Iervolino undergoes surgery
BY ADAM RONIS
St. John the Baptist senior point guard Dani Iervolino had surgery Monday night at Lenox Hill in the city on a broken nose she suffered against St. Michael Academy last week in the CHSAA state semifinals. The bone was put back in place and the septum was straightened to open up her nasal passages.
The doctor told Iervoilino she shouldn't play for three weeks. St. John the Baptist will play the winner of Bergtraum-Rush-Henrietta for the state Federation championship on Sunday March 30. Iervolino negotiated with the doctor to sit until Saturday. She wanted to get clearance to play or she wouldn't do the surgery.
Iervolino helped lead SJB to two consecutive CHSAA state championships. She was integral to the Cougars winning the state championship last season and ending Christ the King's 17-year reign by being able to handle the pressure of Lorin Dixon, who's now at UConn. When Iervolino got hit against St. Michael, she never left the game. She played with the broken nose against Molloy in the final Saturday. The 5-3 Iervolino will play at Northeastern.
