Jets draft crew to meet the press Thursday

It is a news conference not likely to produce much news, but Thursday afternoon General Manager Mike Tannenbaum, Director of College Scouting Joey Clinkscales and Director of Player Personnel Terry Bradway will meet with the media to discuss the upcoming draft.

So put yourself in the room; what do you want to hear from these guys?

As you know NFL teams are as forthcoming with their draft plans as coaches are during the season with their weekly game plans, so “Mike, who’re you gonna take?” probably won’t get answered. Nor should it. There would be no fun in that anyway.

Maybe, though still not likely, a clue or two will emerge as to which direction the Jets are leaning. At last year’s pre-draft presser, Tannenbaum, covering pretty much all bases, said, “We want to have as much flexibility as possible to take advantage of opportunities in the draft. Maybe trade up, trade back, see what opportunities present themselves.”

The opportunities turned out to be Darrelle Revis and David Harris after Tannenbaum executed a pair of Day 1 trades that left the Jets, who started the draft with six picks, with four picks overall. Revis and Harris, obviously, were worth it.

So on Thursday expect the Jets trio to talk mostly in general terms about the depth - or lack of depth - at certain positions in the draft, what needs the Jets feel they have to address, and add a few comments about some of the players [Gholston, McFadden, McKelvin, etc.] they’ve worked out and interviewed. Again, no news typically comes out of these things but the comments are always worth glancing back at when the draft is over.

All i want to hear from Wrongway is "bye, i'm leaving."

Denver cut a DT on the 14th. Antwon Burton. Maybe clearing space for a D-Rob trade? Any news on this front, Erik?

Why don't the Jets trade for Chad Johnson? They are going to have to pay a ton for a 6 pick anyway. Why not get a sure thing?

Darrell,
This deal has been "close" for nearly a week now but there's still draft pick compensation and $ issues there. Maybe more tomorrow...

hey whatevr the jets do they do. u know? they have been great the past two years and i no this yr watever the decision is, it will be well thought and the best decision. whether tht means gholston, mcfaddy, long mcklevin or drafting down, they will make the best decision based on research.

Boland, just a little advice to heat up the offseason. Why don't you produce some provocative pictures of one or all of the Jets Flight Crew.

Anyway, throwing away a pick for Chad Johnson is ridiculous. This guy is not a team player, regardless of what he says. We need guys who are going to lift the rest of the team, not create a media circus.

Anyway, take 2. Going back to something I posted earlier this week. The Glenn Dorsey pick at #6 should make sense to people if they consider that Richard Seymour was a DT out of Georgia that went #6 to the Patriots in 2001. Guess what position he plays now?

I would ask Mike T. if he has enough $$ left to trade up and grab a player the Jets would want that wouldn't be around at No. 6.

Of course my opinion is that they should be trading down and grabbing value guys to fill holes/add depth and not losing picks to grab one big name player, but the question might reveal a bit about their trade down strategy.

I would also ask if there is room on a team for McFadden when you have money tied into a Thomas Jones?
