nice story on the young man who played at Fordham and with Runyon. Gregg are you still interested in a nice story on the West Islip Baseball team, e.g, 3 D1 scholarship players, 2 empire players etc...if so, if you need any background, let me know if I can assist. If not, be well and I am sure I will run into you during the season.

Hey Wayne. Yeah, I'm sure Adam would be interested in such a story. I'll give him the details and he'll get in touch with the coaching staff and the players. Good luck this year.

Can you tell me how I can write to you?
I just would like to to ask a couple of questions?

Thanks
Kathy

greg- please go back to top ten small school and big school format.

give a little pub to the good players at smaller schools. dont diss them if they are good but their parents chose a small school

thanks

Port Jeff verses Mercy - the 11-1 Royals verses the 10-2 Monarchs team.

Starts Tuesday at Mercy.

this could be a 3 game preview of the class c playoffs!!

Play ball!!

Greg
Are You ready for next year deer park falcons to come out smoking when they play islip the defending long island champions the 1st game of the season deer park has been working hard and i know you saw after that west islip game deer park has turned it around. Get ready Greg the falcons are back on the map

Wow Greg do you see that kid lighting it up for deer park his name is ryan theiss

Port Jeff to face Center Moriches next week in series that could determine League 8 champ/

Hey Greg,
Great story to write about is what St.Johns the Baptist is doing this year after graduating pretty much the whole team and having an undefeated sophmore pitcher and a returning two time empire state player Matt Simone.

ok greg- you gotta know this answer

my boys from Port Jeff stumbled in two one run losses to Center Moriches and now there is a three way first place tie very possible in league 8 . How is this settled/

three champs?,

head to head doesnt work as CM won 2 from PJ who swept 3 from Southold. and Southhold swept 3 from CM. - a real mess!!

Do they go by the wins among the three teams? If so, it would be PJ winning 4 of 6, Southold 3 of 6, CM 2 of 6.

any clue as to what happens?

Thanks!

Greg- Why are you so obsessed with Stroman, oh thats right you coached him and really want to give him all the publicity you can.

Hey how you doing Gregg,
The Playoffs are approaching that means The seasons about to come to a close. Anyone on your mind when you think of the diamond award this year? Notable stand out Tyler Savin of MacArthur the kid keeps dominating with a 8-0 record but hes running with a few tough Massapequa pitchers on his tail.... Whats your thoughts?

Gregg: nice to see you at game 2 of WI/Commack. Hope to see you at the LI Final and/or Vytra Game

It was fun to go out and see some great baseball. And yes, the Port Jeff, Center Moriches and Southold league was very competitive. I believe Port Jeff is the champ. As for the poster about Stroman, his ability speaks for itself. Baseball people recognize his skills, he's already committed to Duke. He leaves for the Junior Olympic and Area Code teams very soon. There were others in Suffolk that had outstanding seasons; Nick Tropeano, Chris Burke, Pat Cantwell, Ryan Pfaeffle and Jake Wechsler. Of course there were others but too many to mention here. In Nassau, there were a ton of good pitchers, Paul Bischoff, Tyler Savin, Mike Mandarino and Larry Ulip. How about the hitting of Pat Chaputian, Chris Rutigliano, Sal Intagliata, James Vena and Gianni Masci. The Island is loaded with great players. The CHSAA was very competitive and I thought Kevin Courtney emerged as a player to watch and Anthony Zarrella crushed the ball in the playoffs. Dan Lackner was all he was hyped to be. Derek Hirsch is making a huge comeback in life and hit the ball real well in the three hole at St. Dom's. I have a lot of thoughts, having sat back and watched more than 50 games this spring. Cograts to all the county champions. The Vytra game rosters will be announced on Friday, June 6. Stay tuned.

well said.

when is the all-long island team announced? is there a second team all long island as well?

There are two teams. The first team will be in Sunday's paper and the second team will run online.

cool...online on sunday as well?

It will be online as well.

and do you have to be in leagues 1 through 5 to get any kind of shot?

I know several good players in leagues 6-8 but few get covered due to school size.

Gregg,
Lets make it right. Tyler Savin, Co- winner of the Diamond Award in Nassau County should be on the 1st Team All Long Island. If Nassau County coaches can't decide between Lembo and Savin, how can sports writer Laura Albanese make that call. Both players deserved this great honor.
Savin wont be remembered as the Diamond Award winner, he will be better known as the only Diamond Award winner not to make the 1st Team All Long Island

Greg,
How does a pitcher who goes 10-0 and his team wins a championship in the very competitive CHSAA and beats St. Dom's twice when they only lost 3 times all year not make 1st team All long Island? We are talking about a sophomore doing well in one of the most competitive leagues in NY. I realize that all the players who made the first team are ALL outstanding, But 10-0 and a championship and he's not 1st team? Why?

You might want to ask the coaches in the CHSAA about a sophomore that didn't win the pitching award in the league. And if you were picking the MVP at St. John the Baptist, I believe it would be the catcher Matt Simone, who is the epitomy of hustle, skill and class. And Anthony Zarrella was the key to the Cougars winning the CHSAA playoff championship, as he was unconscious hitting the ball against St. Dominic in the finals. Sophomore Kevin Courtney had a great season and earned the second team All-LI. He's the first sophomore to make All-LI baseball since we adding the second team four years ago.
And I agree with Barry Silverstein 100 per cent about Tyler Savin and he was added to the first team for All-LI baseball. But in fairness to our reporters, the Nassau County Baseball Coaches Association should be ashamed of themselves for neglecting to tell the media when the awards dinner was being held and who the awards winners were this year. For 20 years, we have been notified and able to automatically put the Diamond Award winners on the first team for All-LI. We righted a wrong and we'll make sure we have the award winners in a timely fashion next year.

Hi Gregg
Any insight into the ability based groupings for 2009 or is it too soon yet? Do you think it will go back to school size?

HI GREGG
WHEN YOU LOOKUP DIAMOND AWARD WINNERS 2008 LEMBO AND SAVIN ARE NOT LISTED
