrated at the moment. Without their traditional go-to guys anymore they need some others to step up into that role. That being said their team is very very fast, they will still do some damage this year once they re-gel.

I am waiting for at least december before I really see how this team gels. I don't think Comrie's going to get 2 goals every night and nothing cures problems like winning. We need to see how they respond when things don't go their way. That being said I have better feeling about this team than last years, I do think we've been upgraded over last years squad.

It's still early but I certainly love seeing the Campy finally getting a chance to play. He looked very "Steady" which is nice to see and hear others acknowledge too.
I agree about pairings JP and putting Campoli with MAB would be a death sentence for sure. Denis Potvin would have his hands full trying to cover up for the Mad Bomber. I envision MAB in the press box before long if he doesn't shut down his turnover franchise soon. I personally like Bruno and Campoli together and here's another breaking news bulletin for everyone , " they might not be perfect every shift and every night so don't sweat the small stuff". These two will grow and will learn together so don't be screwing them up. Take a look at the plus minus stats, take a look at the minutes played and you'll soon realize Campoli and Gervais aren't the problem on D.

I just watched the intermission on TiVo. The Maven must be reading my posts... He has full access to the Islander dressing room and he THINKS the players didn't get along with Blake.
There's no doubt the locker room is better without Blake.
Comrie may be the best OFFENSIVE forward to wear an Islander uni since Ziggy.
There's only 80 games left... what's their MAGIC NUMBER (JUST KIDDING)
I may have also happened to mention that Avery/Hollweg were going to have targets on their backs this year. Well the first shot was a BULLSEYE.

By the end of the year those two guys are going to look like CRASH TEST DUMMIES.

And for those guys that say, "yeah, that's great, slam avery then contend with our AWESOME PP"...
Well.. it seemed to work for Ottawa. One down... one to go.

There's a lot of hockey to be played, but 2-0 is surely better than 0-2.

While it's also nice to get off to a good start when thinking it might take about 10-15 games to gel, don't forget that as we form our own personality as a team--other teams will be better prepared to scout our tendencies and try to neutralize them. Also, in a long season, I still believe we'll need a reliable fourth line that can share a better load of minutes.

That said, I thought the Isles did an outstanding job on defense last night figuring out and clogging Buffalo's passing and shooting lanes (see, e.g., Hilbert in the 3rd period). They got a lot of sticks on pucks and at one point--after Buffalo had six powerplays--I think they only had about 11 SOG. They also took the correct angles on D to shut off a number of potential Buffalo rushes. The ice also stunk last night in the heat, so i think that helped neutralize some of Buffalo's edge in skill.

I've never played the game, so I don't hold myself out as an expert, just a fan, but what I do know as an observer is that teams that work hard for 60 minutes get results. If you have no talent, it may be losing 3-1 instead of 6-0, but hard work pays off. That is where Nolan is seemingly unparalleled as a coach--getting his charges to outwork the other team (hence, a "Nolan-type player)--and we are certainly not talentless if not a high-end talent laden bunch. So long as we are healthy and not weary, I expect that effort most nights this season.

My Kodak Moment for the night goes to the Guerin family. Satan's wife routinely brings her infant son to the Isles bench during the pre-game skate to say hello to Daddy, but last night, she was joined by Bill Guerin's wife and his four kids. To see four kids waving at their Dad as he skated by each time was
something to behold--especially if you have kids yourself. It was just nice to see.

One game at a time as they say, so let's keep hoping for the best.

i know everyone in the NHL appreciates what I did. especially you ISLANDERS fans. i just wanted to say youre welcome!!!

Some early thoughts:

Haven't seen an Islander team pass this well in a long time....they're faster too

Vasicek looks good - big and good speed

Sutton/Bergeron pairing is awful

Hunter is great..wish he was faster.

