The German league has turned into the Islanders’ farm system at a time when injuries have decimated their defense. General manager Garth Snow today signed Deron Quint, who had been playing this season in Berlin. Snow previously signed Todd Simpson, who was with Hannover.
Neither player is available for tonight’s game against Buffalo, but both are expected at the morning skate tomorrow before the Islanders face Ottawa tomorrow night at the Coliseum. Simpson cleared waivers earlier today, and if Quint clears waivers at noon Saturday, he will be eligible to play. It’s almost assured that Allan Rourke, who is scheduled to play tonight, will return to Bridgeport tomorrow with Simpson taking his place in the lineup.
It’s uncertain whether Nolan also will play Quint ahead of any other veterans. Sean Hill said his groin is fine and the injury he received Tuesday against the Devils, when a puck hit his heel, also is all right.
Quint, 31, is a veteran of nine NHL seasons, but he last played with Chicago in 2003-04. All indications are that he has overcome the alcohol problem that affected his career previously. He’s a two-way defender capable of playing on the power play. This season, he had 18 goals and 28 assists for 46 points with Berlin.
Forwards Ryan Smyth (leg) and Andy Hilbert (shoulder) will be game-time decisions. Smyth took part in the pre-game skate but then stayed long after everyone else left, testing his leg in an extended conditioning session on the ice. He’s worried about whether he can get his full stride. Hilbert’s shoulder obviously is painful and makes it difficult for him to shoot. Both players were injured against the Devils.
“Andy tried a little bit on his own after practice, but he’s a little bit sore,” coach Ted Nolan said. “Ryan will play with one arm and one leg if you allow him to. We’re going to sit down with him this afternoon and see what the best situation for him is going to be, and then, we’ll make that decision.”

I don't write much but certainly get entertained by this site. It's a real hoot. From what I've seen, not playing Hilbert won't send the dressing room into turmoil and the fat lady is getting ready to sing. Finally, are JP, Steady and others really Islander fans???
Come on Steady, tell the truth and shame the devil. You're soooooo shallow. Once you go back and retrack all the horse manure you've been writing and admit your blatant lies, we can talk about your real DP prediction. You said he was finished for the year and he came back. He'd likely still be playing too if not for Avery.
You people love me and it is obvious. You can't leave my name out of your mouth for one blog since Simon killed your season. I look forward to Tuesday night. DoneHam your mine...
Thanks,
Sean 'Your Worse Nightmare' Avery
Geez.
Wir sind alles Inselbewohner!
These two moves seem very strange and almost unprecedented. I can't recall the last time an NHL team had to go raid the German leagues for spare defencemen. Just another day in Islander Country, I suppose. At the very least, our front office is keeping it interesting.
Bruzzer:
JP is definitely an Islander fan. Against his better judgment, I think Steady is too, although his screen name belies his opinions. :)
Sean 'The Amazing Diving Midget' Avery:
You can have him.
Love,
Islanders Country
Yah you got a real pulse of the team up there in Toronto....What a joke...
Go root for Darcy Tucker Miggsey and bring Campoli with you....I only deal with NYers and Kevin T...You are a waste of time!
Please again for all to hear: What has Campoli added to this team this year...Especially of late??
Oh and your other beauty....Rags will in no way make the playoffs!
STAY IN TORONTO and leave the isles hockey talk and watching your borders to us!!!
Miggsey, somethings I think if steady wasn't here you wouldn't even bother posting.
And steady, you've got to work on letting it slide.
Kumbia my lord kumbia...
Everyone, all together!
"All indications are that he has overcome the alcohol problem that affected his career previously."
This whole end-of-the-season situation is starting to sound like a script to a bad movie. I wouldn't expect to see Smyth tonight, based on what a little bird just told me. Hopefully the info is wrong. I'd say Blake and Hunter are going to have to have the game of their careers tonight. Hopefully they're up to the challenge.
Yah Matt the front office is doing a bang up job...They all deserve raises...Especially Milbury....
WAKE UP !!!!
"Interesting" is for ART museums....NOT hockey minds....
GOD....What happened to the old Isles Fans ????
If you do not make the TOP 8 in the NHL you STINK....Stop giving these guys a break...and injuries are not the reason...We crapped the bed before that happened...and other teams WIN despite the injuries!!!
WIN TONIGHT AND SHUT ME UP....NO one would be happier then ME !!!
In partial tribute to my friend Steady:
What's going on here with these bobbleheads! We have to go across an ocean to another continent just to get backup players? Why not scour the Bowery?
1) Quint: "All indications are that he has overcome the alcohol problem that affected his career previously."
Now there's a ringing endorsement! Why not sign Reggie Dunlop?
Actually, check out this link and the staff. It looks like Freddy Meyer may have become part of the "managment committee" and could take take Snow's job as G.M. "Hey Freddie, know anyone who can play defense?"
http://www.deronquinthockey.com/staff.cfm?staffID=1
2) Hilbert’s shoulder obviously is painful and makes it difficult for him to shoot.
Given Andy's scoring touch this season, this could be the break we've been looking for. I predict if he plays, he scores two goals tonight.
3) Steady, I have nothing to do with what gets posted, but if you'd like to meet me outside Doolan's Pub at 6:45 Saturday night, we can drop the gloves and if you win, you can post under my name and I'll post (and get censored) under yours!
steady, i agree. Win tonight and shut us all up.
I think the moves Snow is making are kind of interesting. Don Cherry always talks about great North American players who are playing overseas because no one will give them a chance. Nice to see Snow giving them a chance.
I don't think it is a big gamble. You know, like signing a player to 15 years!
Kevin T.
In the case of the Isles you can actually place a great deal of the blame for their current plight on DP's injury. As much as steady doesn't want to blame injuries that is main reason the isles are where they are. If DP is not injured I would be shocked if they lost that Montreal game as well as that Florida game. Right there are 4 points. With those 4 the Isles would be sitting pretty in 6th place with a game in hand on every team behind them. I know blaming an injury is a cop out, but in this case, it holds water
You're wrong again Steady. I think EVERYONE, every writer on this entire blog would be happier than you if a win tonight finally shuts you up. On the upside, atleast we all want the Islanders to win so take your meds and cheer along with the fans. On a related note, did you fly to Buffalo on a broom stick????
Looking forward to watching this game tonight.
Should be interesting. One thing I have learned is that questioning the management gets you nowhere. You don't have to agree but, they got to have some sort of reason to go sign these guys. Obviously think there is something to gain.
I honestly would like seeing the Isles put an upset to the Sabres today. Even if it brings them closer to the Rags.
Oh my God .....Is Mr. Mature Merrick writing threatning blogs...Where is Logan??? WOW must of struck a nerve on Mr. Perfect...where is Cincy and Jp to come to the rescue....
I do not fight old man, those days have passed...Have a family and career now that cannot be risked scrapping with popcorn vendors.....I would be with my bro if I attended anyway and since he is a NYC Detective he probably would not look to kindly on me pulling an Ogie Oglethorpe on your wee little brain!
