Corona Builds A Champion

If anyone had the background to turn Brentwood fencing into a winner, it was Mike Corona. The sixth-year boys coach is a 1978 Centereach graduate and former county champ in the epee. Older brother John also won a county title in foil.

Corona appreciates the history of Suffolk fencing as much as anyone. And for the first time since the Suffolk fencing championships began in 1964, Brentwood emerged as champion on Saturday. The Indians won two of three disciplines to take the team title.

“This is what every coach dreams of,’’ Corona said. “These kids have been with me since seventh grade. They worked hard for it.’’

Enjoy the dream. Brentwood graduates six of its top nine fencers.
