Taylor McGowan pitched a perfect game (whiffed seven) against East Rockaway to lead the Marauders in the first round of the Bay Shore Invitational Tournament today. And, to lock up a share of the tournament MVP, the sometimes-second baseman went 4-for-4 with four ribbies in the 12-0 win.
"It was exciting to watch her pitch after all the training and work she's put in," said Jim McGowan, her coach and proud father. "As a little kid she used to watch [the tournament], watching players she looked up to. Now for her win the co-MVP, it's really special."
The co-honoree was Liz Weber, who beat Holy Trinity, 11-2, in the final. She gave up two runs and struck out three to get the W. In the two games she went 5-for-8 with seven RBIs and five runs.