Thanks for the offer though!! Big Bad Merrick...This stuff keeps getting better!
p.s Second time you used my "bobbleheads" line...Admit it, it is very catchy...You know you have used it many times now with your boys....I know you don't have to tell me...I'm Good !!
Oh my...
Steady you got called out. The playground, 5 o'clock no friends can jump in! LOL
God...hey man have a blast at the game!
Ich bin ein Berliner
I do hope you enjoy the game Steady. After the beating you've been taking this week ( it's too one sided now), no one more than you deserves a break. Have a cold beer, cheer on Campy and crew and relax.
Steady:
These are not Mike Bossy's Islanders we're watching here. This team had zero expectations coming in, which at least for me is why I'm happy if they make the top 8.
I would rather be interested fighting for the 8th spot than bored in 15th.
Merrick:
All I can think of is that scene where Reg is alone in the stands with McGrath...
Ted Nolan: You cheap bastard. Those guys are retards!
Garth Snow: I got a good deal on those boys. The scout said they showed a lot of promise.
Nolan: Every piece of garbage from the German league, you got to buy it.
Snow: Ted, Ted, that reminds me. I was playing goalie in Wilkes-Barre...
After tonight's game, I'm TOTALLY going to watch that movie.
I flew in on a broom but had to switch to a plane to pick up Campoli as he was sliding on the hwy beneath me...Felt bad for the guy!
Still waiting...What has he added to this team?
STEADIER ~ agree....we probably would have had those 4 pts., but Rags lost THREE top players for months, Toronto lost their BEST DEFENSEMEN and Tucker for months, MTL lost their GOALIE for months, Carolina was without their stars for a month or so.....simply cannot ever blame injuries....
YOU ARE WHAT YOU ARE!!!
Make the playoffs...It is in their hands and possible! SHUT ME UP !!!
I AM ABSOLUTELY DONE WITH THIS TEAM. ITS OVER!
Matt ~
You just made my day...Wonder if the hotel has it!! God that movie is the best thing ever made!
"Who ownssssssss the chiefs ownsssssssssss!"
p.s I realize these are not the bossy Isles....But they could of been the team that beat Pitt that year...VERY similar!
I just think it is a darn shame we have been fooled to think just missing the playoffs is exceptable!
They have to go to Germany because the farm system stinks and has for years.
Matt ~

Oh, yeah, I'm addicted.
I can hardly wait to see those German League players!!!!!!!
Kevin T.
ddddd
I am BANNED AGAIN...I thought I was rather civil!
Steady, what are Toronto and Carolina doing that is so spectacular here down the stretch? Carolina got smacked all over the ice by Philly, and Toronto went down in OT last night. A lot of people on this blog always point to the teams around us as shining examples. I don't get it - when all is said and done, up to this point they've done virtually the same as we have. You're right, every team here has had injuries, and I don't think they've played particularly exceptional with those injuries. Hopefully, we can play just a little better than them in the last six games.
Bummer Steady.
Nobody gets my jokes either.
Kevin T.
Hahahahaha... Kevin T, you're quite the comedian today.
I believe that the motivation for signing guys from the German league is the current state of things at Bridgeport - those guys are fighting for a playoff spot too, and they want to keep their guys together rather than sending 1-6 of them to the Islanders for a game here or there. Besides, Wang can afford to pay them a few thou each per game, right?
Let's go ISLANDERS! Do some Sabre rattling tonight!!
Them = German league guys. duh. brain lost somewhere.
Thanks Chris. I was going to stop trying if I didn't get at least one laugh.
Anyway, gotta go take my daughter to Pre-School. You guys have a great afternoon and keep the faith!
Kevin T... Out.
Had to add the "....Steady" to sign in now...I guess Logan is not that quick at catching me yet...What did I write to get banned?
Merrick was the immature tough guy...
Or is Merrick, I mean Cincy, I mean Miggsey really LOGAN ???? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm ???
Steady, enjoy the game buddy. Miggsey, DP would still be playing if not for Avery? Put the blame where it belongs, the Isles management and a slapper from Jagr. If you keep trying, with Logan's help, you can blame Avery for coercing a confession out of the British sailors in Iran. Let it go, DP's hurt and your team needs to rally around the back-up, case closed. If they don't, no playoffs, period.
Steady: If this was a court of law, the judge would give me, Cincy, AZS, Matt, Mike, Logan, etc a life sentence with no chance of parole for taking full advantage of a disabled person ( are you starting to see a pattern yet???)
What to you take to ease the pain because you are getting pummelled my friend????
Staedy--I do love the bobbleheads line; it's funny. I can picture Wang, Snow, and Milbury bobbles in a row on my desk.
Kevin T.: Maybe NOW you know what it is like to be an Islanders fan.
Chris S.: There is NOBODY at Bridgeport that can play defense. Mark Wooten perhaps, but he's the captain. IMHO, the inability to have Grebeshkov start here on the Island in October, notwishtstanding the acquisitrion of MAB, was a huge management breakdown. What was Milbury doing!!!!!!!!!!!! Damn, I did it again; I used Milbury and thinking in the same sentence.
Why won't you answer the quesion????
What has Campoli added to this team? I am sorry I took Latin in school so do not know how to ask in French?????
PLEASE ANSWER...
Thanks John ~ DP....Actually fired up either way...Sabres are a fun team to watch, place will be slamming, and might be the last meaningful game of the year!
Imagine a win...Ohhh my God...I might have to call Merrick to help me out in the parking lot!
p.s How am I getting pummelled Migs ?? I have been right and you have been wrong...Some people agree with me and you agree with you! You are from Toronto I am from NY....I WIN !!!
Anyone have any idea where Zednik went?
I said it first, for all practical purposes the season ended when Rick decided to charge the blueline against Montreal. Now everyone gets to reap the rewards of such a blatantly idiotic play. What's the difference if they even make the playoffs now? We get to see them destroyed by the first seed? Boy, what a treat that would be. I hope next year Rick will stay in his net, if he's not a vegetable. And would someone please make Yashin disappear? Just get rid of him, and get this shameful debacle over with. And Mr. Wang, you aren't fooling anyone by trying to hide Milbury in upper management, just insulting us.
p.s Merrick I got the spelling of my name wrong...pretty funny actually..Damn Math classes.
Anyway I was going to write:
Merrrrrrrrrrrick in reference to your long boring bits of info, but I thought you might threaten me again tough guy. Plus I did not think you or your peeps would get it...Being the same person and all!
Rock On....
Steady: I'm typing this very, very slowly so you can understand the answer (again) to your Campoli question. Be a good little boy and scroll back through the blogs and you'll see I responded right after you asked the question. Geeez, you are a quick study!!!
Miggsey~
Just for one quick laugh before the gmae...Repeat yourself and let the new guys read it....It is that funny!
Pleassssssse one More time !
Talk about his slap shot and his fierce checking...That is my favorite part...Actually others like the part of the "new NHL" that is always a good one. We like when you make him sound like one of the Sabres young studs....No no no wait, tell the part about how he is a leader...That's the best part!
