A blog about nothing

Well, perhaps a little something, but admittedly not much and arguably not enough to interrupt the discussion going on in the comments section of the previous post. So anyway, here at Shea, as I’m assisting – or detracting from – Newsday’s Mets coverage today, there’s some Jets news. Not “news” in that sense, though. Jets Night, originally scheduled for April 28 at Shea but rained out, has been rescheduled for July 8, both the Jets and Mets organizations announced earlier today. Fans with tickets from that April 28 game who want to go to the July 8 contest need to go to Mets.com and follow the standard rain-check ticket exchange policy.

Among the former Jets planning to attend the evening are Joe Klecko, Wesley Walker, Greg Buttle, Emerson Boozer, Randy Beverly and John Schmitt. Those players, and others, will appear at a 5:30 p.m. fundraiser in Shea’s picnic area.

Also, as I previously mentioned in the comments section of that earlier post, the Jets begin OTAs this week. We’ll have reports on Thursday, when the media is given player access, from Hofstra. Ok, Rich, Mike, Darrell, Cliff, Big A, Jay, et al., have at it again. And to Dknyj…Baker-Gate? Quality sarcasm.

Ok, Erik.........but does this mean there will be No posts till Thursday? waa Waaaa WAAAA!! jk

your doin great Erik. your the best out compared to the rest of the bloggers. keep it up man. do you think ainge will be good competition for the 2 slot.

Mike, just for you, maybe there'll be something before Thursday.

As for the Ainge questioner, thanks. Honestly, I'd be surprised if Ainge beat out the loser of the Pennington/Clemens starter competition to become the second guy. That said, Ainge has a certain confidence about him that leads you to believe he knows something about his ability that the people who passed on him in the draft don't. He was a good low-risk, high-reward pick.

I truly hope that there's going to be a real competition between Pennington and Clemens this summer...I hope it's not just being called a competition with the intention of handing the job to Clemens. Head to head, Clemens can't and won't win the job from Chad, who in the end gives us the best chance to win.

I may be the last Chad fan standing, but any success we've experienced in recent memory has come with Chad as our QB. The guy is tough, smart, and knows how to win.

Oh yeah...and Ainge will be the #3 at best this season.

Erik, keep up the great work!

It's Monday, Boland! Another week of misery getting yelled at by rabid Jets fans who don't take kindly to your dawg-pound losers. : P

Hey, Erik, is therte any truth to the rumor that the Jets are considering updating their uniforms with (possibly) a third color? God, I hope not. The Jets have the best unis in the league. Far better than a certain team from Ohio that can't figure out whether their color is brown or orange. By the way, Boland, you know why the Jets colors are Green-n-White?

Darrell, I'll ignore your Browns-baiting once again and actually the experience here hasn't been filled with misery, your efforts to the contrary. (humor).

Anyway, there is nothing to the rumor about a third color being added to the Jets uniforms (I actually checked for you if you can believe it). As for the green and white, I know the myth has always been that Leon Hess made the uniforms that color for his line of gas stations.

From the NY Times in 1963, for what it's worth: "New York is a green-conscious town, from the dividing stripe down Fifth Avenue to the verdant hills and dales of Westchester to the beautifully landscaped parks of Long Island,” said Ted Deglin, a club spokesman. “Through the ages, green had always signified hope, freshness and high spirits.”

Long ago, I heard it was because Leon Hess' birthday was on St. Patrick's Day.

We weren't that environmentally conscious in 1963...

Green's the color of money and as long as it wasn't blue...it worked.

That's right, Capt. Rich. A group of businessmen, led by Sonny Werblin bought the New York Titans, and changed the name to the Jets. The colors were changed to Green-n-White because, as Sonny himself liked to say, "Green's the color of money."

Besides, anybody ever seen the "Brownie" character the Browns used to have? Even back in 'the day' you musta looked a little light-in-the-loafers if you went around sporting that little dude on your unis. : P

Darrell, Darrell, Darrell...when did this turn into a uniform-comparison contest? Makes me want to start a Takeo Spikes rumor or something.

I guess I've gotta make an appearance...so, uh, free Tibet.

Hey, Boland, I'm just keepin' it interesting. ; ) So what's that you say, Takeo Spikes was seen at Hofstra, with a big green playbook in hand?

Cliff, well done. And Darrell, just asking if I should start that rumor. No such sight as you described has been seen. Would be interesting though...

Go ahead, Erik. That's how Cimini gets asked to go on all those SNY shows. He just makes crap up. Say, I heard Coles is thinking of retiring. Says he doesn't want any part of Mangini's "crueler than hell" (his words, not mine) training camp.

One man's "interesting" is another man's slog from Bataan to the internment camp...
