Beyar named Gatorade NY Player of Year

Alaina Beyar of South Side was named the Gatorade New York Player of the Year today. She is a finalist along with the other state winners for the Gatorade National Player of the Year award to be announced in May.
Beyar, a senior foward, had 21 goals and 10 assists to lead South Side (21-0) to its fourth consecutive Class A state title. South Side was the NSCAA's top-ranked team in the nation. Beyar, Newsday's Long Island Player of the Year, was also a NSCAA All-American and High School Scholar All-American.
Beyar always seemed to play her best in the big games. The Boston-College bound Beyar had two assists in a 2-0 state semifinal win over Burnt Hills and had three goals and an assist in a 4-2 win over Pittsford Mendon in the final.
Beyar was selected among 78 players nationally for the NSCAA/Adidas High School All-America Team and she was also selected among 35 players nationally for the NSCAA/Adidas High School Scholar All-America team
Beyar has played for the Long Island Fury the past two summers and participated in the Nike Premier 50 Soccer Camp in July 2006.
