LIVE BLOG Game 2 Massapequa-MacArthur

BY ADAM RONIS

Live here at Farmingdale State for Game 2 of the Class AA championship series. Massapequa won 10-2 last night and looks for its third straight county title.

John Krause is on the mound for MacArthur and Bryan Edwards goes for Massapequa.

Top 1: Vin Caesar led the game off with a single up the middle for Massapequa, but Krause induced a 4-6-3 double play from Mike Mauri. Krause then struck out Mike Mandarino to end the inning.

Bottom 1: Nick McQuail grounded out to second base to lead off and Alex Angus did the same. Vin Sanquini lined out to right to end the inning. Massapequa 0, MacArthur 0

Top 2: A quick inning for Krause. He gets two quick groundouts and a fly ball to centerfield. He looks excellent so far. He has yet to allow a run in two postseason games. That will be a tough task against a team that has scored at least 10 runs in every playoff game. Massapequa 0, MacArthur 0

Bottom 2: Edwards gets a strikeout to start the inning before Chris Piperno gets the first hit for MacArthur with a line drive to center. MacArthur then hit into some bad luck. Piperno was running on a 3-and-2 pitch and Frankie Vanderka hit a line drive right at Massapequa first baseman Locasio who stepped on first for a double play. Massapequa 0, MacArthur 0

Top 3: Krause starts the inning off by getting two strikeouts looking. Then he induces a grounder to second to retire the side in order. Krause is really fooling hitters with his off-speed stuff. This is really what MacArthur needs. Now, they need some runs. Massapequa 0, MacArthur 0

Bottom 3: Justin Moore led off the inning with a walk. Edwards then induced a foul pop-up on the first base side and got a strikeout for the second out. A perfect hit and run is executed as McQuail singles up the middle sending Moore to third base. Angus hits a line drive to center, but Chris Theoharidies makes a sliding catch to end the inning. Both pitchers are sharp. Massapequa 0, MacArthur 0

Top 4:Two groundouts to start the inning. Then Mike Mandarino doubles down the leftfield line ending a streak of 10 consecutive batters retired by Krause. Locasio follows with a walk. Anthony Abruzzino hits a slow roller up the middle and Angus gets it and steps on second for the force play to end the inning. Massapequa 0, MacArthur 0 0

Bottom 4:Vin Sanquini leads off the inning with an opposite field single to left. Joe Elio tries to lay down a sacrifice, but Edwards scrambles off the mound to make a nice catch for the first out. Then Edwards gets a 6-4-3 double play. Both pitchers are on top of their games and both defenses are crisp. Who will get the big hit? Massapequa 0, MacArthur 0

Top 5: Krause gets a line drive to center for the first out. Greg Muller hits a one-out single to rightfield, but Krause gets a foul pop-up on the first base side. Krause gets a swinging strikeout to end the inning. His breaking pitches are nasty. He really has the Massapequa hitters off-balance. Massapequa 0, MacArthur 0

Bottom 5:Edwards gets a strikeout to start out the inning. He then gets a grounder to second base and a chopper in front of the plate for the final out. Edwards is doing an excellent job as well in what is an excellent pitching duel. Massapequa 0, MacArthur 0

Top 6: Caesar leads off with a walk and Krause gets a 6-4-3 double play, which is huge because Mandarino is up. He lines out to leftfield on the first pitch. Massapequa 0, MacArthur 0

Bottom 6: Edwards gets a strikeout to start the inning. McQuail singles to center with one out. Angus gets hit by a pitch on a 3-and-1 count to put runners at first and second with one out. Edwards gets a grounder to shortstop Caesar who steps on second and throws to first for the double play. Massapequa 0, MacArthur 0

Top 7: Krause induces a grounder to second to start the inning. Abruzzino walks with one out and Drew Bergmann is the pinch runner. Theoharidies chops one in front of the plate and Krause throws it high to first base and down the rightfield line scoring Bergmann and Theoharidies goes all the way to third base. Massapequa lead, 1-0. Muller hits a sacrifice fly to centerfield to score Theoharidies for a 2-0 lead. Massapequa 2, MacArthur
0

Bottom 7: Anthony Rosato is in to close it out for Massapequa. He issues a leadoff walk to Elio and Piperno walks, too. In comes pitcher Ryan Scarisbrick to try and get out of the jam for Massapequa. Vanderka advances the runners to second and third with a 3-4 sac bunt. Moore ground out to third scoring Elio and Piperno just beats the throw to third. Strikeout to win thye game. Massapequa wins, 2-1, for its third consecutive county title.
