Report: Florida QB Cameron Newton to transfer
Jeremy Fowler of the Orlando Sentinel is reporting The University of Florida is losing backup quarterback Cameron Newton to transfer.
The 6'5, 240-pound prospect will transfer to a junior college in Texas.
Newton, an Atlanta product, came to Gainesville as part of the 2007 recruiting class. He was a 5-star recruit, according to Rivals.com. Many thought he would be the heir to Tim Tebow's reign over the quarterback position. In fact, I recall people telling me Newton impressed so much at his first spring game, that a few thought he could step in and unseat Tebow...
Newton was arrested in November for allegedly stealing a laptop computer -- he was suspended after the alleged incident. Also, the man who coached him, Dan Mullen, is leaving to coach at Mississippi State.
In addition, Florida had recruited John Brantley in the same class as Newton, and word is Brantley is the hands-down future quarterback for Urban Meyer. That'll most certainly be the case now that Newton is out of the picture.
Expect news from Newton about a year from now, when he will choose another FBS school. I'm sure there will be a long list of suitors.
Miami is losing another player to transfer. This time it's Shawnbrey McNeil, a running back from Dallas Texas. The Dallas Morning News is reporting he will transfer to Southern Methodist and is applying for an immediate transfer, which would wave the requirement that he sits for a year.
Also coming out of Miami, it was announced that the Hurricanes would allow Robert Marve to transfer to an SEC school, just not LSU, Florida or Tennessee. I still say he should pursue a transfer to South Florida.

Per AP story, Marve is not allowed to transfer to a Florida school. So no South Florida, no Central Florida, no Florida International or Florida Atlantic or (you get my point).