Steady, you've supplied more comic relief today than I could ever hope to do. At least your response, no matter how inaccurate and edited it is to suit your simple little mind, acknowledges you at least remember reading something. I'm going to take that as a positive. Next week we'll work on the comprehension component with you. Enjoy the game and remember to take your pills.
This whole argument is a lot more entertaining when I imagine Miggsey, Steady, and Logan as the same person with multiple personalities.
For the record, I don't think Campoli is exactly anchoring the defense, but I don't think he's been bad at all either. I think he's done better than Gervais did when he was in there, but I believe both will be pretty good in the near future.
Upstate Isles Fan: That's all I've ever been saying too. Steady needs some help so try and work with him in his times of trouble.
If steady and migs are the same person, they need to start watching games with me... just imagine that. Cheering and complaing about campolli...at the same time... what a picture
Campoli needs to stop going out so much at night....i see him everywhere!
Off to the pre game drinks.....If they win send a caravan to save me b/c I will go nuts and start making drunken bets we beat them in the playoffs.....lol
Miggsey ~ If I see Campoli I will tell him to give you your undies back!
Merrrrrick ~ Put on the foil I am sending the PW goon squad to Doolans on Saturday!
DP ~ John ..... Rock on!
Logan ~ Stop shutting me down or you will have the same person talking to himself about how in 2012 we might make the playoffs
Everyone Else ~ Cheer hard..Might be last big game...
Steady-
I'm bringing Chris Simon's stick
Have a good weekend and let's hope we're both happy after tonight's game.
Thanks Steady, we've finally found something useful for you to do. While you're at it, talk to him about what he brings to the team :)
God speed steady
beating buffalo would be so freaking huge. No one is expecting a win... think about what it will do for team confidence.. plus if we get some help from other games in the next 2 nights. Yo... my boy dunham better be focusing right now. Visualize the puck brutha... contain those rebounds... i have faith in you
Ok, I just threw up. FIVE goals??? Two shorties?!?!? I've seen more heart in a corpse. Please pull Dunham at intermission. Doobie'll probably be the backup next year anyway, let's get it started for next year. I can't believe I'm writing this and the first period isn't even over yet.
I can't even begin to describe my disappointment with this team. It was only a few weeks ago when I was actually believing that this team would, not only make the playoffs, but that they could make a run in the playoffs, especially with the way dipietro was playing. I have been a die hard fan of this team since I can remember, and I am only 23 so i was not around for the glory years. Damn this team for getting my hopes up, in thinking that they would actually win their first playoff series in 15 years. Fortunately for me, I have not had the "pleasure" to watch this debacle tonight since I am currently not in the area. But I was against dunham playing from the start and forsaw this barrage by the sabres against 65 year old mike dunham. I also wonder if this team is so deflated to the point where they are giving up, but that would be more disappointing then anything. Either way, I can't even begin to describe the disappointment I am feeling right now.
Wow, this team has QUIT!! Geez... 2 pts out and decimated by injuries and all of a sudden its St. Bonaquitter... My Isles... nice job Nolan!! Nolan makes excuses and the team QUITS!! Nice Friday night!! Thank you Islanders!! These are MY Islanders! Playoff tix tommorow you gotta be kidding!! Baseball Time, I guess!
The worst thing that happened to us was that Dunham had a decent game against NJ before he dried up.
I'm been pulling for them to start Doobie during this whole DP headache soap opera.
Like it or not, we're going nowhere faster than you can say short handed goal(s) with Dunham, why not roll the dice with the Doobie-smurf.
Could be a great story in the making, but if he never plays we'll never find out.
Hey, they're only down 4 goals... that's not impossible to overcome!
Dubie is starting the 2nd period too!
Let's go ISLANDERS!!!
Lets Go Islanders!!
Dubie makes this game fun!! Well fun in a 5-1 deficit kind of way!
Dooooooooobiiiieeee!!
I had to put the kids to bed so I've missed the start of the 2nd period, but I'm glad to hear Doobie's in net. LET"S GO ISLANDERS!!!
can we bring back hextall?
Is Hextall in the German league??? if so then we have dibs.
two things. Now I really don't care if we make the playoffs because we'd play the sabres and from the ass kicking there taking right now that would be a 4 and out series. Ive always had the suspicion there afriad of starting doobie because, what if he turns out to be better than DP? imagine for a moment he starts the rest of the season wins all the games and they make the playoffs. they will have to give him the backup spot next year. then if DP got hurt for an extended period of time next year and doobie went on a tear then theres real trouble in paradise. Its just a thought and it might not be right. I love doooobie though. hes all hockey and you can tell how much he likes the islanders from his helmet, plus gets got F*cking yoda on his helmet. cant wait for oksposo and tambellini next year. just figured id type random thoughts rather than watch the slaughter on TV. God speed fellow fans, maybe we can pull one out against ottawa tonight (chuckle chuckle)
Correction** TOMMOROW night
2nd period over... no goals against! Goooo Dubie! Hey, he looks like he's having fun out there.
Dubie knows it's all gravy from here on in. What does he have to do to prove that he doesn't belong in goal, give up Six in the third?
We still have a chance!
Lets get dirty for crying out loud.... we suck... I don't care if we lose... but throw me a freaking bone here.... where's the effort... we should be desperate... now no one should wonder why people like steady are always negative.... man... dunham is cool... but can't play in this league anymore... maybe the assitant gm next year.??,? Next year seams so far away.... why..... why are we such a dissapointment EVERY YEAR
5-2!...at least we arent embarrassing ourselves right now...Go Isles! Show some pride for crissakes!
F the rangers and Avery
5-3!!...alright i cant jinx this and move from the computer...dammit i have to go to the crapper..c'mon isles beofre i pass out!!
Well, that was an excellent game for the Islanders against the awesome Sabres. They didn't embarrass themselves at all. They stayed gritty and played with lots of heart.
Thank goodness the Habs screwed up and Carolina managed to lose again. Now all we need is for Kid Sid and crew to blast a few extra goals against the Leafs tomorrow and the Islanders are STILL IN IT!! YESSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!
I swear if Nolan starts Dunham tommorow I am gonna freakin scream. Dubie better play.
The most interesting thing about this game, for me, was seeing the Isles deflate with Dunham in net and then pick it up again with Doobie.
After Dunham let it that second goal, the team seemed to just lose all confidence. It just looked like they don't have much faith in Dunham between the pipes, and I don't blame them.
I've been a fan of Coach Nolan's all year, but sticking with Dunham recently has me very confused.
if i did the math right... Dunham has given up 24 goals in 12 periods. A 6.0 GAA
You think F-ing NOLAN gets the point now? Start Dubie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What the hell has taken so long? UNBELIEVABLE!!!
Crazy thing is if Dubs starts the rest of the year (Sit DP cuz the future is more important, we might still get in. All the playoff chasers are terrible!!
LETS GO ISLANDERS STILL 2 Points out!! funny :)
How can they start Duh-nam tomorrow?? It's obvious from tonight's 1st period that the rest of the team is deflated/flat/demotivated when they see him in goal!! Snow/Nolan better friggen get a clue from what they saw.
