GRAND PRIX OF TRACK AND FIELD SET TO BEGIN

BY MARCUS HENRY

The Grand Prix of Track & Field, sponsored by Runner’s Edge, First to the Finish, & The Running School, is set to begin on March, 29 at Valley Stream North High School. It is the first of five invitationals designed to bring together Long Island's top athletes in Track and Field.

Divisions:

Distance- 800m, 1600/1500m, 3200/3000m, Steeplechase, 5000m
Sprints- 100m, 200m, 400m
Hurdles- 110/100HH, 400IH
Jumps- Long Jump, Triple Jump, High Jump, Pole Vault
Throws- Shot Put, Discus

Acquiring Points: One event from each division will be contested at each of the five meets. The top ten places in each of these showcased events will be awarded points.

Points will be distributed on the following basis:
1st place = 12 pts.
2nd place = 10 pts.
3rd place = 9 pts.
4th – 10th place = 7 pts. down to 1 pt.

Awards: The male and female athletes with the highest point total in each division after the fifth and final meet will be crowned the Grand Prix Champion for that division, and will be awarded a Grand Prix Championship Trophy. Grand Prix medals will be awarded in each division as well.

Notes: Athletes may compete in multiple divisions. However, points cannot cross divisions. (example- long jump points cannot help you win the sprint crown)

An athlete does NOT need to attend every meet to be eligible. Obviously the more meets an athlete attends the better chance they will have of walking away with the title.

A total of ten championship awards are available to be won. One male and one female from each division.

Championship awards will be handed out at the final meet

The following are dates of the five Grand Prix meets:

VSN Challenge 3/29 @Valley Steam North High School
Paul Limmer Invitational 4/5 @Mepham High School
Blue & White Invitational 5/1 @Oceanside High School
Seahawk Invitational 5/3 @Cold Spring Harbor High School
Bulldog Invitational 5/17 @Hewlett High School**

**This is where all of the awards will be distributed.**
