Things are pretty quiet for the Jets, but we are on the verge of a major transaction ... at least as far as I'm concerned.
After this weekend I'll no longer be covering the Jets for Newsday. I've been assigned to cover the Giants, a move some will see as a promotion and others a devestating blow to my career depending on your rooting interests. In truth, it's just a little sideways juke. Erik Boland will take over here while I move on to bluer pastures. My hope is to make the transition as easy for him as it was made for me a few years ago when Berger graciously handed the reins to your truly. Of course, for his efforts he was rewarded with covering the Knicks fiasco, so karma isn't always fair.
We've known about the move for a number of weeks now, but like the scientists who first spot the asteroid headed directly at Earth I figured it was better to keep the news from the public until the last possible moment to avoid panic, rioting and chaos. Go about your lives as normal, citizens!
Anyway, I'll pick up the Giants blog later this week and keep you up to date on Jets happenings for the next few days.
And I still can't believe I was outlasted around here by Dewayne Robertson.

Tom, we miss you already. Thanks for the great work over the past few years. After you and Berger, he's going to have a tough act to follow, but I am looking forward to his work as well! Thanks again and congrats on the new roles to the both of you!
Looking forward to the name changing contest!!
Tom, you traitor! Going over to cover the Giants is a clear betrayal, on a par with Victor Hobson signing for the Patriots*...
Seriously though....best of luck on your new beat. I have enjoyed your coverage which was always well-written and balanced. I hope Erik Boland can live up to the lofty challenge of picking up the Jets beat.
All the best over 'there' in the land of the Giants, Tom.
Good luck Tom. I really enjoyed your sense of humor. But I'm afraid I will only be reading your work when the Jets play the Giants.
you are dead to me.
Ah, one of the perils of being a journalist. I remember it well. "Wait, no way, I can't cover *insert team/sport/beat here*. Oh yeah, wait a minute, I'm supposed to be a writer in this regard, not a fan.
SUCKS. Ha ha.
Tom, congrats on covering the Super Bowl Champions. Looks great for the career my man.
Best of luck to you, Tom. Can you take Tangini with you?
AHhh, Thank god! He can't possibly be worse than you, so thank you very much for not being a Jets beat writer any more.
Good offseason so far.
Good luck Rock.
TR, congrats and good luck to you! Thanks for all the info you've passed along. I've enjoyed reading your posts.
If some one had asked me "do you think we could possibly sign Faneca, Jenkins and Pace, then go and bring in a new Right Tackle (who excelled at the job in Detroit, albeit for just 5 weeks but 5 weeks that made an impression on any one who saw it happen), a blocking Tight End, last year's probowl Full Back who is another monster run blocker, an excellent back up runing back to split time with Jones and on top of it re-sign our own star Safety plus apease our lone complainer in Coles by guaranteeing his remaining contract", I would say: IMPOSSIBLE! And I would say such a pre draft signing activity would be the best that one could possibly wish for. Not enough credit is being given to Tangini for doing this. How could any one wish for more?!
Thanks for all the news updates, Tom. It should be fun covering a team that probably won't make the playoffs after winning the Supe.
good riddance