Yeah, general question again... how come I hardly ever see NHL coaches "becoming animated" with their players during the game?? Most coaches in the NBA, NFL, and MLB have no problem with raising hell. NHL coaches, not so much.
1 to 5 with Dunham
3 to 1 with Dubbie
equals 4 to 6 loss.
Hello! Which goalie should I play???
Kevin T.
Dunham should just do what's right and step down. Give Doobie a shot!
i think I've calmed down enough now to sleep. no more coffee before an isles game.
I'm certainly not proud of the way they played in the first period. And Dunham wasn't the whole problem. That would just be an excuse. Obviously Dubie should start aganst the Sens. But the 1st period effort was embarrassing. The first time I've felt that way all year.
But 2 things should be obvious from tonight's events...
First, this playoff race is far from over. The Canes are in the crapper, and the Habs and Leafs each have a schedule just as tough as the Isles. The 8th spot is entirely up for grabs. Maybe even the 7th if Henrik has finally lost his midas touch.
Second, the Sabres are vulnerable. Their bad stretch recently wasn't just a fluke. They're soft on D and they can be had by a team that plays smart and a reasonably hot goalie.
I suppose we'll see just how much pride this team really has tonight. Nolan will play Dubie from the start - that seems obvious from his post-game comments. So, no more excuses.
TALK ABOUT OUTMATCHED....What a joke tonight...Team is playing for their playoff lives and they lay an egg like that in the first period against the best offense in the league.....
I was at the game....Poor passes, lazy play, ZERO grit in the first, etc. etc.
IS Dunham shell shocked and way off his game, YES...But give me a break.....I counted 6 full/partial breakaways in the first period.........SIX!!!
Starts at the top...When NOLAN started making excuses (awfully like Milbury use to do in the papers) is when the team lost their grit...That is coaching 101 ~ NEVER make excuses.
Chris S .... Do not be happy or fooled that we came back in that game...They let us back in that game..They played almost bored and merciful (wrong by them) in the last two periods..They started taking stupid penalties and the second period was simply a game of keep away...It is not like we forced the play...The crowd was LAUGHING at our skill level. The second we got within two in the third they came right back on got the 6th which was the nail in the coffin.
Cincy ~ Have you ever heard the press audio when Coach Mora say "Playoffs....Playoffs? Playyyyyyyyoffs? That is me when you write your rosey colored BS after a loss like this...STOP KISSING A^^!
If you go back and read my post after the Sabres ~ Devils game I said we would give up a minimum of 6 goals...Not tooting my own horn, it is that easy to get a read on this beat up ~ poorly inspired hockey team.......
I am sure you all are going to tell me how it is not over, Wang will fix it, we are injured, blah blah blah blah blah blah.....Enough already....Right now we STINK!
So to add to our off season woes to go along with Blake ~ Smyth ~ getting a hockey guy to run things ~ DP's health.....Has the game passed Nolan by? He was and maybe still is a very good coach, but he use to do it with the muckers and grinders and the NHL is not that way anymore...Seems to me this team has tuned him out already!
This steady person seems to live to hate this team.
Dude, they were expected to finish 30th and have had a lot of injuries to put them in the position of making mistakes. This is not a video game and it's not easy to simply put in AHL players and keep winning.
And stop with this junk they are poorly inspired, they have a lot of stop-gap players in the lineup and without the a goalie who's taken them this far and they did the best they could, mistakes are going to be made having Robitaille on the point or gambling against a fast team they don't have many options.
Jeez, you already got Blake and Smyth gone and DiPietro with long-term problems, your not objective or just want a reaction from everyone, why don't you wait and see what happens, you have all summer to whine and complain.
Give them some credit for the next eight days getting as far as they did and give them some support until they are eliminated or they get in and see what happens. They have had a good enough year to earn that much from a so-called die-hard fans for their efforts.
Unless all you can do is complain.
IC ~
Give them credit fo getting as far as they did??? If you do not make the playoffs in the NHL you are a joke...PERIOD!
Support them??? I was just in east bum f^*k Buffalo while you were on your couch eating cheeze doodles!
As for the so called experts picking them 30th...Those predictions are from writers at Sport Illustrated who do not know the difference between a hockey puck and a wing ding.....Isles have a good team and have had one all year.....I agree injuries have now caught up with them, but stop the BS about they play hard...They were sinking like a stone long beforet the injury bug, and AGAIN many teams have a lot of injuries.
I refuse to become a "Bruins" type fan that just keeps drinking the coolaide and showing up year in and year out like Harry sinden and co. trained them....It has been 15 years of HELL for this once great franchise and time to stop settling for being in 10th place b/c some nerd writer at a magazine that plays nintendo all day tells you they should be 30th!
Sports is about capitalizing on the here and now...Fact is they were having a good year....Then fell apart. Detroit Tigers were picked to be in last in 06...Mets were picked to be in 4th....Cards were not considered to be in the playoffs....Jets were picked to be 2-14 last year...Oilers were picked to be in 28th last year, Carolina was picked to be 19th last year....The list goes on and on....The MAGAZINE GUYS KNOW SH^T !!!
Steady you said you were "done" with this team ...why are you still watching them and posting about them ...
be done with them like you said ...we don't need "fans" like you around
Speedy....
Isles have a good team and have had one all year?
Are you out of your mind?
This is a slow club that never knows where it's next goal it's coming from, it's gotten a lot more out of a lot less all year until it was overwhelmed with injuries to where they could not longer compensate without DiPietro.
You are aware you can play hard and still not do well.
And this injury bug goes all the way back to Martinek and Yashin, still they battled from six over back to five hundred to ten games over five hundred.
That's a lot of inspired hockey from a lot of players like Witt and Hill who normally do not play over seventy games and have to play 30 minute games.
The only one acting like a joke is you to call every other team that does not win a cup a laughingstock.
Why don't you save the complaining for the next eight days, if your going to go to be this miserable afterward you should not attend because the gloom and doom you bring here is beyond anyone drinking
cool-aid but your hatred and anger getting the best of you which we have to read.
Take a few days off, win or lose tonight.
Steady, I have to say as someone whose first sports moments were lived at the Coliseum in the late 70s, I admire your passion for the team. But your venom doesn't help. You don't have to be drinking the team Kool-aid to say, boy they really sucked last night, now let's see if they can bounce back... against a team they couldn't beat 6 on 3... Actually, the light at the end of the tunnel may just be a freight train after all. let's go isles!
Steady my boy...
To quote you... "Sports is about capitalizing on the here and now."
But a few days ago I distinctly recall you whining about about Snow selling the farm for Ryan Smyth. You complained because we didn't get any "signed" players. In fact, you said you were upset that Mike York's 9 goals, -19 and $3 million contract aren't still with the team.
Well, which do you want? Signed contracts for the future? Or "here and now"?
And while you're at it, I'm still waiting for the other 99 players besides Paul Mara and his -17 that were traded at the deadline with years left on their contracts. You said you could name 100.
Baby.
