According to Maxpreps national high school rankings in baseball St Dominics of Oyster Bay , LI ranks #1 in all of NYS . How does Newsday rank St Dom's # 3 on long island ? Out of 14,200 high schools nationally St Doms ranks 210th . I don't think Island trees or Massapequa are even in the top 500 . How does Newsday get its stats ? Thank you

James: Not to knock Maxpreps, but we get our stats and information from the several dozen of coaches who call us with their results every night and the games we cover. Our rankings are based on game coverages, results, records, etc... Maxpreps is good for general information, but to take their rankings seriously is a stretch, because they don't cover LI sports as thorough as Newsday does. This is no knock on Maxpreps, because they do a great job. But it's always better to go with the local coverage. Local papers are closer to the action than the national media companies.

Thanks for the interest.
Marcus Henry
