Thoughts from the BCS Title Game
1. There's no doubt this is the best team in the country. Georgia doesn't deserve to be in the discussion. They beat up on a weak Hawaii team and didn't even make the SEC title game -- discussion over. As far as Southern Cal, without a doubt the country's second-best team, but should have no business splitting a title. The Trojans didn't have the week-in-and-out tests that LSU had, yet finished with the same number of losses.
2. LSU's defense is better than Ohio State's top-ranked unit. It's the best in the country. Think Malcolm Jenkins, Ohio State's dominant corner, is good? The Tigers have four of him in Jonathan Zenon, Chevis Jackson, Craig Steltz and Curtis Taylor. And we've heard about that front seven all season. And Todd Boeckman wears Glenn Dorsey pajama pants to bed (as seen by my 30-second Photoshop illustration).
3. Anyone else notice Eddie George, part of the Fox broadcast team, on the Ohio State sideline cheering it up in the first half? I did.
4. Both of these teams aren't going anywhere. They've been fixtures in the BCS and will continue to be. Solid coaching, some of the country's best recruiting and tradition both old and new will keep them around. LSU will feature junior Ryan Perrilloux, sophomore Keiland Williams, junior Branden LaFell and a host of other young talent. Ohio State retains Chris Wells, Todd Boeckmen, Ray Small, etc. The lists go on.
5. Ohio State needs to make some adjustments to personnel. That could start with Terrelle Pryor. The 2008 No. 1 recruit in the country could be the future of a new-look offense in Columbus, should he choose to go there (which I still feel he will). When I say personnel adjustments, I don't mean a complete overhaul. If they've made the national title game two years in a row, they're doing something right, but they just need a little extra push to win it all and keep up with the SEC (and soon to be Michigan and surging Illinois).
6. Chris Wells is dominant. That stiff arm he threw on Jackson was violent. As I said earlier in the day, Wells will be the cream of the running back crop next season.
7. The show "Moment of Truth" coming to Fox looks way intense.