Steady: The other bloggers since last night's game ( Cincy, Brian in Li, IC, AZS, )once again more than summarize the overwhelming feelings about your attitude, your posts and you as a person in general. It's time to call it a day, admit defeat and sail off into the sunset because you are a badly beaten man. I'm even starting to feel bad on a personal level for your sorry ass getting kicked so badly, so regularly. Go now, lessen the pain and avoid further shame. It's getting gruesome.
Did anyone catch this at the end of the first period last night?
As Dunham came skating off the ice, the rest of the team was filing back into the tunnel behind the bench. Yashin, Satan, and Kozlov all glanced back at Dunham. To see the look on their faces, you'd think Dunham slashed their tires. It's also possible they were about to apologise, but I'm going to go with "really, really pissed."
Unbelievable that every other team lost too. Talk about missed opportunities...but the product that's out there now ain't a playoff team.
Maybe the sights of Deron Quint and Todd Simpson will make the Senators think it's 1995 all over again.
I'd rather see a German Shepherd between the pipes than Dunham.
Dubliewicz better play.
I think its been seen before. A team, that for whatever reason, will not play in front of a certain goalie. Must be part of what is happenning here.
Kevin T.
Hey Steady, don't take it personally! We are all here to support the ISlanders, however it may look. Having a blog like this, where people actually post more than once every two months shows there is passion for the islanders- right here and now. Let's watch Doobie steal a win from the senators, LET'S GO ISLES!
I know its been written previously, but the team does look more settled when Doobie is in net. That could be because when he comes in we are already down by a few goals and the oposition lets up a little. Many people blame Nolan for not starting Dubie. I for one do not. He is the BACK UP. That said, if he doesnt start Dubie tonight I will throw my Becks through the TV. I'm taping the game because I will be in Hershey watching the Bridge play. I'll let you know how the youngsters look.
Yet another Steady comment...
I think if perfectly appropriate to express your disgust with management, coach, and/or players. But often you open up attacking a fellow forum poster for their oppinion. Maybe pre-scan your posts for personal attacks prior to hitting the POST button.
Just a suggestion.
Kevin T.
I forgot to ask. Has anyone seen an update on Smyth, Hilbert, or Zednik? Is Zednik done with the Isles?
Good suggestion Kevin, hopefully your man will listen to your guiding thoughts because the rest of us have been striking out. As Cincy rightly said, it's far from over. The home games left, the other team schedules and few breaks here and there can see us grab the last spot. Let's not give up, let's turn it up. Let's go Islanders!!!!
I freely offer the use of my neighbor's German shepherd as backup goalie so that Dunham can watch the game with Zednik from the proverbial "undisclosed location."
Go Sound Tigers!
Miggsey ~
funny the only time you post is to come at me...Okay I'll be like you and Cincy and the rest of the sheep even though I have forgotten more hockey then you all will ever learn:
Here it goes....Just so I can be like Miggsey ~ Cincy and the girls who sit on their hands at games and dream of a 2012 draft pick that will save us:
Guys this team has played so well all year...They fought through so many tough breaks gee whiz. I think Snow and Mr. Wang have done a gee whiz great job and everyone tries so hard. If we win tonight we can turn it all around gee whiz. Boy I hope Miggsey and Campoli agree with me...I hope Cincy and Logan since they are the same person will still give me free soda pop at the games....Oh boy I hope Dubie plays tonight b/c I am so ignorant I love all back up goalies and back up QB's alike gee whiz !! I think Smyth and Blake will sign b/c gee whiz why wouldn't they stay around this great team that lost 7 of their last 9 in the most important stretch of the year!!!
MORAL OF THE STORY Miggsey ....I COULD CARE LESS if any of you morons agree with what I think...I get 20 times more posts to me then all your BORING trivial comments combined....It is HYSTERICAL...You are like sheep...Bahhhh Bahhhhh ... Keep following the heard Miggsy ~ AZ ~ and therest of the lambs..And 100% of my predictions have come true and you all have been dead wrong about a team you say you know soooo much about.
Miggsey for all...Just one more time.....Tell us WHY CAMPOLI IS SO GOOD AND YOU FEEL HE IS A GREAT DEFENSEMEN.......Please Tell...Inquiring Minds want to know ....
Again .... Stay in Toronto and leave the hockey talk and guarding your borders to us..
Hugs and Kisses ~ The guy who went to the game last night while you were home playing Dungeons and Dragons with the glee club!
does dubliewicz start tonight?!?! (hope so)
Seriously, where is Logan and Zipay. Games start in two hours and nothing? No line-ups no mention injuries and etc?
Whats the deal?
i used to be a semi-regular poster here but since Steady started posting i have stayed away. Although i do agree with him on Campoli this year the rest of what he says is incoherent at best (i know that he will come at me for that last statement) He has bashed the only local reporter that actually gives us any decent info regarding the Isles and he (steady)has basically taken the pleasure out of reading the mostly interesting posts from the rest of the fans. Anyway just my opinion (which i'll probably get bashed for.)
Disagree with you uncle. Although brash, Steady is the only one that does not sound like everyone else on this blog. At least he fights for his team and shows some passion!
Jut my opinion. He just needs to relax, but he sure is entertaining!
LOL Aunt Jr. - who says Isles fans ahve no sense of humor LOL
Stay in the nut house where Tony put you "uncle jr." I respect your opinion though!
You know how in Hockey you do not boo a guy unless he is worth booing...Kind of like the Rag$ fans, that say "POTVIN BLEEPS".....Well If old #5 was not that awesome, do you think they would still despise him 20 years later???....Well keep booing me!! At least I know I am good and being heard! Now if Wang only read this BS !!!
Thanks Auntie :) !!
Wow, I leave the blog for a couple days and all hell breaks loose. And I think I agree with Aunt Jr on one level - I don't agree with some of Steady's methods but I'll defend to the death his right to support his team in the way he sees fit. Lord knows I called out half the people on this board for negativity just 2 weeks ago, so I understand the different personalities and such.
As for the current game, I pray Dubie starts tonight. I think sticking with Dunham so inexplicably long should cost Nolan the Jack Adams award (if he would've even won it at this point anyway). Hopefully next year he has assistant coaches who will stand up to him and try to explain something isn't working.
All hope is not lost, however...2 points out, 5 to go...let's show some fight now, boys! Do it for us and FOR YOURSELVES
-Nick, President of the "Keep Ryan on LI Fund"
LOL - and here i thought you were gonna crucify your old Uncle. Maybe you aint so bad after all. regardless- we are still 2 pts out - Lets go Isles. Campoli sits tonight ?
This fellow Steady - I've studied many like him in my work. A classic case one who has a fear of commitment, most likely due to past rejections and failures in life. This syndrome most often results in an inferiority complex.
Fear of commitment… in the context of a sports fan causes one to be severely critical of any and all efforts on the part of his favorite team to achieve success, no matter what form those efforts might take. Thus, there is no overt commitment to one’s team and it’s apparent direction. Accordingly, failure on the part of the team results in no feeling of personal failure on the part of the fan. If the team wins, the fan is happy about the win (since it’s still his favorite team). If the team loses, the fan takes solace in his perceived “100% accurate” description of the deficiencies of his team or it’s management. This is simply a way of avoiding at any cost even the appearance of defeat and personal failure. One might term this person the “ultimate whimp.”
