No word is yet available on the condition of Islanders goaltender Rick DiPietro, who collided with Montreal’s Steve Begin while coming out to stop a breakaway just inside the Isles’ blue line last night at 15:41 of the first period. After lying on the ice for several minutes after absorbing a kick to the head from Begin, DiPietro was escorted to the locker room and replaced by backup Mike Dunham.
According to an Islanders spokesman, the club plans to provide an update on DiPietro’s condition after the game. The cautious approach is necessary to provide a complete and accurate diagnosis. There’s no reason to read anything ominous into that because DiPietro left under his own power, showed no sign of any musculature injury and simply appeared to be dazed by the force of the blow.
As soon as the diagnosis is available, I will post it here when I return to the press box from the locker room.

Hope he's ok... and then find out what the heck he was thinking when he came THAT far out!
REF YOU SUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCK!
WHAT A JOKE TONIGHT WAS.
Hope Ricky's OK.
What is wrong with this team and the 3rd period all of a sudden. What a terrible terribe terrible loss tonight. I am disgusted!
WOW I DONT LIKE BLAMING GAMES OR ANYTHING ELSE ON THE REFFS BUT YOU GOTTA B FREAKING KIDDING ME!!!!I'M SICK OF SEEING GAME AFTER GAME THESE BS CALLS GOING AGAINST THE ISLANDERS AND NOTHING BE CALLED AGAINST THE OTHER TEAM!!!DO THE ISLANDERS REALLY PLAY THAT MUCH DIFFERENT THEN THE OTHER TEAM THAT THEY HAVE THAT MANY MORE PEN. CALLED AGAINST THEM!?!?!I DONT THINK SO!!!
I agree ...I rarely will look towards the refs but how does one team get so many PP chances while the other teams gets so few? Now, be consistant - if you're calling everything against the Isles then call against the Habs aswell ...
I hope DiPi is ok obviously ...I also agree that I think that play was a tad reckless ...that being said he's been the team MVP this season and the Isles won't make the playoffs w/o him ...
Gotta hold onto leads though ...they'll never make the post season giving up leads all the time ...frustrating!!
can someone plzzz tell nolan to get robataillle off the top line he's been horrible he gave the puck away all night yash looks ready put him w smyth what is nolan waitin for
WTF IS GOING ON WITH THESE REFS??
every single game we are getting screwed...what a BS call on hunter...
DP: STAY IN THE FRIGGING NET!!
ted: why do we get a lead every game and then back up into a shell?
kozlov, satan, sillinger, zednik were INVISIBLE!!
HOW MANY TIMES IN ONE GAME CAN THE ISLANDERS GET PUCKED OVER!!!THIS SH*T IS CRAZY!!!!!
such crap!!!!!!!
I just got back from the Bell Center, guys we have to make our barn sound like that, you have no idea how crazy and loud the building was, the cats i talked to said its like that everynight, oh and the ice was miked so you could hear what happened on the ice all the way up in the nose bleed section, what an experiance.
That being said, conspiracy theory anyone, we voice our displeasure with the refs and calls go the other way, kinda hard not to put the two toghether.
Oh and on a side note, time to make the Bouncing Souls Ole Ole song the goal song, tired of Gary Glitter.
So I guess we're going to have to live with Dipietros over-aggressiveness for the next 14+ years?! At this rate he'll NEVER make it. Someone please convince Rico its better to stay in the GDMF net!!! Unless he's just not confident enough to do so. I say this because if he was confident he would have let Begin come in on him instead of take such an atrocious risk and possible getting a concussion in the process. JUST STAY IN THE FRIGGIN NET.
what's up with the ref calling a hook on Park when we were shorthanded? the guy grabbed his stick! and then he did it to robby in the third. smyth/blake/robby shifts were too long. witt and hill shifts too long. silly/asham/satan/zednick did they even play? i know a lot of bull crud penalties. i love the keys to their game is always stay out of the box. that's all you hear, "we gotta stay out of the box" you know what, you can't take 10 penalties. i agree the refs were retards tonight, but we have to be more disciplined, and take shorter shifts. when we get in trouble it's usually cause the guys are gassed. we haven't beaten anyone in the last few weeks worth a shite. we're in for some morre games like this.
and if DP is out for a considerable amount of time we're f'd!!!! he such an a-hole sometimes.
Hard to complain since we did get a Penalty shot but some of these calls are ridiculous and don't impact the flow of the game..why was that call on Hunter necessary..happened behind the play to a player who wasn't even involved...
By the way...seems like the isles have to kill off a 5 on 3 every night..is there any way to get a stat on how many times the isles have been down 2 men over the course of the season?
i didn't see the hunter call, but there has to be a reason for being in the box. they're just not that disciplined sometimes.
Ok, BS ref calls, DP stay in net: yes, agree with all which has been said. Now, 3rd periods have been hurting us for the last few months, and I'm thinking more so recently than earlier in the season (no stats on this though...just gut feeling). Does anyone think this has to do with conditioning?? I recall an interview with Yashin before his knee injury, when he was top 10 in the league in scoring. He said his resurgence this season has been due to Teddy Nolan's extra rest schedule. Ted has the guys take days off completely, easy morning skates- and Yashin mentioned how previous coaches had been working the team so (too?) much. Anyone think 3rd period collapses have anything to do with this? I know as a former athlete I could always perform at my top levels over short distances (eg 1st 2 periods), but when I was resting (I too had coaches who believed in much rest) I never had it at the end either (3rd period collapse)...
There have been some comments here about the isles having problems getting calls. Anyone who has watched them all year has clearly seen this. I went on to the NHL site and they have number of power play opps and number of shorthanded times there, by team. Here is a team by team summary - starting with the team with the biggest positive differential (not including yesterday's negative 4 for the NYI)

Hopefully you can read it. The isles have been shorthanded 87 more times than on the powerplay, ranking dead last. That is more than one a game and more than 2 a game different than NJD! The numbers for home and away are equally bad. I thought that it had something to do with the style of play, but similar style teams in my view are not near them. It is amazing that they are still competitive with this difference. The reason, of course, is the isles are great 5 on 5. Here is 5 on 5 goal differential (isles rank 5th):

Think about how many more games they would win if they just had a breakeven on the PP changes versus shorthanded. This is good news for the playoffs, if they get there....
