Hofstra grad makes good at Flight Crew tryouts

Ladies and gentlemen, your 2008 Flight Crew. Well, almost. Twenty-one of the 22 that will make up the team – the final member will be voted on by fans on newyorkjets.com starting tonight – were selected after the panel of judges disappeared for a little over an hour to tabulate votes. That waiting period Hofstra student Bianca Lupo said, made her feel “nauseous.”

Lupo [pictured above] felt much better when the judges returned, though not right away. To draw out the tension, Flight Crew director Denise Garvey read the names one by one and Lupo, a Long Island native (Baldwin) was one of the last six named.

“I saw a whole line of people [already called] and was really nervous,” Lupo said. “I just wanted to know the result at that point.”

Thanks again to Al Pereira, the Jets team photographer and a good sport all morning and afternoon, who has a complete photo gallery on newyorkjets.com. But back to Lupo, who just received her degree from Hofstra in exercise physiology. I thought she had an interesting first name, Bianca, and asked her to spell it for me to make sure I had it right.

She spelled it, then told me, “It means ‘white wolf’ in Italian. A little fun fact.”

Indeed.

Tomorrow is a golf day as I'll be playing in the Commerce Bank Championship Media Day at Eisenhower Park and the timing could not be better because I really need to unwind after today. The Jets have a charity golf outing Tuesday and with players and coaches involved, there should be some tidbits to be had there. And remember, minicamp starts this Thursday with Vernon Gholston arriving Friday.

Thanks for the local angle, Erik ... You are on top of everything.

Boland, Boland, Boland....thank you, thank you, thank you

Erik real tough life you have, judging cheerleaders one day the next day playing golf. Life is good.

Roger, the whole day, really, was about you.

JayM, it's cliche, but this beats working.

who cares?

white wolf...very nice.

I'm guessing Erik is a 20 handicap golfer....(insert inappropriate joke about finding the hole here).

Hey, Erik! I'm heading out of town for a short vacation to...

...you guessed it! The Cleveland area!

Can you believe it?? LOL!! My kids heard about Cedar Point and they want to hit the coasters. I'm also thinking of visiting the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Any other suggestions?

Thanks for the continuing the Jets coverage. It seems like you're having fun letting us have some fun. I'll be looking forward to the mini camp news.

Sadly, these last few days on the jets blog with postings on the flight girls and all will probably be the highlight of a medicore 7-9 jets 2008.