Inferiority complex… because of various factors (lack of parental approval, rejection by the opposite sex, feelings of inadequacy due to the comparatively small size of certain body parts), the subject projects his own feelings of inferiority upon anyone who even suggests his own personal failings. Such an attitude usually manifests itself during common dialogue in the form of personal attacks on the character of those who might have an opinion that differs from his, rather than providing rational reasons for his particular stand on the issue at hand. This condition is most likely to reveal itself when the subject is backed into a corner and is having trouble defending his particular opinions.
This combination of conditions is really a sad, sad situation. Constant complaining and whining is often accompanied by adolescent-like rantings. One also tends to make verbose claims of one’s own grandiosity, inventing tall tales of his supposed daily exploits, accomplishments, and occupations of family members. It’s also common for a person with this condition to claim legitimacy because of the number of people who voice displeasure with his child-like, caustic and dysfunctional behavior.
It should be noted that in such a situation, there’s usually no hope.
Damn Dr. Zigmund... sounds good... now can I get that in english???....
FSN 2 = OFF AIR. I hope the Islanders front office knows that here in Westchester, NY, Time Warner does not have a FSN 2. Which means NO ISLANDERS ON TV. The only way for me to watch the Isles is to pay for a premium NHL package as if the Isles are some "outside market team". Insane and poor business for the Islanders. I can't wait for Verizon to offer a TV package so I can dump Time Warner. GO ISLES
On that note, does anybody know if our contract with Cablevision expires at the end of this season? Hopefully at that point we'd go to SNY for more money and better/easier exposure. Anybody have any information on that?
Hey Zigmund aka Miggsey
....You ever see the Geico commercial when the Caveman listens to the lady rant in the split screen? I will give the same answer....
Uhhhhhh what?
p.s Nice that you have the time to write a novel on a Saturday night...Love life must be going great...
By theway happily married form many years...and YES get crushed every time my beloved Isles lose along with the Mets and JEts.....and if you read what I write about the Mets there is not one negative comment doll boy!
Maybe you should get a new livelyhood.....
oh and Campoli is -1 uhhhhgain!
Sorry everyone. My son stole my medical books again. He has no friends so writes on these blogs instead of going out with others. I will put him back in his restraints later.
p.s The "guarding your borders" line crushed my Miggsey aka Zigmund Alice Freud.
This Miggsey or Ziggy guy from up North is whacked! Steady must of really got under his skin. MAybe Campoli is his brother or something. Either way thank God he does not analyze me! Then again I think he has Steady all wrong. The guy just loves his team and hates what it has become.
p.s Lets Go Isles !!
Seasons Over! clap,clap,clap-clap,clap
Seasons Over! clap,clap,clap-clap,clap
Seasons Over! clap,clap,clap-clap,clap
In the immortal words of Micheal Ray Richardson, "the ship be sinking."
It was fun while it lasted.
Best thing I have read from you all year.
You are a Mets Fan.
Keep the good stuff rolling pal.
LETS GO METS!!!
Above was for you Steady
Zigmund-
Was that Steady or my ex-wife you described?
Well tonight I felt bad for the guys...Blake looked like his heart was broken.....If the bobbleheads let that guy go, then you will really see my head spin.
For those that doubt the skill of Rick DP, look at how bad we are without him. Look at how many shots a night this team gives up....Look at the difference in PP ~ SH ratio.....
Sad the season is over...I truly was hoping I was wrong.....
Lets Go Mets......
p.s Umass ~ Not sure where in MA. you live, but DP ~ Gomez ~ Potti ~ Pandolpho are opening a ice hockey rink (training facility) in Andover MA.....If you got kids sign them up....Ages 3-15
p.p.s ~ Do I owe Zigmund aka Miggsey money for his diagnosis? lol
WOW ~ Who gets to give him advice for writing that about a guy posting about hockey??? two words Miggsey = LIGHTEN UP !!
Zigmund aka Miggsey aka AZ:
Campoli in the past ten game = MINUS 11
MINUS 11
That is during our 10 game slide and during the most pivitol part of the season.....
So rather than writing childish insults under assumed names, ADMIT YOU WERE WRONG....THE GUY BLOWS !
Anyone know why Simpson didn't play? Oh wait, check this out from www.tsn.ca...
Notes: D Todd Simpson, signed by the Islanders on Thursday, didn't play because the NHL honoured a suspension he incurred while playing for in the German league. Simpson was suspended indefinitely for abuse of an official, pending a hearing Monday . . .
Bad news guys. I went and saw bridgeport in hershey tonight... and I have to admit... nothing special at all. Granted, the goalie (thompson) was horrible, but I still saw nothing special. I didn't recognize anyones names but a few. Fata was bad. Even comau did nothing to impress me. I know we have bergy and nikolainen abroad, so lets hope they're coming to a level they need to be to help us soon. I wasn't expecting much. Shoot, the only reason I went is because hershey, pa is only 25 min from me. This only makes me hope that snow makes some decent moves with free agency. It makes me think that our scouts are horrible.
On a positive note, these guys in my section, (season tik holders), had nothing but good things to say about tamballini and dubie. That made me proud until they showed the nhl scores. I haven't seen the game so I can't comment. This sucks... I have to wait till 2am to see the replay of a loss. Still........... LETS GO ISLANDERS
It is a sad day. I don't think they are mathematically out it, but probably close.
How did the German league players do?
How well did Dubbie play?
Did Smyth look back to normal or did he look like he was playing injured?
Apparantly I am wrong about the Canucks not having enough grit. In CBCs Coaches Corner tonight, Don Cherry said he likes them this year and they have team toughness. It was funny though, Cherry mentioned about 6 Canuck players and didn't pronounce one of their names correctly. At one point I thought he was going to call them the Vancouver Leafs. I guess I should feel priviledged that Cherry even mentioned us.
Calgary is playing a tough physical play-off style game tonight. Canucks are down 3 nothing after 2 periods. But since Cherry said they are a gritty team, that means I am wrong. Cherry knows everything, just ask him!
Kevin T.
How was the game tonight? I wouldn't know cause Time Warner does not put on Isles games when big Sporting events are on like Mets re-runs or Rangers, knicks, Darts, Bowling, fishing, and lastly The New England Clam eating contest. Dump Time Warner and get our own broadcasting channel. Put it on the Isles TV when they black it out so some of us can watch it.
Looks like the season is over and Edmonton will be getting a nice HIGH draft pick. We need to resign Smyth for next year and figure a way to drop Yashin. How bad does that Yashin for Spezza trade look now. Way to go Milbury.
What happened to rolling four lines? It's the defense that's hurting. Nolan hasn't been playing the 4th line in weeks(maybe 3 or 4 shifts a game). I realize if were always killing penalties that there is less time to go around but we need to be able to roll with 4 if we want to play this "energy game" I've heard so much about.
