Ran into Kerry Rhodes on the field at Shea about an hour ago. He taped reading the introductions for Fox, who is broadcasting this afternoon's game, and then spent about 30 minutes happily signing autographs for fans. Rhodes signed everything from ticket stubs to baseballs to the teddy bears (no, NOT teddies) given away for Build-a-Bear Workshop Day. He was wearing a black Mets jersey with a No. 25 and "Rhodes" on the back. We talked a little bit about golf because last time I saw Rhodes it was at the Jets charity golf outing at Meadow Brook Club. And he's looking forward to camp.
Slow news day, I know.
And with that, we'll see if the Mets can win their eighth straight.

Instead of golf chat, couldnt you have asked something Jet related? Sorry, but this slow time has gotten me a little thirsty for any Jets info !
Jeez Erik, now even a percentage of our football news has to be about golf?
Oh well, it beats PSLs and Brett Favre.
Scott P. and John Z., I understand your frustration but here's the thing: I don't think every time a football player is out in public he absolutely has to be interviewed. I was there covering the Mets game and Rhodes happened to be on the field enjoying a day "off" before training camp gets going. So I said a quick hello and B.S.'d some. There will be plenty of interviews with him and others down the road, don't worry. Hey, we're at like 12 days and counting. It'll be here soon enough.
Erik's on Phase 3...the first two are meeting and then having a non-chalant chat (next is asking him out on a date). Don't worry, Erik, he's gotta say yes!!
Anyways, its nice to hear that some media personnel have the ability to just focus on something other than their job for a change...it'll get us some insider news later, I'm sure.
Cliff, I'm still laughing at the chipmunks and butterflies comment from the previous entry and then you hit me with this???
Gotta get my haha's in before I leave, y a know, so you don't miss me too much.
Kinda like Darrell with his [/sarcasm]
We've gotta use that...ya know...so that we can be understood.
Cliff, I hope Kerry says yes, those man crush's can be so hard on a reporter. Look at Cimini's blog he has been so distraught ever since Kendall left him for another town and reporter. Everything he writes has a mean tone to it and doesn't post a thing on his blog for weeks. The poor guy is probably sleeping a lot from being kicked to the curb by Kendall. Please Erik take it slow Kerry will come around, we don't want to lose you like Cimini. :)
I guess during this time of season you can only talk so much football.
Less than 2 weeks away to training camp! I can't wait. This will be one the most interesting training camps in a long time!
The qb competiton, who will start opposite Revis, will all the new acquisitions find a chemistry, will the additions on the oline bring Brick and Mangold to new level and give the Jets a top oline, will the rookies make an immediate impact ?
Erik, keep up the good work. What drew me to this blog is that the word got out how passionate you are,and above all, your interaction with your posters. This is how a blog should operate !
Again, keep up the good work. We are looking forward to as much info on how training camp is going as we can get and a great Jets season. Go Jets !
Yeah... that Boland. He's one 'passionate' Jets fan.
JayM, man crush??? ugh.
Scott P., thanks. Training camp and the ensuing season will be interesting - and certainly not dull - if nothing else.
And Darrell, I thank you, as always, for the daily - or semi-daily - dose of humor.
Erik,
During training camp are you going to wear a t-shirt with your name on it, so we drive you nuts in person?
Anybody know Favre's record against AFC East teams?
Mr. Green T, I won't wear a t-shirt with my name during training camp. You'll find I look suspiciously like the blog picture, for better or worse. I fully expect some of you attending to say hello.
As for your other question, I might try to dig that up tomorrow. I have nothing else to do.
Anyone have some ideas for Italy? I know it's not Cleveland, but its the best I could do.
We'll call it my pre-training camp excursion, I'll make sure I stay in touch with a dose of sarcasm...especially to check up on the Rhodes-Boland love affair.
Well the circus has started at Green Bat before camp even opens. Thompson better trade him before camp opens or this spelld disaster.
Mr Green T, I know he is 1-3 vs the Jets. The one win coming in 1994.
Mr. Green T, Ira is right, Favre is 1-3 against the Jets in his career. His overall record against the AFC East is 9-10. That includes the SB victory over New England.
Cliff, suggestion for Italy: don't hurry back. Kidding. Have a good trip and you better check in here periodically. When is this trip happening anyway?
Excellent article on TJB about Joe Namath. He is the JETS!
