Virginia Tech +2.5 is a gift

By Adam Abramson

First, let me apologize I missed the Heisman.

Couple of things contributed. But my front runner is Dennis Dixon. We still have another month before it gets real intense, though.

Second, I heard from my contact at Texas Tech and he said we had to push back the Michael Crabtree interview back one more week.

Lastly, I'm off work today. I'm headed to the city tonight to watch Virginia Tech-Georgia Tech. A lot of people are calling for the Hokies' offensive coordinator to be relieved of his duties and the loss to BC might have been the straw that broke the camel's back.

I think Bryan Stinespring can save his job if Tech wins out and makes it to the BCS. It's possible, but not probable. Tech's offense has been flawed for years and lacks a lot of zest. The vanilla style has turned off guys like Percy Harvin, who rightly considered Virginia Tech for .020324 seconds, if that.

However, Frank Beamer is insanely loyal. To see him demote or let Stinespring go would shock me.

My opinion? Time for B.S. to go. The offense has been too mediocre for too long -- and it's had some pretty good players come through it.

As for tonight, the two Techs are each missing key players. Georgia Tech is without running backs Tashard Choice and Rashaun Grant and Virginia Tech is without middle linebacker Vince Hall.

Georgia Tech is favored 2.5 and I think that's a gift. Virginia Tech is fired up and the defense will allow maybe 150-200 total yards to Georgia Tech. The Jackets are amazing at stopping the run and will likely bottle up Branden Ore, so it's going to require some of that Tech magic I talked about last week, but I truly think Virginia Tech will win this game.

GT makes its mediocre offensive bones with the backs that aren't playing this week, so I am going to put my money on the Hokies moneyline.

Georgia touchdown celebration against Florida

Oh, and BNG brought up a good point: I didn't talk about Georgia's first TD celebration on Saturday against Florida.

I talked about it on the XM show and sleep depravation made me think I brought it up on the blog.

I loved the celebration. I've been to the Cocktail Party and it's Florida and "also-invited." Even the festivities that surround it are all about Florida. The Bulldogs were tired of being the also-ran team and made their feelings known.

Could it have led to a brawl? Sure and that would have been terrible. But I like to give the guys on the field the benefit of doubt that they're levelheaded enough to play it out.

If this starts happening more, though, the NCAA will have to step in.

It's like a good TD celebration. You can't pull out the Sharpie and sign the football anymore. It's been done.