Also am I the only one who noticed that no one came to the defense of Blake at the end of the game when he was run into the boards and then cross checked. There seems to be no club cohesiveness, no heart, no fight. What a perfect oportunity to just show you still care about your team mates, your team and the fans. Some should have dropped the gloves and pounded the ottawa player.
Anyway this 12 game slide has shown some glaring defincies in team speed and character. I pray we get a full season of a real captain (i.e.Smyth) and see what other upgrades we can make in the off season. We sure as hell need them.
I have posted complaints about NHL TV coverage contracts as well. I have sent several emails to the NHL. Only ever got one reply with a lame excuse.
Well I can tell you that if the Canucks lost Luongo and half our defense to injury, we'd be history too. There is always a core to every team that make it what it is. The rest of the players are just following their lead.
The only team I am seeing buck the trend is Montreal with JAROSLAV HALAK in goal. Of course if Nolan was coaching, Halak wouldn't have got a chance to play.
I saw an interview with Garth Snow today on Sportnet TV. I actually liked what I heard because I don't think he's let the short term success go to his head. He's focused on building a playoff contentder and doesn't think he's done much until that is accomplished. He sure loves his job and I think he is part of what is right with the new Islanders.
As for Nolan, I always hoped he'd get back into the NHL. But I think he can only last a few years before he self destructs.
Oh Oh, Calgary's been sitting back in the third trying to protect the lead. Canucks have gotten a string of power plays and are back in it. 3-2 Calgary. 3:30 to go in the third.
Kevin T.
Tough loss but Ottawa's playing the best hockey in the conference and it was a 2-1 game entering the third peirod. All they got was a transition goal with ninteen seconds left in the first and a goal where the depth caught up to us with
Quint looking bad against Comrie.
Third peirod and Comrie got a very favorable bounce for the 3-1 goal and really was the game.
Still too much pressure against, too slow and just not enough depth to keep up and a few too many passengers. Dubielewicz kept them in the game.
Blake, Kozlov had good games and Yashin had two primary assists.
Almost over, they have two days to get ready forthe skirts and they really need all four games to have any chance. Not impossible but not likely.
As for the folks looking to kill Yashin and blame him for everything because they don't watch the games:
Yashin had third peirod goal against Rangers, opening goal against Devils, a point against Buffalo and two assists tonight.
You want to blame him and start with ripping him keep that in mind, statistically he showed up.
Thanks IC.
Just read the "After loss, Isles are down and almost out" article. Looks like Nolan is finally saying the right things. He is calling out the team in support of Dubbie. And an extra threat of who is going to be played next year. The right things to say, but several games too late.
It all points back to when DP came back in after the injury. Then when DPs out again it starts the goalie pecking order all over again. I can't help but think that if they DP stayed out, Nolan would have put Dubbie in the next game. Then the Isles may have been able to ride Dubbie into the playoffs.
BTW. Canucks left it too late and lost 3-2. I know why Cherry is on the Canucks bandwagon now. His beloved Maple Leafs may not make it into the playoffs and he knows he'll be in Vancouver next month.
Kevin T.
Yo Kevin T..... this may sound random.... but what the hell is a canuck.... and a nordique? What kind of names are these, english or what...??? Sorry I've always wondered what the hell those names mean. Also I need something to do while I watch the replay of this loss
BLAME NOLAN FOR THIS HORRIBLE DISPLAY OF COACHING AS HE CONTINUED TO RIDE RR AND HILBERT INTO THE POSTSEASON...YASHIN WHO WAS THE ONLY EFFECTIVE OFFENSIVE PRODUCER 2NITE PLAYED LESS THAN HILBERT WHO NEVER SCORES AND WAS PLAYING HURT...GOOD JOB NOLAN...BRING BACK LORNE HENNING
Year End Review (all be it early)
Blake= sign the guy...Do what ever you have to do ...SIGN him
Yashin= Say what you want about him (believe me I have ripped him more then everyone, and of course we would rather have Spezza and Chara back) but he has played hard many times this year before the injury and many times since...Try and do something with his contract and keep him.
Potti= Had a good year
Bergeron= Great pick up...Plays with heart and has a blast
Smyth: You all know I hated the trade...Even more now...BUT he is a very good all around player..MUST SIGN or it will be a publicity nightmare. Although his only good games offensively were vs. Panthers and Capitals...ZERO POINTS vs. Rags, Devils, Ottawa...Isn't that why we gave up 3 #1's ?????
Campoli= shoot him like an old horse with a broken leg!
Martinek~ Gervais= Stay healthy
Park~Hilbert= Keep one of them
Witt~Hill= Love em both..Control anger a litlle, but they were a breath of fresh(although old) air!
Satan-Kozlov= Good years...Although Satan gives up the puck to much in off. zone...bad +/-
Hunter=Sillinger= good years for both...Big Hearts...Just not #1 line guys.
Simon/Asham= Keep em both...Asham must have been playing with a broken bone in hand since he has not been scrapping since the philly fight...Both are needed!
For those that said we had no goal scoring...Uhhh we had 5 ~ 20 plus goal scorers this year (6 if you include Smyth.) Two guys that had career years in goals. We need to be smarter, better coached and stay our of the box...We need to add some depth at Def and stay healthy....Above all it starts at the TOP ... If you all love Wang so much then at least beg him to bring in a hockey guru and STOP being a hands on owner...They do not work in ANY sport...Ask the Cowboys~ Redskins~ Orioles~ etc.
Contrary to some jabronies and a shrinks poor synopsis I am crushed by this team not making the playoffs. I am not a negative person, the writing was just on the wall for all to see...Poor play + crushing schedule + excuse making coach + injuries + bobblehead back office led to this teams demise.....Hopefully the bobbleheads can do what the team did not....PROVE ME WRONG!!!
Don't you just hate the miserable people around here (yes Steady you) who love to get their personal, season ending address in early so they can do it again in a week, they don't want any part of giving this team any chance at all like they want to bury them and have all along.
They are in a huge rush to throw in the towel, they are the biggest quitters of all.
Those kinds of fans we can do without, it's almost like they are getting personal enjoyment out of this, much more than the club winning.
Seems like those kind of fans wrote so many times were going to be awful for so long anything else did not sit right with them and maybe them getting in the playoffs would have made them look bad after a year of complaining, so you bet they are thrilled they can write " I told you so " because that's more important to them than anything else.
Funny how no one is talking about what Jaffe brought up in the the third peirod, Sillinger, Hunter did not step up and score as they did earlier.
For all the talk of no character from Yashin, Kozlov and Satan how come they have been involved in most of the scoring.
I'll do my season ending evaulation when the season is over, whether it be next week, next month or in June when we have the cup.
Funny, isn't it? After using the lame "he was dazed with a mild concussion" excuse when Simon tomahawked Hollweg...the Islanders have spiraled downward and downward...and their goalie gets TWO concussions since then. Karma sucks, don't it Isles fans? As for hating Sean Avery...you're just mad he's not on your team...and you're stuck with useless fluff like Yashin and Satan.
