Chris,

It is great that Newsday is giving much improved coverage to Wrestling in Nassau and Sufolk counties. Thank you.

I am surprised that Newsday has missed the story of Hauppauge's wrestling team.
A few key points of information:

Hauppauge has qualified the most wrestlers ( 15 ) for the section 11 tournament. Hauppauge has great success at the League 4 tournament with 7 first place, 6 second place and two third place wrestlers and 2 forth place wrestlers for a total of 17 All League wrestlers.

There is no other team in either Nassau or Suffolk Counties that has anything approaching this years success. The best part of the story is Hauppauges team is dominated by underclassmen.
The best is yet to come in the future as this team will continue to do well in the upcomming years.

Hauppauge is undefeated in dual meets for the past 2 years. The streak is currently at 40 straight.

Hauppauge has set a new record in Suffolk County with the most dual meet wins in a single season (22-0)

Coach Messina is quickly approaching the 300 career wins. Currently at about 290 and should pass the 300 mark next year.

I am an admitted Hauppauge Super fan. I just believe that its possible that newsday is unaware of what is going on with Hauppauge Wrestling and wanted to share this information with you in the hope that you might find this interesting.

Thank you for writing about Long Island wrestling and keep up the good work.

Fan of Long Island Wrestling

i guess you are a suffolk guy. you have about 6 sentences on nassau wrestling and 30 on suffolk. c'mon guy. how about a little equality. you get into every little aspect of suffolk but barely get into anything beyond wantagh(which does deserve the coverage).

also, what is your wrestling background, if any?

vic, for the record, i did grow up in suffolk, and i wrestled all four years of high school at west islip.

but that certainly has nothing to do with why i focused on suffolk in the recap of this past weekend. the nassau duals are taken seriously by the teams involved and deserve coverage (which we gave to them, by the way), but they do not have any bearing on the county tournament, except maybe a seeding here or there.

meanwhile, the suffolk league tourneys qualify guys for one of the two marquee events of the L.I. wrestling schedule every year (the Section VIII and XI qualifiers).

so i will certainly be following the nassau qualifiers this weekend, but again, suffolk will probably rule coverage because its big event is this weekend. when the nassau tournament rolls around, you can be assured that we'll be there giving the readers what they need.

thanks for reading.

Chris

How can you ignore the division II 215 pounders?? Is it not the chosen division--excuse me!

For all interested in a broader coverage-Anglickas of Southampton-who incidentally never wrestled until 2 years ago-wins the county!!! His opponent from Babylon--Laurio-a worthy opponent!

Schools all interested in this kid from Lithuania!! Only a junior-keep watching!!

It's a shame that the only coverage that you guys decide to write about is Division 1 Wrestling. Not one word guys ? If you ignore a wrestler that lives in a small school district.....he will not just disappear. Very disappointing.

Baldwin Qualifier is still not up @ LIWA-
Didn't make newsday-
They have you reporting or cutting and pasting?

Great Job Chris keep up the great work!

hey can i hear about brentwood they only have one loss and its too the best team in the state
