Is Northport Legit?

By Marcus Henry

It's been hard to get Suffolk football fans on Northport's side this season. But the Tigers (5-0) took a huge step toward making believers out of people as they went into Ward Melville last Saturday and came away with an inspiring 41-34 double OT.

Most people will say they haven't played anyone. While it's true, there's no Floyd, Lindenhurst or Longwood on Northport's schedule, "you can only play the teams in front of you", Northport coach Kip Lukralle said.

Northport didn't make the Newsday large school top 10 poll, but it will get an other chance to prove itself in a Friday night home game against Brentwood. A win could vault the Tigers into the poll and add them to the list of contenders.

The way Dan Russo (32 carries, 241 yards 4 TDs) ran the ball, Northport has every reason to think it has a shot agianst Brentwood. Expect a great game on Friday night.

I think that Brentwood will win this one, Northport has not played a good team such as Floyd or Longwood yet.

Northport will prevail on Friday 10/24/2008.
