St. Anthony's on the rise
BY ADAM RONIS
St. Anthony's has taken a step forward in each season under three-year coach Tony Romeo. St. Anthony's reached the NSCHSAA semifinals for the first time in 20 years, but fell short against Holy Trinity, 55-42.
St. Anthony's took a 42-41 lead with five minutes left, but didn't score the remainder of the game. Romeo coached the boys freshmen team at the school before taking over the girls.
The Friars went 8-8 in his first season and lost in the first round and 11-5 last year with a first-round loss. They finished real strong this season, winning 11 of 12 heading into the semifinals, inlcuding a win over Holy Trinity.
"It's a step in the right direction," Romeo said, "but we wanted to win. The future looks good. Our JV team is undefeated. There's a lot of dedication to the program that we didn't see when I got here."
Taylor Flynn returned from a collapsed arch in her right foot and scored 10 of her 12 points in the third quarter. Kristine Best led the team with 14 points and will play at Marist next season.
