2007 Preseason Top 25: No. 22 Florida State

By Adam Abramson

I’ve talked time and time again on this blog about Florida State’s offensive woes and how it blew my mind all last season. Well, Jimbo Fisher’s in the fold now and everyone’s expecting him to fix it right away.

Last year it took about .00246 seconds to realize everything on offense could be traced back to a pretty shoddy offensive line. Will that be a problem this season? Well, it’s looking like three redshirt freshmen will be starting on the OL.

Furthermore, this is the first season I don’t recognize more than one name on the running back depth chart at Florida State. The starter, Antone Smith (former No. 1 prospect out of high school), is very good, but who knows what’s behind him if he goes down? Well, I do: eight total carries last season. I don’t care how you slice that, it’s troubling.

The defense is also young up front, but the secondary will be strong enough to carry the unit through the season. Always trust a Mickey Andrews defense.

All-in-all, it gets real ugly when you look at the schedule. With trips to Clemson, Florida, Boston College, Colorado and Virginia Tech and home dates with Alabama and Miami, there’s not much chance for this team to breathe. It could be a very long season for the Noles or it could be one of the most rewarding seasons in all of college football.

Player I would shred you with on NCAA Football 2008: Greg Carr. Watch the video. There was another one of him in the 2006 Spring Game where he laid out Roger Williams on an INT, but I figured I’d show what he does best: catch TDs.

80s theme song: “Running To Stand Still” – U2 (1987) … I guess you could say this summarized last season. But either way, they should look to that song and say “we don’t need to do that again.”

Save the date: September 3 at Clemson (the season opener will set the tone for the whole year)

25. Boston College; 24. UCLA; 23. Hawaii
