By the time you wake up on Friday...

Jonathan Vilma will likely be a Saint. According to two sources, the Jets are close to dealing the one-time future and soul of their defense to New Orleans. It's not clear right now what the Jets will get in exchange, but it'll probably be something close to a third-round draft pick. According to the people to whom I've spoken, the fineprint on the deal is being hammered out and it could be announced either later tonight or early Friday.

UPDATE: According to a league source, the Jets will receive a conditional draft pick from the Saints based on Vilma's production, likely for the 2009 draft.

Vilma for a 3rd round pick??? Saints got a steal!

The Jets are a clueless organization why would they give away a bonifide proven star because he doesn't fit in the 3-4 scheme which was a proven failure last season one the brightest stars from Miami ,without a police blotter, and they give him away for next to nothing. I'm finished with the Jets it won't be long before they're the NFL Knicks

Justice,
They are. The exception is that the two-headed golden-good-ol'-boys are getting a pass by the MSM. Rock has made his points and not yet been "frozen" out. So far, everyone has seen the blunders of these neophytes. They FAILED on Kendall--Foolish ego and pride. They FAILED to play to their players' strengths. They FAILED to bring in complementary players to build upon what they had (TB's players went to the playoffs EM's 1st year). The FAILS will continue until Woody finds another tax shelter to burry LOSSES. WE JETS FANS ARE LOYAL TO OUR OWN DEMISE.

JFL

The Jets are guilty of mismanagement all over the place. Picking up where Steady left off..

They wait until the players that don't fit in their new schemes are worthless to them and then try to deal them out of a position of weakness. Very stupid! Where's the "genius" in that?

Anybody else wonder why the Jets OLine and DLine sucked for 2 years? Can you say coaching? Do you think these players can't play or is more that these coaches are coaching them to fit a scheme that they are ill equipped to play in?

They are boneheaded in player management with their it's "our way or the highway" mentality, stressing on player character over talent, and insisting on flexibility to play various positions. How many times do we see other teams having schemes that play to their best player's strengths with success? Trying to become NE is useless unless you have a TB and an OLine that gives weeks to throw the football.
