BCS championship game thoughts, Part 1

Florida Gators, Urban Meyer

Keeping up with the Fox love fest of FedEx, I must say, Tim Tebow delivers.

The offensive MVP of the 2009 BCS championship game made clutch play after clutch play. Are we really surprised by now, though?

The junior Florida quarterback finished 18-of-30 for 231 yards and two touchdowns. He added 22 caries for 109 yards. He also overcame two first half interceptions that could have imploded any other quarterback.

Sam Bradford, the Heisman Trophy winner, finished 26-of-41 for 256 yards, with two touchdowns and two picks. Bradford delivered some beautiful throws throughout the game, but the spark of the Oklahoma offense was running back Chris Brown. Brown was the answer to keeping Florida's defense honest. Oklahoma's second quarter drive took six plays and covered just 2:13 on the clock. The key plays were the first three plays of the drive: Chris Brown rushes for 16, 14 and 15. The runs set up a beautiful pass play from Bradford to Quentin Chaney and another to Jermaine Gresham for the touchdown.

It was text book on how success in the running game sets up the pass, especially with an attacking defense like Florida's. Speaking of, Charlie Strong deserves a lot of praise. Many times Oklahoma's offense simply did not have an answer, and the Gator defense was fierce on third down, limiting Oklahoma to 6-of-13 (which was OU averaged for the year, but not impressive when compared to Florida's 12-of-17).

Carlos Dunlap, the game's defensive MVP, was a mess on the offensive line all night. The group kept the heat on Bradford better than anyone else this year.

The MVP on the losing effort's sideline was the Oklahoma defensive line, which showed great speed, pursuit and fight. Gerald McCoy, Frank Alexander, Jeremy Beal and Travis Lewis off the edge gave Tebow a lot of heat and had him on the run. The problem is, Tebow is one of the greatest college football players of all time. Most other quarterbacks wilt under that kind of pressure.

More to follow...

percy harvin is the man

Donvey --

He's undoubtedly the man. I have been a critic of him on here in the past, mainly for the manner in which he carried himself. But he's matured and appears to be a great teammate. He loves being a Florida Gator and has become a mind blowing threat with the ball in his hands.

Thanks for reading.
