Empire State Winter Games Are Back

It's that time of year again: Empire State Winter Games. Here's a release detailing the three-day event:

Albany, NY – Lake Placid will host to the 27th Annual Hugh L. Carey Empire States Winter Games Feb. 23 – 25. The Games, which were recently renamed after Governor Carey, who founded the program, have proven to be a favorite weekend destination for throngs of winter sports enthusiasts who travel to the North Country each year to witness the spirited competition and to enjoy the natural beauty of the two-time Olympic village and surrounding area.

Sports to be featured at the 2007 Winter Games include Alpine skiing, biathlon, bobsled, cross-country skiing, figure skating, women’s ice hockey, luge, skeleton, ski orienteering, snowshoe racing, ski jumping, and speed skating. In addition to the competition, there will be a number of free, family-oriented activities throughout the weekend, including Opening Ceremonies on Friday, Feb. 23, followed by the 11th Annual Winterfest – all in the Olympic Arena. Olympic Gold Medalist Tristan Gale (skeleton) will headline the Feb. 23 event.

A full day of competition on Saturday, Feb. 24 will be followed by an evening of family fun, food and fireworks as part of the Saturday Night Chill Out, sponsored by the New York Lottery. The popular musical group, The Refrigerators, will headline the Saturday evening event. A spectacular fireworks display over Mirror Lake will punctuate the evening’s festivities. Lottery drawing emcee Yolanda Vega will host the event and draw names to award prizes including an HD TV, ski passes, Ipod shuffles, and more.
