Video: Postgame with Mangini & Favre
Eric Mangini and Brett Favre discuss the Jets' 19-10 loss to the Patriots. The theme of the day seemed to be missed opportunities.

Everybody is focusing too much on the goal line blunder, but if you paid attention, the Jets shot themselves in the foot throughout the game. 6 penalties either kept the Patriot offense on the field, or negated a big gain by Jets receivers. That, and the INT by that Favre guy led to 7.
I can't criticize the playcalling when receivers are dropping passes that hit them in the hands. Look, we're 1-1 and need to get ready for the Charges. Period.
Hey Erik...somebody tell the Jets that cheerleaders/in-game announcers/fireworks/flags/insanity in the parking dno't make the games any more enjoyable of the product on the field is still a piece of junk.
Maybe the Jets need to focus more on actually playing the game, rather than trying to become the WWE of the NFL. What a joke.
Mangini and Tannenbaum MUST be fired. They are always a step behind. They are always out schemed. They are always in the big boys shadow! Favre was a ridiculous pick up and is an OLD gambler. HE will hear the boooo's soon enough. 90% of the pros say Favre was a bad call. What is our future when he is done? Re-build yet again?
Pats LAUGH at the Jets. They came in so confident b/c they knew exactly how to beat us. They knew Mangini would be soft. Always a step behind Belechick.
SAME OLD JETS....FIRE MANGINI !
FIRE MANGINI, are you the same guy who posts as FIRE OMAR on the mets blog? you sound just like him
Same old Favre. Will put up good looking numbers but lose the game in the pinch being a "Gunslinger". Half the time the "Gunslinger" shots himself in the foot! But the press loves him to death so thats all that matters. Now for a week of excuses as to why its not his fault....he hasn't learned the offense, he isn' t comfortable with the receivers, blah blah blah. Any other QB would be vilified for not knowing the offence.....but not a "Gunslinger"!
Erik, one question before I rant a little. Any coaches comments on Drew Coleman's play? I know Welker is good but, he ate Coleman alive yesterday.
It's nice to see how level headed we are as a fan base. WAY too much was put on this game. Brett has been here for 5 weeks... Cassel's been in that system for four years. Except for Ben Graham, you could see on several drives that all the elements are there for the Jets to be successful - a decent pass rush against on offensive line with 3 pro-bowlers (including a D. Barrett sack?!?!), holding the Pats ground game until the D burned out in the 4th, running the ball effectively (except at the goal line), and taking a few deep chances.
the biggest hurdle the Jets face is how quickly they can clear up what seems to be confusion - three ridiculous timeouts in the first half clearly demonstrate that not everyone is on the same page yet. the back to back swing passes - resulting in something like -12 yards - seemed like a "same play" moment. the penalties (specifically 12 men in the huddle on the opening drive) are unforgiveable if they happen all season but, one that can be corrected.
at the outset, we knew the first three games would be tough and it looks like the fourth one won't be any easier (ARI). but after the buy week, the schedule looks good and I expect a MAJOR difference in this team at that time. if we are 2-2 after week 4, i think this team makes the playoffs. patience, my friends.
also, i happened to be in sect 206 on the Cotchery interference and he definitely knocked him down with both hands - none of the replays showed his left hand which was pushing down on the db. not Cotchery's fault as he made the only play he could. that ball was significantly underthrown.
New week
new plan to try to get into the hofstra building
i really hope my source is righg and the lease ends next week
any new info erik?
Erik, Why are they trying to set up the pass with the run?? Shouldnt it be the other way around?
Do we love Thomas Jones that much? Why are they only letting Favre throw more in the second half when we need to come back??
PLEASE ask Mangini why he can not defend the screen/slant pass for his life. Thanks

Dear Erik,
I think you're coming off half-cocked with this issue of the three
consecutive runs from the 2.2 yard line.
Here's why: The NYJs have spent a lot of money on the OL. The NYJs have brought in a specialist OL coach (Callahan) to coach them up as a cohesive unit. Everything the NYJs can get their hands on has been invested in these OLs making the difference in favor of winning over losing...unlike the past few years of 'finesse football'. The most important thing of all, is that the CS has to trust the OL to do their jobs. If the CS doesn't have any confidence that the OL will do their jobs, how will the OL develop the confidence and the grit to actually succeed? The answer is, they won't.
The difference between winning and losing on the line of scrimmage is not just athleticism and strengths -- it's attitude. The Effing Pats expect to win every down. That's simple. If you're going to change their mindset you have to deliver a new reality.
This running straight ahead was serving notice to the OL that we
believe in them. This running straight ahead was asking them what they are made of, and where they are at in their integrative process today.
The answer is: Not there yet. Close is only good in horseshoes.
There are consequences of every coaching move with the players and how they react to the brutal reality of the actual game.
After game 2, where would they be at if they still didn't know they
couldn't block the Pats on the goal line?
They have a damned good idea of what they're not right now, and what they have to do to get there.
The CS' main job was to go all in, see where we're at as a team, and take advantage of what the reality is to get better before next week.
To me, this is the nature of this NFL marathon.
And right now, the Effing Pats are ahead of us on the line of
scrimmage. ...But not a lot.
The Jets waste a 2nd round pick on Nugent, who has been average at best. They then sign a bum the 1-15 dolphins cut, while the Patriots kicker (4th round pick) sails kick offs out of the end zone. That sums up why they Pats are 3 time superbowl champs and why the Jets will never amount to anything.
Erik,
Please tell me we will have punting auditions this week. The whole experiment will Graham has gone down under.
I am sure Cassel said 'same play to Welker' at least 5 times. Maybe nxt time Jets will see it coming..........
Aftera wholeweek of J-E-T-S...Jets, Jets Jets...Nowwe can all Jet out of the delusion. I really do miss Penningtons tight pants.
I happen to agree. MANGINI MUST GO!!!!