Does anyone seriously believe that CAPTAIN CANADA is going to choose to play out his career in Oniondale NY with this joke of a franchise????
Is it possible for some of you to just TEXT each other and not clog up this space with your conversations with each other? It's like eavesdropping on a personal phone call.
I bet Blake is also eyeing the exit out of Oniondale, too.
Y'all can disagree, but I'll say this to I'm blue in the face--and the evidence is in after the entire month: this team was spent by March 1.
You can say that every team plays the same number of games and gets tired, etc., but this was an older team that relied less and les son four limes and got burned with injuries on defense. If you were at the Coliseum most of this season, you could see how the Isles skating and "buzz" has declined considerably over the past five weeks. Is it because they are gutless snipes with no effort? I don't think so--they are simply spent.
In March, whenever they faced another team that was desperate, the Isles didn't answer the bell. Whether it was the 56 shots against the Rags on March 5, that horrific third period in Montreal, or giving up 40 more shots against the Lightning who seems to be struggling with every other team except for the Canes--we have not consistently competed at the same level as other teams making their own playoff push. DP truly covered up a lot of the problems.
To me, the lesson in the new NHL is that older, slower, and less skilled is not a recipe for playoff success over an 80 PLUS game season.
Am I disappointed by this year? On ice, not really; they gave me far more than I expected. What concerns me most is the foundation for the future--and I don't think we have superior (superior should be distinguished from decent) home-built and inexpensive help. This will likely cost us over the next few seasons.
I want to thank DP once again for ending our season. DiPietro was having a great season and cost us all a chance at watching our team come April and May. Say what you want about split second decision-making, blah blah blah. There is no excuse for a goaltender sliding head first to the blue line to thwart a breakaway opportunity. It was immature, unnecessary and extremely costly. DP needs to grow up and concentrate on being our goaltender for the next 14 years rather than the 3rd defenseman. Thanks for getting us as far as we got and giving it all away when we needed you most.
Zigmund has more than captured the general Steady view throughout the blog. As for the team, I ( and Steady too) certainly agree the results and effort from the past week have been disappointing but perhaps somewhat predictable with the key injuries we've had. That being said, we can't blame injuries for the suspect effort. Campy's plus/ minus figures are right in line with the entire D and the entire team throughout this tailspin. Surely even Steady isn't thick enough to think Campoli's minimal ice time is the cause for slipping out of playoff contention? Although I don't take time to stay up all night or get up early to post, it's discouraging to see Steady's meds still remain unadjusted. The king of doom and gloom, the master of ranting continues to spew from his perch. Perhaps he'll take Zigmund's blog to heart because he is one sick little puppy.
Either Smyth signs and it's Party On! Or he doesn't and everyone takes that as a clear message to get out. I think Blake will wait to see what Smyth does. Hopefully, they can pull it off under the Cap.
By the way, Canadian Sports Press are saying good things about the Isles season. They are putting the late season slide on the injury bug. No mention of Coach/Management mistakes. Except the question of whether DP should have been allowed to play, of course. But that is written off as hinesight.
themass. I think nordique is just French for "from the North". The name Canuck came from you guys. The Americans came up with the name from an Indian translation. The phrase became "Crazy Canuck" in the 1900s.
In the West we liked being called Crazy Canucks because it was taken as compliment to enduring the cold and playing crazy sports like hockey. So we named our team after it. But an Central/Eastern Canadian would probably take it as an insult. So we could stick their noses in it too!
Kevin T.
Scrolled through the blog while enjoyng my Sunday coffee and have concluded Steady is an April Fool. This guy is all over the board.
Just focus on signing Smyth.
lets look to make the neccessary changed needed to be able to do 2 things next year 1)be able to compete against the senators 2)be able to compete against the devils...otherwise, why bother? even if we do squeake into the playoffs this year, we've proven that there is no chance to even get lucky against those 2 teams. I don't think that there's a greater mismatch in the nhl as the isles/senators or isles/devils....it's a disgrace
ps: steady's pretty interesting...keep up the good stuff!!
Can I play next season too?
There is NO WAY that Smyth is gonna play out his career on Long Island . . . I would assume that Captain Canada wants to win the Cup and surely he has figured out by now that his chances of doing so as an Islander are slim and none, and slim has just boarded the LIRR to leave town. Say bye bye to Smyth, and I agree with the post above that Blake will likely follow Smyth's lead.
Funny, but the Isles went
6-1-1 against New Jersey last season.
Do your homework.
Steady is a jerk.
Don't you wish we had these 6 points back:
1. The point we lost in blowing a 3-0 3rd period lead vs. Detroit on Jan. 30.
2. The point we lost in blowing a 2-0 lead (w/2:30 left) vs. St. Louis on March 1.
3. The 4 points we never got in losing 2 games at home to Philadelphia early in the season.
The game Rourke put in the only goal by deflecting in a shot from the point against the Devils, both Flyer home losses and of course the game the replay clearly shows the puck over the line against the Rags to put the game in ot.
Six points at least right there.
Isles win the Florida game with DiPietro and likely even the Montreal game, another four points.
Opening night is one I want back too, hate opening against a doormat like Phoenix on opening night when they play like worldbeaters.
We play that game a month later we likely beat them, most other Atlantic teams got that game later and won handily when the Coyotes were exposed as a poor club.
Thanks Bear...wish there was more to write about...Pretty much said my peace....Unlike IC who will wait until we are mathematically eliminated to re-read whatI wrote so he has some clue what to write in his year end post. Miggsey...PLEASE grow up...Just stop writing to me unless it is about hockey...Are you 4 yrs old or what? You and Zigmund are the same person...a 2 yr old can figure that out...
DP ~ John .... Although I hope you get trounced early in the playoffs..Enjoy...You deserve it...and YES I can admit I am jealous!
Unlce Jr....My son wants to come see you in the hospital...He may have something for you! Lol
Steve Webb ~ your Miggsey!
Campoli = MINUS 11 in past 10 games!!!!
Merrick ~ 3 #1's gone is part of the reason our farm is not stellar!
IC ~
For a guy who HATES posting before the season is over all you have done is re-cap the whole year ??????
God ~ The body isn't even cold yet and your telling us about the opening night....Guess it is ok for you though since you attended around 2 games this year and live in Uniondale!
I was just going to write the same thing "steady!" The guy trashes you and then does the same thing. Looks like you can't win on this blog!
as a GM, Garth Snow makes for a pretty good back up goalie . . . he's gonna look awfully stupid when Captain Canada high tails it out of this NHL backwater that is Oniondale , NY
Happy April Fool's Day to Steady.
In fairness, the Isles have 2 points they should never have gotten:
1. Scoring with 0.7 seconds left vs. NJ to steal one (lost in OT anyway)
2. Coming back from 3-0 down vs. Atlanta to steal another one (also lost in OT).
On the other hand, this franchise which used to live in OT has 12 OT/SO losses. Of those 12 points lost, half would have put us in playoff position
Thank Miggsey...It is my favorite holiday!