Sim looks like a smarter, more talented Asham

Was at the game Fri in Buffalo and watched last night. Is it me or does Hilbert look quicker? I think it maybe because he has an extra jolt of confidence. The crowd in Buffalo was pumped but when the Isles held on the first 10 minutes or so it quieted down. You could see the Sabres get confused when they realized this years Isles team was quicker and more talented than last years. The sloppy defense on both sides made for an entertaining game for the fans. Last night was more like we will see this year. Thanks to Directv, I got the Sabres feed last night and they were commenting on the obvious change in leadership and surprised by the feistiness Comrie showed especially. Should be a fun year.

Just heard Richard Park signed a contract extension...good move!

Can any of the Isles fans just be happy for the team's start? Pretty classy that you are happy Avery got hurt. Neil hit him clean, no doubt, but it speaks volumes about the lack of class of some Isles fans in here that you are gloating about another player's injury. Pathetic actually, quite pathetic. Some of you guys never cease to amaze me.

Weren't Ranger fans flooding this board just two days ago telling us not to worry because Avery is going to "take care of melonhead Ricky?"

It goes both ways, so let's all step off of our pedestals for now, lol

midnight are you for real? Sean Avery is probably the most "unclassy" player in the NHL today.

the guy has pissed off a number of people off the ice, and he has tried to run opposing goaltenders numerous times (and i'm not even talking about the knee to DiPietro's head last season). I don't think any of us wish an injury to another player but as for Neil's hit last night, Sean Avery got EXACTLY WHAT HE DESERVED.

MidnightMarauder -- Normally I would agree with you, and I don't root for players to get injured. But Steve Avery made a point of finding our goalie in the pile last year and jumping on top of him with the intention to concuss (it worked). And he bragged he'd do more of the same. In my view, players who intentionally injure other players should not be in the league. Ditto for Hollweg, who has a reputation throughout the NHL. The Rangers have a classy coach, so why don't they have tough guys who are also clean players?

wow only ONE rangers comment?!?! thats unbelieveable! since the trade deadline its been non stop BS from ranger fans, this almost looked like a rangers blog. not here anymore...wonder why. Islanders played good, i wouldn't say great, but they've played good, some better then others. they're still a bit shakey. the first line looks great, the hunter like looks great, still wish hilbert wasn't on the line with vasicek and satan. but i'll take it. looking good isles. when they beat the rangers on wed. we should be ranger free on this blog for a little while...

Excuse me, Sean Avery. Who knows where ex-Brave Steve Avery came from.

Thats too bad what happendend to Avery...cough,cough... So where's Berard now that FM the 4th has been waived...

I agree Avery is one of those guys that you hate, except for when he is on your favorite team. But having said that, as much as I dislike several players around the league, like a Chris Neil, I would never applaud an injury to him. Forget your insane loyalty to your team for a second and try to be human for a second. Players getting hurt is something I never root for. My team beating your team and vice versa, that's what we should root for. Someone getting hurt, as much as you might think he is the lowest of the low, is something that I can't comprehend.

i'm sooooo glad that avery got his medicine, he didn't have to try and hurt me in a pre-season game. i still don't know why he trys hurting any goalie. i hope that he's permanently injured and has to retire, or better yet, drops dead!!

Marauder:

Perhaps if you were here for the incessant "Avery is gonna take care of mellon-head Ricky" that appeared over and over on this blog the last few months maybe you'd understand why some of us are grinning. I don't want to see the guy seriously hurt (as in career ending or permanently debilitating) no sane person would, but bruised up and feeling it for a week would be kinda nice.

typical Islanders fans talking more about the Rangers then their own team. Get over it losers and worry about your own team.

The atmosphere at the NVMC was electric last night.
Glad to see the sell out crowd rewarded with a spirited victory.
PS Avery is an ass and got what he deserved... Now someone has to run Hollweg from behind like he does to everyone else.
Oh yeah...the Rangers fans chanting "drive a Porshe Hextall" when he played for the Flyers....THAT"S CLASS !!!!

Healy,

Fair enough my friend. I can appreciate the love you have for your team. I would just like to have some civility in these forums, so we can all talk about this great sport.

Rangers fans telling us to talk about our own team while surfing our blog. LOL ... Now that is classic. You are the "dirty Little Brother" in this scenerio my friend! Move along now!

We're pathetic? You live on our blog! LOL What a LOSERRRRR
